It's been a while (read: years) since I've read any of her work so it all may fare better if I give it another shot. I have read all of her works and it is precisely why I despise her... Atlas Shrugged was absolutely cringe-worthy for me. It's just something about the way she writes. So I have no qualms with Objectivism and Rand's philosophy. I actually consider myself an Objectivist of sorts. I only take issue with Rand as an author.

And besides, when did a little narcissism hurt anyone? My roommate is a confirmed sociopath with aggressively narcissistic qualities and he's one of the happiest, funniest, most-often-laid guys I know (you just have to get over and laugh off all the deeply hurtful, albeit honest, things he says).

Nothing about this says anything about not having empathy. I only see the world through my eyes (and the rest is irrelevant) because that is a true and universal fact about the world. No one is a mind reader, and to try to read minds is a fruitless and pathetic endeavor. We are all alone in our heads.
