It’s not poetic, but in these niches, youth and virginity are highly prized. Divorced trad wives are going to struggle much more to remarry and/or to get a job and recover financially.

Men are over represented because they are less likely to seek 50/50 custody.

This is typically levied against men who don’t marry, though the stigma against unmarried women is worse.

What investment are men making that women aren’t? An engagement ring? If a couple chooses to have one person stay home, that’s a choice, but women are still more at risk here. Leaving the workforce makes it harder to reenter, leaving them financially dependent. Forgoing your financial independence for the relationship is much more of an investment than being the sole income earner. If they have kids, women are more likely to leave the workforce due to child care costs, but even if they don’t, ki…

Alimony, which is granted in about 10% of divorces, is usually only granted when one partner leaves the workforce for the convenience of the other, if there’s a huge discrepancy in income, or some other issue (disability) that makes it difficult for one spouse to find a job. Getting married and having kids significantly negatively affects a woman’s earning potential while benefiting her husband’s.

The vast majority of marriages are between people of the same class. Of those that aren’t, it’s typically women with college degrees marrying men without college degrees. A tiny percentage will be older, wealthier men marrying a younger sugar baby or gold digger because they benefit socially and sexually from this kind of transactional marriage.

Marriage benefits men more socially, financially and in terms of health outcomes.

People date and get to know a different side of the other person. Sometimes, those people are incompatible in a relationship, even if they were good friends. Sometimes, circumstances and timing make a relationship impossible. These people break up, and it’s usually quite painful for both. There’s no way to know if you’re compatible with someone without dating. This isn’t a unilateral waste of the break up recipient’s time. Sometimes people ignore or don’t discover incompatibility issues until af…

Most young widows are widowed through something benign like a car crash or illness. What is it like to be so happily ignorant that you have no problem filling all the gaps in your knowledge with assumptions instead of looking up statistics?

So literally stigma?

The problem is men will quite quit the marriages and not file.

Most households have two partners who work full time. Most of these suffer from a second shift problem where one partner takes on most of the housework, child care, and mental labor while working the same or a similar number of hours. In straight marriages, this is usually women. This is a problem, and honestly, leads to a number of divorces. Some households choose to have one partner leave the workforce when they have kids because of childcare costs (i.e. one person’s income is going almost ent…

You have to support your child when you’re married. How is this different? If the child is living in squalor because money isn’t being spent on them, that’s grounds for custody.

If you’re not materially and physically supporting your child 50% of the time, you should have to pay the difference

Gold diggers are rare and transparent. If both parties want a transactional marriage, that’s their right. If you don’t want a gold digger, then date women who work I similarly high earning fields or who will accept prenup.

A man choosing to marry a woman that makes significantly less is not abuse. Women are far more at risk of financial abuse.

That doesn’t pan out today, and it really never has. The vast vast vast majority of people will date and marry within their own social class. Women with degrees are more likely to marry men without one than the opposite. Sure, historically in the British peerage system, an earl may try to marry his daughters to a duke or marquess, but this is still the upper crust of society marrying the upper crust.
