The other side of this is how helpful is it to classify things as assault? Does it help us to have something that didn’t bother us or we’ve just put down as a weird experience classified as sexual assault? Im not sure it is helpful at all. If you are taught the world is sexist and to class a woman feeling you up in a nightclub as assault you are more likely to feel outrage and victimised. How we process things changes how we feel about them and then changes how they affect us.. I’m not convinced…

So part of the issue is women earning less than men right? Because that means that men are under pressure to stay in work as the primary earner

I think, for me, the key point here is feminists argue (and now the dominant belief is) that men have always held power and voting rights is one of the big examples of this. I think more accurate would be to say power resides with wealth not sex. Wealthy men then wealthy women had the right to vast before the vast majority of men and women did. To look at it as a sex issue is wrong and leads to false conclusions.

In the UK don’t men and women get shared parental leave if they want it? So they can choose to have equal amounts?

Do these things that happen to men effect them as badly as they do women? Ive been groped by women, made jokes about my appearance by women, discriminated even, but i do wonder if my experiences hurt as much as women’s. I don’t know the answer. I don’t know how vulnerable i feel compared to a women when these thing’s happen. I also don’t know how much social outrage effects these things. Women are told being felt up or objectified is terrible and abusive, so does that make them feel worse when i…

Yes loads. You won’t really find them on the Internet though, or at least if you do they’ll be shouted down by the crazies. Lots of women are mums of boys and men. They have dads they love. They don’t believe the nonsense about men being evil etc etc. Loads of this is social media internet driven nonsense

I have no real argument with women doing non front line roles. Saying the gun of the biggest equaliser is just ignorance. You don’t just get teleported into a battle in front of someone with a gun

In the UK women didn’t fight front line.

Where in combat? I don’t think that’s true in the British army
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/04/24 09:39 PM

So that was to get women to help out with the auxiliary armed forces right, not front line? I think I’ve already commented on that, but I’m not against women being called up into support roles

You say countries get to a certain point in a war and then they conscript women. I am not aware of that happening? When and where was this?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/04/24 07:55 PM

Nobody has ever said women are useless. I certainly did not and would not. What you are not disagreeing with is that men, in general, make far better killers. They are in general stronger, and more aggressive. You’re idea of filling up the army with women so it’s ‘fairer’ strikes me as childish. It seems ideological rather than based in reality. The idea of armies isn’t that they are to be a representation of a fair society. Armies are there to win wars. And if we’re at the point of conscription…

I don’t think your idea of just more bodies is how wars are fought nowadays. Also somebody has to carry on keeping the country working and looking after children. So it makes sense for the less effective fighters to do that job. Some women have a choice about carrying babies, some don’t. And if a couple want children it is always the woman who must have them. What’s more, men haven’t been conscripted in the uk for over 60 years

Of course some women will outperform men. But the majority of men will outperform the majority of women. The average men are significantly stronger and faster, than the average women. Your arguments aren’t based in the real world. If you have to draft say 100,000 soldiers you should take them from the best group which will clearly be the men, and clearly that isn’t fair for us men. Women don’t elect to carry babies and go through child birth either. Some things just aren’t fair, and shouldn’t be…

I don’t see what other way there is if we decide we’re have to fight a war. If we have to fight, we have to do everything we can to win. If having an army made up of women and men makes us less likely to win why would we do it? Just to prove that we are being ‘fair’ to men and women? What irks me is that it’s not out in the open. That media talk women and children being the first victims of war etc etc.. of the men fighting being just accepted and their heroism not being brought into sharp focus…

I think men and women do need to be treated differently in some instances. War being one of them. Obviously men being exposed to the horror of fighting wars is not good for society. But i would argue, if you live in free society, it is better for us to win a war against an aggressor. And i think that having an army made up of mostly men would be a more effective army. For instance the allied war against the German Nazis needed to be won for the good of society. Even if that meant millions of men…

I don’t see how those two things are the same. I guess you have to look at the outcome for society of both those things, not just simplify complex discussions into simple if this then that. You’re sounding a bit Cathy Newman

I guess it depends upon if you think sexism is treating men and women exactly the same regardless of anything else. I don’t think treating men and women differently is necessarily sexist.

Is men not having babies misandrist too?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/04/24 01:09 PM

Lots of men aren’t suited to it. I have a son and a daughter. My son is in no way suited to war. He is bookish, academic, and rather clumsy. He’s like me. One of the gentlest kids you’ll meet. My daughter is an absolute beast. She’s athletically gifted and tough as steel. She competes against boys, but she’s a junior and gifted. But in general men will massively out perform women. Pretending otherwise is just nonsense. Ask any pro female athlete if she can (or wants to) compete with men. They kn…

True. I’m just saying i don’t think adult women are as suited as adult men to combat.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/04/24 12:55 PM

I don’t think the draft of men is misandry. I think it’s practical, adult men are more on average more violent and stronger physically. We’re also brought up with the idea of is being the protectors. If you’re talking about calling up specifically into fighting roles it makes sense to take us men. War is shit and it’s especially shit for men. There is a case for calling women up into non direct conflict roles
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/04/24 12:53 PM

I don’t want women called up to fight a conflict. To be fair i don’t want men called up either

Modern family has a range of portrayals of positive masculinity. It has Jay as a more traditional male role, phil as a more modern figure who cares for his kids, Mitch and Cam too. The females are a range of types too. Hayley is sex Obsessed, alex is a feminist etc

That’s not a social experiment. What you’re posting is entertainment media. You may as well post a clip of a marvel movie as ‘evidence ‘. Peer reviewed studies published in a reputable scientific journals, ideally RCTs, are evidence.

I bet this is from piece of research that is massively over exaggerated. Its well understood that groups of women working together can be horribly toxic compared to men

‘A powerful woman would be keen on helping other women in her society’ That sounds like an invented fact As does your assertion that men would not Do you have any evidence for that?

So he’s right wing. He’s not the right type of Asian for you? He doesn’t count? The fact that an Asian man can be elected to be the most powerful person in the country isn’t significant because he’s the wrong type of Asian for you?

There is a huge difference between playing the role of a man and being male. Psychologists understand that our self concept is formed between the age of 3 and 5 .. to think you can experience your fundamental developmental life experience growing up female up to young adulthood and then switch to male and know what it is to be male is naive. However much you would like it to be true. Trans people do have a unique experience of a trans person and have an interesting perspective and insight into g…

I’m fixating on his statement about 99% because it’s an extraordinarily misleading comment or belief. There’s a massive difference between saying ‘some women’ believe X and practically every woman in the world believes X Let’s be honest it’s not even 40%. We could even be more honest and say it’s because his experience of women is on online forums where everything, much like his own comments, is ridiculously exaggerated and just playing to their audience. If he was to get into the real World and…

I’m not sure what your comment actually means, other than it being a clever retort. I didn’t mean to be rude, i am just being direct. For someone to actually believe that 99% of women think anything, i can only assume you don’t have any decent relationships with women because you are displaying a completely unrealistic opinion about ‘women’ For heavens sake, you can’t say 99% of ‘men’ think anything, or 99% of germans think something because its clearly untrue
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/02/24 10:35 PM
-29

To be honest, you don’t sound like you do. You sound like a man who doesn’t really talk with women, doesn’t really have any good relationships with women, and so have developed a very unrealistic impression of women as something unlike ourselves and make sweeping unfounded generalisations about them
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates14/02/24 10:17 PM

Well the author said men are just as vulnerable to being trafficked as women and that female on male sexual violence is massively overlooked, so i think the implication is that the numbers are somehow equitable, or at least high numbers. I’m just wondering where his evidence is so we can have a fact informed discussion rather than a rant
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates11/02/24 08:24 PM

Do you have any evidence of the massiveness of the issue?

The problem with this experience is it’s not a true man/woman experience but a trans man/ woman experience. How much of that is that he was behaving like a woman still rather than as a man. Men tend to give way to women out of respect. I doubt he was doing that after he had the opp so possibly seemed aggressive to the women.

No you’re just calling JK Rowling transphobic because she disagrees with Your opinion. Saying a trans woman is not a woman doesn’t make you transphobic. Saying women have vagina’s doesn’t make you transphobic either. However uncomfortable or unpalatable that may be for you.

Yep. I think I agree with you. And I’m not in favour of people generating outrage just for the sake of it or people overthinking and being overly ideological to point score or battle for power or whatever.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/01/24 08:18 AM

That’s really my point though. What you are saying is that what happened was a crime so I should have been outraged. Maybe it wasn’t awful and isn’t criminal. Maybe for a lot of people it’s something they can shrug off and isn’t so bad. Maybe the outrage you’re wanting me to feel is unnecessary, unhelpful, and decisive. Maybe if you insist I have been wronged it makes me a victim of something, and that me being a victim would be worse for me that actually being blasé about the whole thing. I do …

I have mixed feelings about this. I was groped pretty frequently by women when I was younger and partying and it didn’t upset me one bit. Even when it was from women I wasn’t interested in. I’m straight and was groped by men when I was in a Gay nightclub once, and that was very full on and whilst it shocked me it didn’t upset me. I just ran away and told my friends about it as a funny/weird experience. I do wonder how much of it is a difference experience because I’m male, or whether it’s becaus…

It sounds to me like you’re spending too long discussing these things online and too little time mixing with women in real life. The internet polarises option and makes the world seem unfriendly
