I thought this would be the case. In this situation, they hadn’t gone through official channels, so legally, he was like any other man who’d gotten a woman pregnant that he wasn’t involved with. The partner was never even a legal parent to the child.

My husband is a stay at home dad, it’s lots of on call stuff. So there might be downtime or there might be tons of fires to put out. Right now im away with the national guard and i know for a fact that he’s working harder than me.

A lot of people have hypocritical demands, people who are out of shape but want a fit partner, people who want a more successful partner than them, people who want a partner with a more stable relationship with their family, who have kids but want a partner with none, etc. It’s just a matter of whether the person they want will have the same demands.

It's ridiculous to call believing that a person should take measures to protect themselves victim blaming. Doors have locks because there are bad people in the world and we know it.

Do you think most 18 year old childless men approaching college would be aware of that prior to selecting their career path? I think discrimination would account more for the numbers leaving the field (which I don't know) than the failure if men to enter the field. When they cease to be an anomoly the discrimination will be reduced. When teaching salaries aren't laughable more young men will enter the field.

If we're going to say that the wage gap is primarily because the career choices of women are less financially driven, I think you also need to consider the possibility that, while this sexist behavior exists, very few men want to go to at least 4 years of college to make a teacher's salary.

Those aren't feminist jokes, at least the consent form isn't. The Army dudes I work with are always joking about that.

They're fiscally conservative, socially liberal. Unfortunately, we've had some republicans who couldn't get the nomination relabeling themselves even though they were anti abortion and anti gay marriage. (Ron Paul).

I'm sure most women understand the logical reasons there are going to be fewer female top executives. No point worrying about what a couple crazy assholes say.

Because boys aren't supposed to be chaste and people aren't going to freak out and alert their parents so they can report their son getting laid to the police.
/r/MensRights18/04/14 10:02 AM
1

I'm basing my opinion on anecdotal evidence, but since situations in which the boys were the aggressors would be far less likely to go to court, a formal gathering of information wouldn't be practical or accurate.

I don't think in high school guys are more likely to make the first move. Teenage guys are nervous and awkward while teenage girls are aware that they are physically mature. Most of us know we control the sex, and believe that if offered it will not be turned down.
/r/MensRights18/04/14 09:01 AM
1

I know guys are still attractive to them, but did you ever make a move on any? I do think both are wrong, I'm just saying that if there is a disparity, it doesn't favor the women.
/r/MensRights18/04/14 08:36 AM
-1

Maybe it's just because I had a thing for one of my teachers, but I would put more blame on a female teacher. Women are naturally attracted to power and authority and will pursue them, but I've never known a teenage boy to go after a female teacher. A male teacher likely failed to reject a girl, a female likely encouraged the boy.
/r/MensRights18/04/14 07:48 AM

I think a big part of the problem is guys aren't taken seriously because it's so rare for them to report it, but they don't report it because they don't think they'll be taken seriously.
/r/MensRights07/04/14 07:37 PM

That's a valid point, especially given that any proactive information beyond 'Don't leave your drink unattended' is considered victim blaming.

I thought it was a somewhat catch all term for the negative psychological effects following traumatic events, but I believe it is more commonly used that way in the military, which isn't typically on the cutting edge of psychological diagnosis and treatment. Given my reaction to sexual assault/attempted rape was to disassociate and act out sexually, I can see how that same disassociation could result in other people being unable to detect a dangerous situation. The only actual people (not statis…

You can't arrest someone for a false statement just because there isn't proof. The fact that they arrested her means they know that he couldn't possibly have done what she said. Can you imagine the outcry if a real rape victim went through this because she didn't have a solid case?
/r/MensRights07/04/14 12:56 PM

It always strikes me as strange that they say a woman who is raped is more likely to be raped again, until I read things like this.

Men don't spend more time on their education, there are more women in college, but otherwise I agree with you. It is much more acceptable for women to be unemployed or home makers, and women's low skilled work tends to not show as much income on the W-2.

The ironic thing is that even if guys were more likely to be harm their children, girls are more likely to bring over unknown guys. (For some reason, I was told by a woman I babysat for that I could invite my boyfriend over, even though she had never met him)

/r/MensRights05/01/14 02:08 AM

What would a feminist portrayal of women in books? The only thing I can think of is women in jobs like doctor, mechanic, or construction worker, but I don't see those being harmful (since we really hold those jobs)
/r/MensRights05/01/14 02:01 AM

I hadn't thought about the hero fantasies. Getting the right book collection for boys is probably going to be a big focus for me, because I think that a love of reading is very important. Do you think most parents would be OK with their 5-11 year old kids reading comics, assuming the ones with more adult themes (like Iron Man's alcoholism and philandering) were excluded?
/r/MensRights05/01/14 01:29 AM
2

At the adult level you may be right (I don't know, I work with almost all men), but as a female who grew up being called a hermaphrodite, females are definitely expected to adhere to gender norms as adolescents.

I agree that there is a social aspect. It's very obvious in my city, where boys in elementary and middle school are bright and articulate, but in high school they somehow forget all that. It's sad that intelligence is not prized.
/r/MensRights03/01/14 04:35 AM
1

That's less likely to be an issue. Given that I'd be teaching in an urban neighborhood, statistically, I probably wouldn't have more than 4 girls. Besides, even though girls perform better than boys in the standard system, I'm sure they're still more engaged in the system described in this thread.

Assuming I'm not alone in the class room (I think they still have 2 or 3 teachers for special ed programs) I'll keep that in mind and make sure that even if something needs to be looked into, the outward appearance is always that we support him.
/r/MensRights03/01/14 12:30 AM
5

I don't think that is up to the teacher, and assuming that the goal is to learn more in an environment other than the main stream that is suffocating them, it may work against the child's interest, assuming the parents aren't drugging him. (I really hope most doctors aren't drugging children under 10)
/r/MensRights03/01/14 12:17 AM
5

Thanks :) I'm going into elementary level (to try to catch them before they stop caring) and I'm hoping to get a job in a pre k program before I finish my program. I'll start learning/practicing some projects now.
/r/MensRights03/01/14 12:00 AM
2

Oh yeah, I'm definitely against drugging children. I used to have to wait until Saturdays to tutor a kid because he would get so upset when he was taking his meth. (I've benefited from it as an adult, but I think medication needs to be a choice an adult makes when it comes to ADD and ADHD) Do you think school syllabusses allow enough time for in depth work with a given topic or do you think the entire system works against the ideal model?

Did you watch this video? I've been a mechanic for a while, maybe my hearing is just going but I can't make anything out. The wage gap isn't based on men and women with the same experience doing the same job, the number is based on the lifetime earnings of each, which would count women taking time off to take care of their children for years and then returning to the job when they're all in school and the woman's skills need to be refreshed. One also needs to consider that at the lowest level, an unskilled man is more likely to work in physically difficult jobs, like construction and warehouse work for $10-$14 an h…

When one is providing income for the purpose of receiving credit, for example, the form always says that it is not required to list payments for child support or alimony unless you want that money to be considered in your ability to repay, so I don't believe it does count towards income.

Many self identified feminists are sick and tired of the notion that we're not supposed to want sex as much as men, that we should be ashamed of sex, and that we need to be coerced into sex.

I've only heard of one guy reporting a date rape against a woman, that was in the military, he was successful. Lack of reporting probably skews things and makes men seem more like perpetrators.

As far as the bartender is concerned in this situation, he's helping a bro get laid, which many don't see as a bad thing. They assume the other party really wants to have sex, but they're just too uptight. It happens both ways. Our SHARP representative said they charged a woman with rape because the guy's friends sent her to his room after he was wasted, because they thought he needed to get laid, but he was just being uptight about it.
/r/MensRights01/11/13 04:49 PM

The trick I was talking about is a person has a friend who is a bartender, or gives the bartender a twenty, or whatever, and when the person orders two rum and cokes, both shots of rum go in the date's drink. The date thinks this individual is getting drunk with them, and is also unaware of how much they are drinking. It might not hit them until they've finished a second drink, and 4 shots can have a pretty substantial effect on a female. The purpose of this is that the individual has already pr…

Think about it: if you don't know what IS rape, then how do you know not to commit rape? Best line in the article. Why the fuck do we have laws against things that are so far from being innately wrong that people observing it can't tell it's wrong immediately? I've heard of scumbags drinking cokes while buying doubles for the person they're at a bar with, and that's wrong, and likely why the law was made, but it definitely wasn't intended to absolve women of responsibility after regrettable or e…

I'd say that the fact that men can have unwanted boners in a large variety of situations is proof they don't need to want the erection. It's also my understanding that some women orgasm during forcible rape. Does that physiological response negate their experience? Also, actually being horny isn't the same as wanting sex. People decide not to have sex that they want all the time.

The issue here is that you guys are taking every single reason to dislike/distrust women you can and treating it like it's a men's rights issue. Some people are manipulative, so don't date them, but you're not going to help your cause if people just think you all hate women. How much has that perspective helped the 'man hating feminists'?
/r/MensRights10/06/13 03:09 PM

I'm pretty sure no one has ever labeled 'playing it cool' as domestic violence, especially since you're talking about two people who aren't even dating yet. When a woman neglects her husband or a husband his wife for control in a relationship, it could be seen as some sort of psychological abuse I suppose, but otherwise it's just standard 'let them come to you and you won't seem pathetic and needy', something a man should do if his interest has started to pull back as well.

I guess I was the only woman who heard this from guys and became more interested in them. I'm curious as to when it comes up for you. For me it came up during the birth control conversation, though it seems like some people here are saying it should be during the 'Do you want kids?' conversation. Why is there a parallel being drawn between cat calling and complimenting? They aren't the same. How good a chance do you think it really is that a woman would get mad about this? I'm 27 and this is the first I've heard of it, so if a guy says he likes your dress, there's a chance he's never been told that's wrong either.

It couldn't hurt to ask them. Definitely bring all the references for your clearance to your lawyer.

How close are your neighbors? Is there anyone who could say 'There's no way he could have done that without us knowing'?

I know what you mean. I'm a huge Elvis fan, so I picked up 'Speedway Elvis'. It starts off with a lighthearted scene in which Elvis' pal has our leading lady trapped in his house and is trying to force himself on her.

As a woman, I have never been offended by a man giving me a compliment on my appearance. Unless the guy proceeds to follow me around after, I'm pretty happy with it, and it probably does put a little spring in my step. I wonder if this only applies to men? I like giving people compliments, I hope some woman wasn't frightened by my telling her I liked her shoes.

An incredibly stupid one since she did so publicly. Thank goodness she's more retarded than evil.

But she didn't just disregard your feelings, she laughed at you for having them. She is reliant on you, but she chooses to imasculate you. If you want to give her another chance it's up to you, but I doubt this will be the last time.

Dump her immediately. If she has that little respect for you, you really don't want to risk being in a relationship with her anymore.

That's insane. Zero tolerance policies are idiotic. A kid shouldn't be suspended for playing soldier. Jeez, combat play is everywhere. It's in our nature. They probably play dodge ball in gym class, which is far more violent than any form of combat play a 7 year old will think of on his own.

It does not, for example, follow that we can increase marital happiness of people who argue a lot by encouraging them to have intercourse more often--but it would be an interesting technique to try I'm not at that stage in my marriage where we fight yet, but if I get there, I will definitely try this.

Totally. I don't even understand how it got this far. What were the adoptive parents thinking? If they were the good loving people they want to act like they are, they would have said 'Sure, spring for a paternity test, if she's yours, we'll send her home.' On TV they were saying it was in the contract they signed that the father had not consented to the adoption and would likely contest it.

The degree of incapacitation required to render someone unable to provide consent varies. I can't have sex with someone who is tipsy. Our last sexual assault class named a man who got 5 years when a girl came back to his room, got on his bed, and he fingered her and had sex with her. She was conscious and alert, she never told him to stop. Your laws may be different.
/r/MensRights06/09/12 11:42 AM

A drunk woman can jump on top of a sober man and claim rape the next day. The law exists because people will consent to things drunk which they would not sober.

That's not that surprising. I've had this conversation too many times: "My X doesn't let me see my kid." "That's awful! What did the judge say?" "I haven't taken her to court."

Making jokes about rape or objectifying women "Look at the ass on that bitch", etc. Or buying records that glorify that sort of thing. Alternatively, some feminazi might have just gotten pissed at you for who knows what.

Well yeah, if you are presenting yourself as a chick then to everyone you're flashing your titties at, you're a chick. I was always told that if someone is making an attempt to look like a woman, you're supposed to assume they're a woman.

Chicks that dress like that think they are hot stuff. Someone needs to walk up to them and say "look, I'm sure you think clothes like that are fashionable, but you're not 19, isn't it time you started dressing like a grown up?"

Depending on the state though, legal intoxication is the cut off. I recently heard of a guy who got nailed for eating out a tipsy chick in his bed. I still don't know why she'd be in his bed in the first place.

But it is consistent with other laws regarding sex, like the fact that an adult can not have sex with a willing, sexually active, mature, pubescent 15 year old, or a physically and sexually mature person who is intellectually disabled.
/r/MensRights18/07/12 12:12 PM

It's to avoid someone pouring alcohol down someone's throat until they can't see straight and then taking advantage of their low inhibitions. I've heard of a woman being arrested because she went to the room of a man who had turned her down in the past when he was completely tanked.

On the one hand, I can see how this can be abused, and it really further emphasizes the importance for men to be very familiar with their sexual partners and to talk openly about birth control with them. On the other hand, while the woman is carrying a child it's harder to work, and being able to afford adequate nutrition is more important. If this shifts some responsibility away from WIC, that'd be a good thing.

It's still not covered under statutory rape, and most who are convicted under this law receive probation. I found one similar case with a teacher and his 17 year old student in Texas, however, I've been unable to find out what his penalty was.

Damn, I found a case like this in Illinois, (The first since the law was enacted in 85) but couldn't find one in Texas. The Illinois man was given with 8 years, however. They ruled 5-2 against him.
/r/MensRights04/07/12 12:59 PM

That could be because the age of consent is 17 in Texas, which was his age when the relationship started, so she couldn't be charged with rape.

I wish they were more clear about what the lewd conduct was. For instance, if he streaked in college or had some outdoor sex with his girlfriend, the judge was an idiot, but if the guy was a peeping Tom or something, I could see the logic. Of course, when the story dramatically changed, they still should have dropped it.

They're comparing 'female job class' and 'male job class', but is there any reason that a woman can't take one of these jobs which is more physically demanding and has a stronger likelihood in resulting in injury?

I just read an article explaining the division of property in the event of a break up, can't find it at the moment, but basically, dividing property is easier if you were legally married than if you just spent 10 years living together, and of course as another mentioned, there is no inheritance tax; the property of a deceased spouse simply transfers to the living spouse automatically (unless there is a will to the contrary). I believe that income tax for a couple is less than 2 individuals, but …

That's not true. Many feminists care about men's rights. Both sides need fairness and equality to prosper. If I can be a good provider, my husband can be a good stay at home parent. Equality benefits us all.

It is silly that women are seen as more nurturing and capable. I see more single income homes then average because I'm overseas, and the men overwhelmingly seem to compensate for not being at work by spending their entire day caring for their children and home instead of letting their spouse come home to a trashed apartment and a hungry child being dropped on them.

I wonder if I'm off base here (some input from dads would help) but I would imagine that narcissism and selfishness would be the opposite issue. Many fathers probably would like to be more involved, but the mother is breast feeding, or he is at work during the day, or he, as the father, is simply not treated as an important part of the child's life. His brain has reacted to the impending baby with a similar chemical reaction as in the mother, but it's been met with 'never mind, you're not import…

That's ridiculous. This school has a law program and it's teaching students this bullshit? Maybe you switch someone's class without knowing beyond a reasonable doubt, but you don't expel them and let them fend for themselves while being labeled by other universities as a sex offender without being really fucking sure.
