I'm so glad you came up with a counter-example to support your "all" point. You could have put that at the front of your post, and saved the effort of typing all that sarcasm.

I think the insidious part of RP theory is that it does work, often enough. And if that helps some young men break out of the awkwardness that holds them back, that's good. I just don't want so much extra weird baggage tied onto that, when the part that works doesn't depend on it at all. I wouldn't want to demonize anyone based on their beliefs. Everyone in the debate should exercise some empathy (this isn't directed at you, as your post was very thoughtful) and recognize that others don't come …

Atypical non+Western women? Lots of atypical western women out there. Personally I'm a fan of non-western women, but that's a matter of preference.

Well, I guess it is a focused on me argument some - because AWALT is ALL women. One disproves the rule. Beyond that, I'd pull up the culture argument from my OP. Western men (or non-Western men) increasingly encounter non-Western women these days. And if evo-psych theories based on Western history are applied excessively, men choke themselves off. More broadly, its always the 4th quarter with the game on the line so you need to be ready to do your best I don't think that's my argument at all... …

If people only get married if their "expected happiness" crosses some threshold from marriage, we'd expect about the same happiness in marriage over time... Just less people think they'd be that happy, right? I'm with you that marriage has gotten less profitable to men over recent times, for various reasons. I just don't think that implies the men who actually are married, knowing that, will be unhappy. thanks for the cites!

Yep, I don't have any real objection to ladder theory. It's a classic, and pretty good model for men to think along. And the video is pretty good. Many could quibble about the "alpha male" thing but whatever. I'm not sure if BB/AF is the way to split it... Again, could quibble but I'm not sure it's worth it. Internalizing this is part of why I have no female friends, except when I expect a relationship to break up soon. And I don't care at all how many male friends my GF has. "Keeping up the gam…

I don't really know what you mean by "teach." Getting along with someone for a long term relationship takes a lot of learning by both people. Lessons taught by previous partners fuck things up as often as they help.

..."chronically overworked" American husbands are happy with being treated like wallets with legs, with hardly any free time to themselves, and their sex lives held at legal gunpoint I'd want to see more evidence this is true for a large sample of men. I guess we could assume most married men are fundamentally stupid, and choose marriage against their own best interests. Much the same way the feminists 40 years ago assumed that any women who got married would also be stupid, to give up her right…

You take the basic foundation of lifting, reading, social competency and then you decide which ancillary ideas you want to adopt. I guess so, but if part of the menu is toxic, take it off. chasing outliers is a waste. There are 7 billion people on this planet and you are going to exclude 99 out of 100 or 999 out of 1000 to find your unicorn? I don't think it's excluding 99% of women to say they're not all the same. Besides, TRP might never know if they happened to have found their unicorn, if th…

That's probably true - I did find this NIH study which shows that married couples in particular, even holding levels of income constant, tend to live longer. So it's not purely a wealth effect, but income might be correlated with other things like good habits or values, less drinking/smoking, and so on...

I can't say you're wrong - went looking for a paper, first one I found says "omitted variables" are the biggest cause of married men's earnings... I do think there are some intuitive reasons why matrimony is better for men's health and wealth, but I won't push the point without evidence to back it up.

AWALT is a useful tool to help men maintain frame and not let women manipulate us into beta ways. Believing AWALT is essential in helping men NOT put women on a pedestal. I can agree here, actually, for most men. I have a twist on it (below) but if this was a r/CMV post, here's a ∆ I think you're relying too much on anecdotes for evidence. This is an ongoing issue for TRP (partly because, there's no real data to work off of). an air traffic controller screwed up and caused two planes to crash...…

No. I'm referring to what AWALT means. It means women conform to RP theory and so you can apply RP theory to women. Yes, I know what it means, and I'm saying I disagree with that. This whole thing reads like you have absolutely no understanding of what RP is and think of us as pick up artists. Red pillers are out to discuss what the world is like so that we can get what we want out of it. Yes, I'm saying your way of understanding what the world is like is flawed, so you won't get all that much o…

"varying" degrees of social conditioning. Yeah... I think the fact that I'm tall and I'm financially stable probably helped. It's not all social conditioning. But AWALT is stupid because it assumes behavior that works on middle-class western women is universally applicable TRP also says that middle-class western women are never worth marrying (or read Heartiste, who says no woman ever is worth marrying) Implies: TRP men will never be in a happy marriage. That's stupid because lasting marriage, t…

Obviously the most objectionable part of RP is that you can apply it. I guess this is just you being snarky? I found things I could apply 10 years ago which required no theories about the "nature of women" which resulted in romantic success. Lots of dicks get sucked thanks to our theory. Boom. Any man could drive around a big city for 30 minutes, pay $50, and get head. If that's the only goal, there are much cheaper ways to accomplish it than wasting time "spinning plates" or whatever. So any wo…

There are definitely higher-value man queues. I just think that TRP signals lower value man for some niches in the population, and those niches of women happen to make the best partners. Others' tastes may vary, I suppose. If 1,000 years of different breeding incentives was irrelevant, Pugs and Chihauhaus wouldn't exist... As they didn't 200 years ago. (yes, I suppose now someone 6 months from now will jump on my comparison of women to dogs... whoops)

thinking that all teenagers like rebellious fun which is sometimes drinking. Do you even have any evidence of this besides anecdote? There are many cultures where teenagers conform to their parents views. Our goal at /r/TheRedPill is to create a model of all women and all social interactions. Yeah, and I'm saying that's the most objectionable part at TRP. The model becomes the focus, which is dangerous to believers' mental health and love prospects. There are redeeming features to TRP, but the f…

Is vestigial cavewoman mental wiring universal? Different parts of the world diverged from the caveman lifestyle at various points. Just to be more specific, my girlfriend is East Asian. They adopted agriculture over a thousand years before Europeans. Even buying into genetics --> sexual strategy completely (which is a big concession) why would you expect all women to have the same mental wiring, or respond to the same sexual cues?

women's nature, not traits. That sounds like a distinction without a difference. It also sounds non-falsifiable - if I say "well, my GF doesn't have the same nature as the women that TRP describes", you just say "oh, she has a few different traits." That's why I say TRP theory is pseudo-science. It's exactly that view of "women have some 'nature'" that I'm describing as really destructive. Yeah, many women have that nature (or is it traits?) But some women's traits overwhelm that "nature". By al…

I'd say the market for houses, kids schools and stuff like that has changed a lot, but feminism doesn't have much to do with it. Much easier case to blame economic policy choices like easy credit availability which caused inflation in some sectors.

(feminism has greatly increased the cost of living for everyone involved because being single is way too expensive now) I don't really understand what you mean by this... Can you explain more? Off-hand, I can't think of any way feminism relates to cost of living, or encourages marriage. I'm pretty happy with most of the social changes related to feminism. It's socially acceptable for me to live with my longterm girlfriend, never would have been the case in the past. She's a feminist and doesn't …

Portraying bad dating advice as a conspiracy by women against men is kind of silly, for the same reasons that any conspiracy theory is. An easier explanation is that women just don't give very good dating advice, or base their advice on the type of man they could imagine themselves marrying... Not the type of man they look to date. Also, I suspect that it's the cultish insider-speak that TRP uses, plus general put-downs toward women, that makes them hostile to it. If it was just "be confident, g…

I agree that in context of someone who's already been victimized, asking about their responsibility is insensitive and out of place. But, general conversations about taking sensible precautions are good because they allow people to learn from the mistakes of others without having to be victimized themselves. re: my ex-GF. I think the lesson there is not so much about self-defense but situational awareness. Luckily she's tough and won the fight, but a person who is aware of their surroundings has…

There are outside factors for health too - genetics, environment, just bad luck. But saying "I could drop dead of a heart attack tomorrow" doesn't mean healthy living is worthless. I agree, there are some things that society can do to prevent rape, like better education about consent. But no matter how much society tries, it can't stop every rapist. 1% of the population are sociopaths and don't care at all about morals or persuasion. At some point, individuals have to look out for their own safe…

But why can't we make a world like that? Why do we have to accept the status quo? Taking steps to make a better world and encouraging people to take care in making responsible decisions are not mutually exclusive. I dream of a world where aging can be cured, where a failing heart can be perfectly replaced with a healthy substitute, all at a price any person can afford. But we don't live in that world, so until we get there, it's wise to take care of your heart through exercise and proper diet. A…

Yeah, if you're looking for above-average, then by definition they're rare. That's kind of the point. Most TRP strategy comes off as quantity over quality. Then TRPers go complain "women are so low quality!" Well, if your goals revolve around short-term and mutually unfulfilled relationships, there's a big selection effect at work.

I really can't tell if you're trolling, or if this is honest self-caricature. You make a post about how women don't value men, and then display how little you value women... Maybe stop to consider that the attitude you have has a big influence on the type of women that you'll interact with.

I don't really care about labeling you, I just think it's amusing that this argument boils down to "I'm the exception to the rule and should be treated differently", and in any other context, TRP guys would be brigading with "there are no exceptions to the rules! NAMALT amirite?!?" but are strangely silent in this context. I'm not sure what the purpose of claiming the moral high ground here is. As I said above, the big age range is morally ambiguous, and in a way that some people are uncomfortab…

I'm not sure if you'd identify as red pill, but if so, this debate coming down to "not all 30 year old men who date 18 year olds are like that" would be kind of an ironic twist. Ageism as it's typically used is about discrimination against seniors. This seems more like "people are being judgmental based on incomplete info", which they are.Very literally it is ageism, but it's the kind of ageism that's not considered legally or morally wrong... Probably because in this case age is helping and not…

Race is the wrong analogy here because in modern society, mixed race couples come in on a basically-equal footing. The whole point of dating someone younger is that you have a lot more experience and control over their life than they have of yours, and that's what people are objecting to.

It obviously is a huge power difference between us. Why is that a bad thing though? I don't abuse people not because I can't, because I don't have the power. Change to 18th century context: "Yes, I control all my wife's finances and I can beat her if she disobeys me. But I am a noble, kind man and I would never take advantage of that situation because I don't want to." This is an exaggeration, but your logic comes off the same way. Most 18th century men probably were noble and kind to their wive…

I'm not trying to say you're an evil person, just explain why you're getting the reactions that you do. But if it's #3 I'd have to ask, if you're just a guy with a heart of gold helping out a young woman, why are you her boyfriend and not just a "friend helping out"? If she's in a bad situation and you're saving her from circumstance while also having a sexual relationship, that just makes the unequal power dynamic even more obvious. Unlike some other replies, I'm not making moral judgments abou…

Observing a large age difference gives information about the status of the relationship and the people in it. I'm in my mid-20s and I wouldn't be interested in a serious relationship with an 18 year old, because I don't think she'd have anything interesting to talk about. Naivety is only cute for so long. Seeing a big age difference, I'd infer either She's an especially mature 18 year old and you are an especially immature mid-30s, or You desire a relationship where there is a highly unequal pow…

she knows she brings value to the relationship and wants the support a long term commitment brings and thus may bug out if there is no legal binding after a period of time This is a very valid and underrated point. It's simple risk/reward logic. If you refuse to take any risk (committing to marriage) then you give up a lot of potential reward, because a woman who will stay with you through her late 20s without commitment - giving up her best time for marriage - is probably on some highly unequal…

Doesn't matter if she pays rent or not, or if she's on the lease or not. According to the law, she's a tenant if she's lived there a certain amount of time. Check the NC laws, you need to give 30 day notice to kick out a roommate, which is what she would qualify as in this case.

^ ^ ^ Don't listen to this man. This advice is illegal based on tenancy laws. In most states, if she has been living there for 30 days (some states, even less) she counts as a tenant and must be evicted through legal proceedings if you want to kick her out. I know, rah rah, woman is a jerk for threatening to call the cops, but it would be royally stupid to react to this in a way that can actually get you in trouble with the law without her lying about it at all...
