I’m arguing that we should do it without restricting people’s decision to have a child or not. That's just not possible. People are hard wired to want kids. That's why you are trying desperately to make it seem logical when it objectively isn't from the human species perspective. The fact is people that don't think about it are still going to have them until you stop them.

The Earth's carrying capacity is about 20 billion if all agriculture was state of the art aquaponics (which it isn't). Regardless we waste 50% of the food we grow & most countries are running out of non-renewables & space for people to live. We either have to cut population growth, live in dense arcologies or turn the planet into a wasteland. You decide. Why not? We don't need more people, & if we did we could just let more immigrants in. Most of societies social problems are the direct result of bad parenting. Depends on if they suck at being a parent. Having been raised by incompetent parents I can tell you right now if you raise a kid & suck at it it will affect your kid & they will probably end up resenting you & that probably won't be fun for you no matter how much you "want a child."
