You can't actually demonstrate that what you're saying has any basis in reality, other than implying "because I said so." Just stop.

thanks for telling me my definition of rape but no thanks. There's another comment that goes into the research on whether young men even understand what rape is (spoiler, a ton of them do not).

Funny that you bring up WBC. Some of the close family members have left the church after, yep, debating sane people. Look up Megan Phelps-Roper.

Yeah, compare how many catholic priests were pedophiles and how many muslims are terrorists. Go for it.

You mean we can't just make stuff up and assert it as fact "because look at life" QE fucking D? Because it seems preeeetty reasonable to me

As I stare into the miserable void of this subreddit, I often wonder: how do you people not notice the HUGELY popular BBW fetish on the internet, to say nothing of the happily married overweight women running around? How do you make so many sweeping generalizations and never get the sneaking feeling that you're just making shit up? The world may never know

So you do realize that some of the rape accusations aren't false, right? You were talking about he-said she-said situations... and in some of those situations, the accusation is true. I really hope that that wasn't lost on you. And yes, I do disagree that we can come up with a list of potential benefits from taking a certain action and then say "well that means people will do it for these reasons!" Because that's an extremely oversimplified view of human behavior.

I don't really mind if you use ad homs, I'm just pointing out that that's what they are. In other words, everything you're saying is irrelevant and meaningless.

When you can't see how a person's emotions might understandably play into their subsequent decisions, you lack empathy. It really is that simple.

how they feel is irrelevant And that's why I said you have no empathy for them. Instead of putting yourself in their shoes and trying to imagine how they might feel, you just say "Whelp their fault for not reporting! Silly women always expecting people to have sympathy for them after they were raped! Why should other people help to prevent rape?! obviously this is just womens' battles, am I right guys??" Seriously, none of this shit is even remotely relevant to their mindset after they have just…

So women can control how they feel after a rape? Ok, great. You're gonna fix so many things.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/15 02:15 AM

What the fuck does any of that have to do with whose fault it is when women don't report rapes?
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/15 02:05 AM

You bolded "only" like that somehow means something. "Only" is the correct word to use when you have a bunch of men that seriously believe there is a good chance of this happening to them. The point of the thread was not "this isn't an issue because not enough people are being falsely convicted." On a separate note, I'd be interested to hear your plan for completely eliminating false convictions for any crime.

Hey, I can also make lists! Think of what a rapist would gain by successfully convincing people that they did not rape someone: They can avoid going to prison They can maintain good social standing with whomever believes them They can portray themselves as a victim of the person they raped They can create trouble for the victim What do these "incentives" have to do with anything? There's incentives to rob old ladies too, that doesn't mean I'm going to go do it.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/12/15 01:58 AM

I didn't get any other relevant details out of what you said. Do you seriously think a woman who was just raped is thinking "but what will it do for the rest of the world if I don't report this rape?" and that she's morally obligated to have that outweigh all of the possible consequences for her if she does report it? After she was just raped? Find someone else to blame for that shit. Maybe rapists.

So you know how silly it sounds when you deny that different people have different preferences?

That's like saying that since society would collapse if everyone refused to be bankers, then I am freeloading because I'm not a banker. That makes no sense.

The court of public opinion, while not an actual tangible entity, can have some pretty serious and very tangible effects on peoples' lives. I agree with this, but I don't think you realize how it also applies to the rape victim. If you were raped, but had no evidence of it for whatever reason, and everyone else continued to treat your rapist like a great person, then that would be a shitty thing to live with in social situations. If you tell someone that they're a rapist, and the person doesn't …

You say "court of public opinion" like that's a real thing. It's just an expression that lets us talk about the majority public opinion and how the majority reacts to the accused afterward. That's really just a bunch of individuals doing what they do. We ant know what really happened, but anyone who interacts with these two directly is going to have to use their best judgment to decide how to proceed. That's not a "conviction."

Behavioral differences are caused by physical differences (in animals). How do you separate that from society's influence in humans? How do you handle all the men and women that don't fit the most common male/female patterns we see?
/r/PurplePillDebate02/12/15 02:34 AM

Experiencing your own life and writing about that is completely different from experiencing someone else's life through their actions and then writing about that. You don't know how that person is feeling or why they do what they do or what they will do in the future. So some anecdotes will be more useful than others. I think the idea that sleeping with lots of people somehow ruins you for commitment is silly. You either want to commit and you're capable of it or you don't.

Dimorphism is about differences in physical characteristics. Feminists don't deny that that exists. When you get into "women are better at empathy and men are better at logic" territory, no, feminists are not likely to agree most of the time, but that's not "dimorphism."

except we have data showing that plenty of men don't know certain actions are rape, and don't know how to get consent If you don't have consent then gasp yes that's your fault

Again... Women getting drunk at parties are only a small portion of rape and assault victims. So it's not really a solution. The solution for those women would be not leaving their house in the first place.

I don't know that I agree that what you're saying is toxic femininity is analogous to toxic masculinity. the problem is, are these traits that are inherent in most men and women, or are they just common to men and women because of our culture?

but they don't see that they should be fixed prosecute What we need is education. Yes, as an individual woman, all you can do to protect yourself is what you can do with your own actions. Unfortunately that doesn't stop people from blaming women for getting raped, and expecting them to fix their behavior without doing anything about rapists. That leads to a place where we don't actually try those solutions, because it's easier to just tell women to fix themselves. And as I explained, that's not …

This is a misconception about rapists. They're not all consciously looking for victims to force into sex--they have all kinds of ways of rationalizing and justifying their behavior, to the point where many people that commit assaults really don't think they've done anything wrong. They wouldn't describe it as assault or rape. Many of the people doing rapey things appear more "normal" than people like to assume.

Part of what makes this so confusing is that there are attacks going in every direction from all sorts of people. Some people take advantage of that and just call them all "the feminists," but it can be hard to decide what a consensus would be or who is actually representative of feminists.

Well we shouldn't have to do those things, but I think all of the sane people acknowledge that the simple reality here is that we do need to do those things. The problem comes in when we imply that exercising caution is the solution to assault, when there are so many other things we can do. Women are blamed for being assaulted all the time, this didn't stop 50 years ago--judging based on what she was wearing still happens. In any case, we still have no reason to blame a woman after an assault ha…

There are two different things at play here. Women do tell each other to be careful around men and in situations where they could be vulnerable--don't leave your drink alone, don't get so drunk that you're incapacitated, don't be alone with someone you don't know, make sure your friends know where you are and who you're with, etc. and all of that is fine. Here is what is not fine: trying to prevent rape and assault simply by telling women to fix their behavior. Ultimately, rape and assault are t…

This is one of the most absurd things they say and I don't understand why they don't notice how absurd it is. They just expect everyone to agree that men don't like it when women have slept with a lot of other men, but... why?
