Very true on the office politics. It is frame related. I had lost sight of that. It’s not different from other parts of life.

Still lifting four times a week. Discipline and habit have led the way during my cut. I’m getting close to where I want to be before bulking again. Work wise… I’ve been at a new spot for five months in the field I wanted. I’m rounding out skills I want but also keeping a pulse on when to leave for other opportunities. Yeah, I have allies, but likely no one gives a shit about me except me, there and likely anywhere else. Maybe that’s a false narrative, but I’m still figuring out how to navigate. …

You're getting really consistent advice here. If you're not getting riled up by this joke, that's good ... so why are you looking for reasons to get riled up about it when you don't need to? You're overthinking and overcomplicating the matter. The point here is don't get upset just because you think the RP way is for you to huff and puff and get upset. That's a trap.

You keep saying you're not bothered by the joke and instead are asking if you "should" find it disrespectful or if you "should" be saying something or if you "shouldn't" accept her joke. Sounds like you're willing to discard your own judgment and view for those of random internet strangers who may be more lost than you and have zero interest in your life. How is that having frame?

There's a lot of reacting instead of acting here, some petty tit for tat. Sounds like scoreboarding and overcompensating on your end. Like you know you've been fucking up for a long time, you started to make some positive changes and now expect your wife to be submissive. Covert contract city. If you say you're going to do something, and you don't, and your wife reacts to that negatively, why should she apologize and submit? Have you established yourself as the type of person who keeps his word,…

I'm going to go in to it with my own frame, obviously, and not not play the game. I was confused by this section. This "social" part sounds like it's about your wife and how you expect to react to her this weekend? I get that her bevahior bothers you... but practically speaking how are you going to not play the game? Are you going Rambo here? Only you know for sure. I have realised that I have another addiction in the form of information. Reading is good. But it can become a crutch or an excuse.…

Good shit here. This post is like a cheat code. Early on I used to write out the sidebar books I've read in part so people could see "where I'm at" in terms of advice to give. Which is retarded and entitled. And that's what's being pointed out here... who are you writing for and for what purpose? I'm still reading, but if the book is not relevant to what I'm musing about in my OYS, I won't mention it. It's not about checking boxes. I like this. I remember when guys would put their wives' ages in…

Nice, for sure. I've been thinking about this myself recently. I like getting a sense of how conflict is managed, how bad news is shared, how clients are handled. Like you hinted at, everyone can point to successes, but I get curious about dynamics when shit hits the fan. Communication, ownership of failures and learning from that for next time, those are biggies. I've also been thinking about how leadership comes into play here, setting the tone for your team.

I haven’t read any red pill material in months ... LOL. I can relate to this paragraph. Humans like to find patterns, right? It's useful until it's not. At some point you test it out without input from here. It's your own life experiment. I still catch myself getting in my head about stuff and even analyzing when to initiate... This and the rest of this paragraph... What do you want? Are you doing what you want in the moment? What's making you feel like you are leaving things untapped? Are you…

I’ve been gaining a lot of clarity and breaking down things into a three-step process that is sequential but also circular: 1) taking stock of where I want to go; 2) examining my own behaviors to discard what won’t get me there and identify what will; and 3) tackling the fear, developing the confidence that it is actually possible for me to get there, and taking the nec…

It’s been a mind fuck for me. I don’t know why, but I started lashing out at this space. And I’ve been lashing out at myself. I went to a Zen center this past week. For now, I'm just following the program. It adjusts every week based on your actuals, so if you hit 5 reps above what it expect you to, then it increases your max by x% the following week. It's been helpful to me because it pushes me beyond the 531 protocol did. With 531BBB I'd be like OK cool I'm done with this percentage. But with the SBS program I've been pushing harder and harder, exploring my own limits. Definitely recommend the SBS templates.

Glad you tried out the hook grip. For me, it got better. I use it all the time now, even around 2x bodyweight without straps or chalk. I got that grip tip here, so happy to pay it forward. What I like most about this place are the actionable tips rather than the masturbatory ones.

Had some issues with grip strength, especially for DL. Are you doing the double over hand grip? I switched to the hook grip when grip strength started becoming a factor. The hook grip hurts in the beginning, but you get used to it. Well worth it.

Good point about the goal posts. For me, that was a big trap, having certain expectations of what the ultimate result would be, of what the point of practicing was. In MRP terms, I can see how there was some nice guy thinking that colored my expectations with meditation. If I practice, then eventually I'll end my suffering. I literally expected something to click and I'd forever feel great. But that's not how it works. There are some cool phenomenological things that can happen in meditation. I'…

If I could Rule 9 you I would. My dude. What I see as a problem here is that you don't love yourself. If you don't love yourself, why should anyone else? Assuming your stats are true, when you do RDL at 365X6 when you're 180 lbs, your problem is you're an idiot mentally or emotionally. Are you literally autistic? It's OK if you are. I may be. But fucking own it. I had to let all that shit go. It is the cost I have to pay for being a drunk captain Um, no? Why are you putting yourself as a victim?…

OYS #37 30s, 5’10”, 162 lbs Lifting: Lifted four times, doing SBS hypertrophy. I'm liking the AMRAP set at the hypertrophy range, where the weights are higher than they were in my BBB portion of 531. The squat AMRAP has been reminding me of how important the mental aspect is to lifting. I cranked out 20 reps at around 70% of my last tested 1rm and I could’ve kept going. lol /u/Blarg_Risen I'm predicting there's going to be a hell of a think-fest for Poncho in the near future. Nice, at least I LOL'ed at that. Lastly, why do "you" think I keep using quotes when I refer to "you." I was doing a Vipashyana meditation today. That informs this comment. From my end there is no “me.” Or “you.” “I” am “awareness.” For me, the initial assumption was that I am coming from a center somewhere in my head. OYS #36 30s, 5’10”, 162 lbs. Lifting: Switched from 531 BBB to SBS Hypertrophy. It’s a lot more volume. I really like the build up to overwarm singles (RPE8 or ~90% of TM) before dropping to the hypertrophy range. This is the first time I’ve used variations like paused squats, incline bench, spoto bench, etc. I’m pushing myself more now than I was. Boring but big was truly boring. This has been timely for me, so thanks. I'm still molding my mission, but I'm seeing the process has put into focus what's important, what's necessary, what's tangential. I've been seeing women and shit tests through that tangential prism. Calibration seems important, though. It's simple to be like fuck this, this woman is a tangent. But, depending on the objective, simple is not always the best move. You don't need to drop a nuke to annex Crimea. This seems related to the bitches management con…

It all goes beyond women, though, or even others. That's all in Buddhism. I can’t tell what Buddhist tradition you've practiced ... But part of the Eightfold Noble Path is sub-labelled as "Action." Buddhism requires continuous action, not “navel gazing.” What's important in the giving is the intent. What am I giving to someone? Am I getting something out of giving that? Am I giving for some self-congratulatory or self-aggrandizing purpose?

Because you're aware that: Nothing that she is capable of giving me in return could compare with the joy I can get through the act of giving. Man, that second edit was deep. Thanks Horns. I appreciate the poke. Right now I'm OK with not knowing exactly what I want. It's unclear if you actually get to know exactly what you want ... I wonder if the end goal is more of a fluid thing where you're OK with the fluidity. So more like a mindset where you have a good sense of where you're going but you're OK with riding the wave of life and accepting inputs and adjusting course as necessary. Hah. Awesome link. Thanks. I appreciate your views on all this. What I like most is how you don't sugarcoat. Being with multiple women is not a holy grail. I wouldn't stop guys here from getting another. This is all a very personal path. But I'm not even sure this is for me long term. I'm open about it. That's a fair comment. I remember Rollo's definition of "plate" being broader than I imagined. It sounded like a "potential" was considered a plate. Actually fucking is more clear cut than that nebulosity. So this other woman who is not the LTR/girlfriend/whatever... I texted her yesterday in the early afternoon to meet up. That same night we were fucking at my place. That's a plate in my book.

100% helps. Reading how you lay out your experience has been helpful to me. For me, saying I have a plate means I am sure I can hit her up and bang in the next few days. But it's a process to get there. There's vetting on my end. I'm going to push boundaries with the "plate" and see what happens.

I’m accepting that I’m pushing on that deadlift TM purely out of ego. The weights matter but at the same time they don’t. It’s easy to miss the nuance. I’m still on a cut. That is a dense post. Thanks. A lot to unpack from there. I like your point of avoiding the lead the wife BS. There's no homogeneous MRP way. Different people are in different circumstances and have different objectives. It's refreshing seeing a break from the mold. And that's not a dig to MRP. Thanks man. This got me thinking. Part of it has been some domestication viewpoint. These are good questions, so thank you. I see them as all interrelated. I live comfortably. There's predictability and flexibility. I could continue this way for a long time and not lack things. I could continue traveling and enjoying hobbies. Provide for my child, a steadier childhood than I had. At one point all that may have been enough. Man, thanks for sharing that, it's helpful. It does seem like undeveloped territory. I haven't been able to find much on this on MRP. I've also been avoiding the "saying it like it is." That's not my job. For me it's finding that line and what I'm comfortable with. It's individual. I haven't lied; so far definitely not worth it. Lying about it disturbs me somehow, at least right now. Pussy isn't that magical. Trying to postpone the topic makes sense to me, though. I'll keep that in mind.

Yeah, I'm not owning it. I haven't directly lied about it or denied it, but it may be lying through omission and hiding behind technicalities or nebulosity after a separation, all of which I could squash right now if I wanted to voluntarily. I haven't squashed that because I've been half in half out. A part of me doesn't care, but another feels terrible about it. OYS #31 I’ve been trying to figure out why I’m still here. That’s why I skipped last week. I haven’t looked at any MRP content in the meantime. It was a two-week experiment of seeing what I’d do on my own. What’s come up is really a lot of questions only I can answer. Thanks man. The killing of the ego, to me, is a metaphor. The ego is a construct, a delusion. It's an interpretation of thoughts and what is experienced though the traditional senses. I don't think you can "kill" it. You need a sense of a separate self to survive in physical reality. It serves some purpose. The "killing" part, I think, is directed to negative feelings and the desire to end that, which is associated with suffering and comes from this is "me" or that is "mine." I'm avoiding a rabb…

Having additional opportunities that may allow you to affect your wife's feelings and get her to have sex with you ... that's a factor influencing your career decisions? Right, Chuck's examples are great. They also show that it's not a black and white rule of "never" say it: the last example is one where an apology is necessary. I read the "intent" comment from u/PutABabyInThat differently. What if his intent had a Machiavellian bent? How is that lone wolf-ish? The lone wolf you describe STFU to an autistic level and can't navigate social interactions, so I agree with you it's best not to stay there. I also agree with cutting out the nice-guy apologizing and saying things like "I'm sorry, but I don't understand..." That's lack of assertiveness. But if you're not afraid of the word sorry because you're your own judge and when you say it you do so within your frame, I'm not seeing how that's lone wolf-ish.

I agree, discipline is key. It was unexpected because lifting is an automatic thing I do, like it's a given. I'm troubleshooting to see if it was related to recovery. I may not be eating enough and may need to temper the intensity with the martial arts as I acclimate.

Following up on /u/ProtoWorm's comment... This reminds of a J10 comment that I think is worth reading to see if it's applicable to your circumstance. Here's the gist: "You are absolutely entitled to withdraw your attention, but there are countless ways you can do so, over time, with much less confrontation and damage done to your marriage in the process. The classic method is not explicitly withdrawing your attention in direct response to undesirable behavior, but gradually adding activities to …

Did you at all try to just STFU? "Getting caught" in what you describe as a meaningless argument for 20+ minutes (with seemingly plenty of DEERing on your end) is unattractive. How is that less "wimpy" or unattractive than fogging? STFU is fundamental. It helps make sure that you haven't lost your composure. If you're not sufficiently composed, you're likely going to be reacting/DEERing instead of using fogging, negative inquiry, etc. Why do you think you cared so much that she recognize that yo…

You can tell a guy's wife really got to him when there's a play-by-play of events in the OYS that even includes timestamps. Next day her sister comes to visit, mom tells her about the belt. Sister barges into my room, swears me up and down for being a fucking dick, an abusive, manipulative piece of shit. Wife is embarrassed. I respond with "thanks for your opinion." Her judgement doesn't matter to me. If you really don't care about her sister's opinion, then why is this even in your OYS?

Thanks for sharing this. It was really refreshing to read for me. I started my musical venture with the bass. I got much better at the guitar later in life but playing the bass is so key, and difficult. You really are the prize as the bassist. That's true abundance in music. It's so much fun to be a good bass player. When I was really young I wanted to play reggae bass but it was freaking hard.

Fun and satisfaction more along the lines of entertainment, enjoying the process, and the benefits outbalancing the sacrifices. It's unclear what the journey is like other than "you'll feel lost for 6-12 months but just keep coming multiple times a week and things will click eventually." That's a good point on the zero-sum game. It sounds fucked up but it's not uncommon. That reminded me of how in my younger days I was on the other side of the coin; I was fine with that woman being more successful than me, but not by much. That was all based on insecurities and comparing myself to others to determine my self-worth. It's possible to overcome that zero-sum game mentality but not everyone is willing to do it.

That’s a good/complex question. It does play a role still but I don’t see meditation as a panacea anymore. Buddhism still impacts how I view the world/reality. I think impermanence is very real. OYS #5 30s, 5’10”, 163 lbs Lifts/nutrition: SQ 240, OHP 120, BP 195, DL 255. Doing GZCLP four days a week. Finished the fourth week of tracking calories/macros and weighing food. In that time I lost 7-8 pounds (which was faster than I originally aimed for) while my lifts went up. I’m going to keep dropping to 160 and reassess. Reading: Re-reading WISNIFG. Previously read NMMNG, MMSLP, MAP, Rational Male, Pook. I spent the last month working through NMMNG for a second time. I’ve been feeling more…

Thanks, this got me thinking about intent. I started doing it from the conform to my standard or fuck you mindset. It took me some time to get there and be fine with the relationship collapsing. But it’s very true that it takes a lot of skill to navigate harpy tones and other triggers, and that there’s plenty of room for improvement there for me. Food for thought about whether there’s a dance between these two.

OYS #4 30s, 5’10”, 164 lbs Lifts/nutrition: SQ 235, OHP 117.5, BP 192.5, DL 250. Doing GZCLP four days a week. Continuing to track calories/macros. Squats are feeling heavy as I get close to 1.5x bodyweight. Part could be mental, and/or the eating at a deficit. Books: Re-reading NMMNG. Previously read WISNIFG, MMSLP, MAP, Rational Male, Pook. I’ve been thinking about my reactions to shit tests. For a while I saw them as an opportunity to see if I could notice them in real time and “pass” them. L…

That’s a good point. There’s truth in that; food for thought. Thanks.

OYS #3 30s, 5’10”, 165 lbs Lifts: SQ 230, OHP 115, BP 190, DL 245. Doing GZCLP four days a week. Books: Re-reading NMMNG. Previously read WISNIFG, MMSLP, MAP, Rational Male, Pook. Lifting/nutrition: I’ve reassessed my lifting routine and added some accessory work. I’ve continued to weigh food and meal prep to hit goals for macros and calories. Eating at a deficit has made lifting more challenging. I’m close to a month now with no alcohol, which is also good for the mental aspect (not using it as…

OYS #2 30s, 5’10”, 166 lbs Lifts: SQ 225, OHP 115, BP 187.5, DL 240. Doing GZCLP four days a week. Books: Re-reading NMMNG. Previously read WISNIFG, MMSLP, MAP, Rational Male, Pook. I’m continuing to work through NMMNG and writing down observations at the end of the day, like a daily review. This has helped to be more mindful during the day and pay closer attention to unconscious behaviors that feel like conditioned responses. A big one I’ve noticed is picking up the phone and distracting myself…

OYS #1 Mid 30s, 5’10”, 169lbs Lifts: SQ 220 (3x5), BP 185 (6x2), OHP 112.5 (3x5), DL 235 (3x5). Doing GZCLP four days a week. Books: Re-reading NMMNG. Previously read WISNIFG, MMSLP, MAP, Rational Male, Pook. This time around, I’m talking to a safe person as I’m going through NMMNG. This has been helpful in dropping my filter and noticing how I can place too much importance in what others think of me and how limiting that actually is. It’s been an eye-opener noticing, in real time, hesitation in…
