I've been to gyms that had mostly free weights, a few benches, two and I mean TWO fucking cardio machines, a heavy bag, some calisthenics equipment and that was fucking it. Dimly lit, cold, floor looked like shit and the walls were cinderblock. These gyms are great if you can find them, usually in suburbs or industrial zones. Those of us who live in urban areas only have the trendy bullshit available because they need tons of foot traffic to pay the rent.

This is why anyone who wants to improve their life should 1. Stop watching porn and 2. Stop playing video games. You will probably never be able to have sex with a porn star or embark on an adrenaline filled heist as in a video game, but replacing the fantasy with hard work will allow you achieve much more than you would have if you just spent all your time indulging. In the end, achieving realistic goals is more satisfying than experiencing a simulation.

I am in my early twenties. I am witnessing first-hand my idealistic peers entering the real world where there are no special stars for effort. Many of them hamster their situation by blaming it on the economy- even though my province (Alberta) has the strongest economy in North America. My father was a hard-ass and taught me the value of actual hard work.

I agree. It seems like these articles, usually written by people versed in sociology rather than economics, completely ignore the effects of incentives on social phenomena. You can bet that divorce rates are higher in places that have more liberal alimony and child support laws.
