From what I learned in Media Law, it’s mostly to protect people from vigilante justice and the like. Chances are that there’s some crazy guy out there that’s more than capable of killing her in cold blood saying she deserves it, thus denying the wheels of justice from doing its job.

A lovely thought, but sadly overly optimistic. Anyone that even considers cheating on someone has no sense of shame or regret. She’s not sorry that she was cheating, she’s just sorry that she got found out. Chances are, she’ll find some other poor bastard to string along, with the only difference being either she’ll “be more careful” or that she’ll “find someone too stupid to suspect anything.”
