But I know what you really want: You’re so smart! That dumb professor was totally duped by your awesome deductive reasoning! Wow! He was slack jawed with amazement. Good job, Timmy.

Yes but you are still thinking “continuously” in terms of attraction. Let’s be explicit. Let f(a,X) be an desire function. The bigger f is, the more you like someone. a is attractiveness, X is a vector of everything else, including kindness. Let a_ be the minimal attractiveness level you (personal level) are willing to date above (you are not interested in people below this level). My claim For ai < a < a_j f(a_i, X_i) < f(a_j, X_j) for all X_i, X_j And d f(a, Xi)/ d a = 0 for all a < a (note st…

It means “pick me.” It’s just a more eloquent way of saying it. Duh /s

Well when you put in in all caps like that…
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 01:02 AM

For the 100th time: Once you are already attracted to someone, kindness and a million other things matter. I have never denied that. If that’s your claim, I don’t disagree with it.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 12:56 AM

Good for you. You have my support
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 12:16 AM

Where was I supposed to infer they were unfuckable? Obviously we have very different opinions about how the average man and woman would behave
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 12:15 AM
2

If I was attracted to both? Yes. If I was only attracted to the mean one? No.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/11/23 12:07 AM
5

That is not counter to my assertion. I’m saying a woman cannot go from unfuckable to fuckable by virtue of being nice. Likewise for a man. Men might have a low bar, but it still has to be crossed before kindness and stuff start to matter for romance and sex
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 11:55 PM
1

That’s interesting, and it may be true that men extract a strong signal from kindness, but what does that have to do with attraction? Are you saying a man would become attracted to a woman he previously wasn’t attracted to simply because she was kind?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 11:53 PM
2

See my response to your other comment. I think we just view attractiveness differently. I don’t have a precise scale in my mind. I merely have a threshold that must be crossed.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 11:00 PM

I’ve said causes multiple times in multiple comments. I chose that word for a reason. That is the crux of the issue. That is why your example doesn’t work. I am attracted to both the 9 and the 10. So you are correct: I would date the 9. I am, personally, however, not a fan of these scales. I think of an attractiveness “bar.” Once it is passed, many other variables gain importance. Below the bar, as superficial as it is, I cannot see myself allowing other, “noble,” factors moving someone over it.

Well once again… we arrive at a place where two people have different experiences. So, there is nothing to argue.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 10:45 PM
1

Do you have a source for that claim? I will concede my point if you can show me that kindness CAUSES attraction. Otherwise, it’s just an opinion like every other one on this site. What does being a professor have anything to do with it?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 10:42 PM

She has to be nice/kind and attractive. She cannot be only one or other. In particular, someone who is only kind but not attractive is not a future girlfriend. She might be a great friend, but not a romantic partner. Someone who is super hot but mean might be a one night stand or hookup. But she wouldn’t be my friend or ltr. Make sense?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 10:38 PM
5

That’s not inconsistent with what I’m saying. Do you find your fiancée attractive? If the answer is yes , then we don’t disagree
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 10:01 PM
14

Yes. And they are my friends. Not my girlfriends. When I have a girlfriend, she is nice and attractive. What so hard to see here??
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 09:50 PM
12

I don’t disagree, necessarily. If you don’t pass an attractiveness threshold, niceness will not push you over it. And that’s true for both genders.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 09:48 PM
11

You would fuck a woman because she’s really really nice?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 09:30 PM
14

I’m talking about a causal relationship. Niceness would never cause me to be attracted to someone. Everything else equal? Sure I definitely want a kind partner. But no amount of kindness is going to get me hard if I don’t find her attractive
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 09:29 PM
3

Are you replying to right person? That’s not what I said. I said kindness and goodness are non-sexual. You can be hot and kind. You can be ugly and kind. Being kind is good because it’s the “right thing to do,” not because it makes you hotter
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 09:24 PM
9

I think he’s saying the opposite: Women actively prefer mean men. I’m saying that it is orthogonal: kindness is non-sexual quality.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 09:22 PM
10

He’s saying women actively dislike kindness and men are neutral

The problem with this sub, and I am not blaming you or me or anyone else, is that now I’m going to say: In my experience, I have not seen what you have seen. And now we are stuck
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 07:51 PM
59

In the end, kindness and goodness are not sexually arousing qualities for either gender. They are qualities you would want the person you are physically attracted to to possess, but they don’t cause attraction. I pick my friends based on their goodness (and other qualities). I pick my relationships based on the same characteristics AND attraction.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 07:31 PM

OP, I’ll help you out: You’re super attractive and hot. The women are wrong. I’d fuck you.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 06:09 PM

Hard to have sources with most of the posts are unfalsifiable claims.

An observation about Reddit that is especially true on debate subs like this: I think a lot of people come here for their daily dose of intellectual validation, and that is why people are so abrasive. The personal stakes are too high. Everybody needs to chill. Coming across as smart or barely functional on Reddit has no bearing on anything. Now breathe and relax

What is your definition of a nerd? I’m actually quite curious in a general sense. I feel this is a malleable term

/r/PurplePillDebate17/11/23 12:06 AM

You’re preaching to choir (not that I’m a metal head)
/r/PurplePillDebate16/11/23 11:41 PM

Physical or personality trait that I don’t possess? Must be a symptom of being the devil
/r/PurplePillDebate16/11/23 11:36 PM

I can’t believe there are actual sincere posts about “women don’t like nice guys.” Or that post about attractive people actually being heartless. In fact, this whole sub has become one giant “revenge of the nerds” fantasy playground.

Why is foreignness even relevant? Woman likes man, man likes woman. They get together. Woman likes man, man likes different woman. She moves on or tries to “win” his affection. That’s the scenario you’re describing. Why is it different than the way dating has been before? Of course you can switch genders.

Normal sexual frequency is a wide range for me: 1-5 times per 10 days, depending on other things, such as work stress, etc. I think these questions are deeper and less simple than people realize, at least for me. The things that cause the stress that stop me from having sex, say, every day, are also the things that bring me great joy which then leads to horniness and sex and romance. In short, I don’t compartmentalize well, and I’m definitely someone who has to feel happy and good to be aroused …
/r/PurplePillDebate07/03/23 09:09 PM
1

Fair enough, but then a lot of this depends on how onerous/costly one finds the “increased standards, harder competition, etc.” If one was not bothered by that, insofar as the costs are mental and emotional, then there is no reason not to prefer a smarter/educated woman.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 09:48 PM

I think one that doesn’t get enough attention is inhibition. I’m pretty sure I read high inhibition and intelligence are positively related.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 09:06 PM
2

Why doesn’t it count? That’s an arbitrary rule. Outside of possible student debt, what are the costs, in your opinion? Edit: in fact, couldn’t we go further? If my partner satisfied my other social needs, I could expend less effort on maintaining my social life. With the same investment I’m getting a return on my romantic and non-romantic social life. Seems like a good deal to me
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 08:43 PM
1

Right. Intelligence might be positively correlated with a lot of “negative” traits
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 08:09 PM

Maybe. There does seem to be an emphasis on deference here.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 07:56 PM

No disagreement with your last sentence. I guess what I’m saying is when confronted with the question, I would think people would engage their more logical desires as well, not just their instinctive ones.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 07:51 PM
2

I think they data on matching agrees with your first paragraph, but I would have to double check. I think it’s true across other dimensions, besides intelligence and education as well. People generally match similar people. That’s why this sub seems to be an outlier in that regard.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 07:50 PM

What do they want? Because this seems to come up a lot here: If men just want sex they should get prostitutes Reply: no I want the affection/validation/etc So given point 2, I don’t think my comment is unreasonable.

My friend set the house on fire because she never removed lint from the dryer catch

Which is equally surprising
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 07:10 PM

Amazing to me how many men here claim intelligence/education is not important to them. Nothing wrong with that preference, just surprising
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 07:06 PM

I used to. It’s not an intentional harem-building plan. You meet someone (real life or app). You hook up. You meet someone else later. You hook up. That has no bearing on the previous hook up. There’s no real mechanical difference between having a rotation and dating multiple people at once. In the latter case, you cut off the others when you find someone special.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 06:11 PM

You might be right that a lot of men on here have been, for lack of a better term, stunted by their upbringing or childhood traumas.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 02:56 AM

I would define easy access to sex as, in decent sized city, you could go from no prospects on Monday morning to laid with no expectation of commitment by Sunday night With someone within your standards, etc
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 02:50 AM
2

Interesting perspective. As you can see from my other responses, I’m willing to admit I was too extreme in my characterization. However, I think your example, if we take the stories of the men at face value here, represents something they don’t have access to. Many, it seems, feel they don’t have the chance a proverbial “you” to even get to know them enough to make the Andy/Mike distinction. It never gets to that point
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 01:11 AM
2

Oh it’s fine. I should have been more clear
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 12:39 AM

I’m not as combative as most posters here… I’m beginning to notice
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 12:31 AM

I was taking what I see as the perspective of many of the frustrated men here. I wasn’t taking a stand on if their desire for easier access to casual sex is sensible or not
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 12:28 AM
3

I agree 100%. My mistake if it sounds like I don’t.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/03/23 12:25 AM

Good point! I think a lot of people’s self-perception doesn’t meet reality, and instead of adjusting that perception, they look for external explanations
/r/PurplePillDebate05/03/23 10:49 PM

As a newish poster: the bitterness and pain some people are feeling here is truly shocking. I’m not calling anyone out. I just feel bad for a lot of you. I wish I could help.

1

Maybe you should start embracing your bestial side too
/r/PurplePillDebate05/03/23 10:28 PM
6

But I don’t think it’s the only thing that matters… for example, conditional on surpassing some level of attractiveness, I believe other things matter. And I don’t buy the highly structured “rating system” people have: a 8 is always gonna be more successful than a 7, etc
/r/PurplePillDebate05/03/23 10:17 PM
17

Yes. In fact, and I don’t know what “pill” this falls under, but I think being genuinely ugly is truly what many of the men suffering in this sub have holding them back. All this jibber jabber about status/intelligence/kindness/etc is marginal at best, especially when it comes to casual sex. If you were attractive, you’d have easy-ish access to sex. If you were average-above average, you would have the rare/occasional one night stand and probably a series of relationships. I’m not trying to be m…

I’m 5’6”. I didn’t notice any difference after the phenomenon went viral. Then again, I’ve never really struggled with dating, so maybe the effect was more on the margin

I am attracted to women around my age. I always have been. Outside of that, I’ve had more fun with older women than younger, but that’s purely anecdotal
/r/PurplePillDebate04/03/23 01:18 AM

Maybe but that is swamped by other variables. For example, as someone else said, the context in which you meet someone. Unattractive woman in the bread aisle or attractive woman in the romantic cocktail bar?
