Because the democrats at best are centrists. They are usually paying lip service to causes on the left, so they get voting support, but not much else.

About homelessness: I am pretty sure people are migrating to places with better accommodations like homelessness shelters, less hostile architecture and government benefits. And because the US is a right wing hellscape, they still can't get out of poverty.

How does being aware that somethings of what media indoctrinates into you are poisonous to yourself and others? Like I don't know, I just think it is nice that I know fully well that I am not really supposed to express emotions to everyone and that I can work against that, rather than pile it up and turn to anger, like I am supposed to.

The thing is there were people who didn't fit the binary since forever, even if not on written record, in culture; just because you haven't heard of a case where it happened doesn't mean it didn't.
