If this is meant to be a gotcha, it's a terrible gotcha. You asked a question, I responded with at least one direct example and a couple related ones, and your response is "But what about Syria?" Most, if not damn near all, journalists who go into places like Syria are men. But let me ask you a question. Do you think that a female journalist in ISIS/Taliban territory would be more at risk, less at risk, or at the same risk as a male counterpart doing the exact same job?

Not sure if it was beheading, but at least one female journalist, Suha Ahmed Radi, was executed by ISIS in 2015. Shifa Zirki Gardi was killed in Iraq by a roadside bomb while reporting live in 2017. Malalai Maiwand was killed by "gunmen" (likely ISIS according to the article) in Afghanistan in 2020. The most frustrating part of this is that it's reported so unfathomably poorly. Percentage of fatalities only makes sense if you also include the proportion of female to male journalists! The data you posted COULD actually mean women are being targeted if the proportions were also reported. For an extreme example, let's pretend there are a million male journalists but only 10 female journalists. I went to the Denver Basic Income Project's website, specifically the Participant Criteria section. There is nothing at all about men being excluded, and nothing at all about transgender people and women being preferred. I don't think she's referring to the extremely specific circumstance of a rape accusation. It's more of a "Men were on top socially for a long time, and they're not anymore, but now we've gone too far in correcting that and men are now on the bottom, which also isn't fair."

Dude, what? If I say "The rate of rape in the U.S. is 10%", pretty much every normal person hearing that is going to assume that is not including prison. That's what I meant by exclude. I don't think you do actually understand averages. Your way of not excluding prison rates would be as meaningless as including Botswana in US numbers.

There's no dismissal of victims, it's simply not comparing like with like when you include prison statistics in overall statistics. If you include prison statistics in overall statistics, you both make the "real world" seem much worse than it is AND make the prison rape epidemic seem much less severe than it is. There is no good to come from that, the context surrounding them make them incompatible with each other when trying to decide how to solve these problems.

When talking about rape statistics, I probably would decide to exclude prison rapes. I'm not saying that prison rapes aren't a problem- they absofuckinglutely are- but prison and the "real world" are so far removed from each other that it's tough to draw correlations between the two. Prisons are essentially completely removed from society.

I'd expect a fight. It seems to me that most feminists in lobbying positions or positions of influence would hate the idea of any autonomy being given to men in the reproductive sphere like that. Yes, we have condoms and such now, but there's something fundamentally different about hormonal contraception.
