From a Christian standpoint, this doesn’t really track. The wife is instructed to submit and the husband is instructed to love sacrificially. Nothing gives either spouse the right to punish the other when they don’t hold up their end. Marriages only work when each partner does their part willingly. If one partner is more focused on making the other one do their job, it’s going to fail. If your husband is also a Christian, I would recommend taking this to your pastor. Assuming he is a reasonable …

Unlike the others, I wouldn’t personally have a problem with even this large of an age gap. However, if he’s cheated on you, that seems inexcusable to me. If looking back, you can see him manipulating you, that’s not good and it’s not something you want. 39 is too old for those mistakes. If he had been rock solid from day one, sure. If he wasn’t, and you still have doubts, you should trust those instincts.

Yeah, paying for childcare is almost certainly not worth it. If your husband’s income is not enough for even the two of you under a strict frugal budget, then yeah, that’s obviously not going to work. I don’t know how he can’t see that. The best solution here is that he gets another job. If it was man-to-man, I’d tell him straight he has to provide for his family and he isn’t cutting it. But that doesn’t work for a woman to say, I don’t think. Unfortunately since I’m not a woman, I don’t really …

First off, I’m a man, so mods feel free to remove. I don’t think this is specifically a femininity question, so I feel qualified to answer. Secondly, I would encourage you to look at your finances again. I understand you have worked very hard to keep your expenses low, and that is good. But you may be overestimating the cost of the baby. You’ve been working for a year at a high paying job, so you should have the cash to cover the hospital bill for the birth. That’s the only major cost. (And even…

The number one issue I see here is him asking for an open marriage. I appreciate you not wanting to leave him, that is an admirable position. But this issue must be solved, the marriage hangs on it. It’s possible he’s already cheated and is now looking to justify it. It’s also possible hasn’t. At the very least, he wants to. I agree with other commenters that a third party therapist or counselor would be wise. Dealing with these issues is complicated. Your husband is unsatisfied with something, …

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
