| 1 | Just had my first son.....It usually defaults to the husband, but the mom has the option of naming someone else, or no one at all. The nurse who helped my wife and I fill out our paperwork just straight up asked what name to put down for the father. She said they're basically required to list whatever name the mom gives, whether that's the kid's real father is a separate issue. | /r/MensRights | 01/12/21 08:08 PM |
| 6 | Just had my first son.....That's because a mom doesn't have to name her husband as the father. I asked about this when my kid was born. The mom can basically name anyone they want as the father, or leave that part of the paperwork blank. The reason it says "birth parent" is that unless you get a paternity test, the hospital can only be absolutely, positively, 100% certain about who the kid's mom is, not the dad. | /r/MensRights | 01/12/21 06:36 PM |
