Fair enough. I just know enough about the popular dialogue around this issue to know that certain people don't want to hear the facts about it. Children aren't getting sexual reassignment surgery in this country, with the exception of some cases of intersex children who undergo surgery shortly after birth.

Just FYI: Certain hormonal therapies are allowed for children who are 16 and older. Sexual reassignment surgery is not legal to be performed on anyone under 18 in this country. I agree with one part of that: we don't know what happened leading up to this, and it's possible that ghosting was justified. You're right-- no one is obligated to treat other people with basic manners. If someone is incapable of doing that, they might get called "rude". It's just like how freedom of speech is not the same as freedom from criticism.

I hear this argument all the time.... As if the best course of action toward someone you're afraid of offending is to offend them even more by ghosting them. Makes no sense. If a woman is walking home and sees a man approaching on the sidewalk and doesn't feel safe, she should cross the street to the other sidewalk, with no regard for his feelings. Because her safety is more important, and increasing physical distance between her and that man objectively makes her more safe. That type of thinkin…
