Honestly you're probably right. I would recommend putting these up in poster-heavy spots only, and not on random walls.

Here OP, wheatpasting advice. For this, you will need: Wallpaper paste mix Wallpapering brush A bottle of water with one of those squirty sports lids. Posters Method: Add wallpaper paste mix to water bottle. Shake well to mix until desired consistency. Squirt paste onto desired surface. Apply poster. Brush poster flat onto surface. Add wallpaper paste over the top. Brush again to give it a light glaze. Add more posters on your route. Go around your route again. The paste will have dried slightly…

I used to do postering and one invaluable piece of information I can relay is to take a razorblade with you. Stick the poster up as usual, then slice through it with the razorblade, dozens of times, horizontally and vertically. It'll be a nightmare to tear down 'cause it'll only come down in little pieces.

It doesn't matter who was more or less wrong. There's no excuse for criminal damage, or even throwing a glass at someone. Reverse the genders. If it was a woman who threw a glass at her husband after an argument over whatever, even though she had no intent of hitting him, this sub would be telling him to leave and that she was crazy and that she had no right to throw a glass.

In modern western cultures, the decision to conceive or not rests with women, not men. So how many women do you know who can have unprotected sex but actively choose to not have the sperm impregnate her?
/r/MensRights25/10/12 05:51 PM
0

Enabling people's irresponsible decisions is a bad idea for many reasons, and it affects everyone. You're right there. Tell me again why someone should be able to have unprotected sex, conceive a child and then not have to support it?
/r/MensRights25/10/12 05:44 PM
-1

I've seen this argument crop up several times in the thread, (financial abortion will make a woman think about if she can afford a child) and every time it does it sounds horribly sinister, like a passive-aggressive way of forcing an abortion.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 05:36 PM
0

And why should someone take sole financial responsibility when both parties were required to get into that situation in the first place?
/r/MensRights25/10/12 04:21 PM
0

You're right, the car analogy is a bad metaphor. Primarily because those $200,000 are optional upgrades and not a necessity, like food, clothing and schooling. I'll try again. This is like damaging a shared Car, then leaving the other party to foot the bill on that repair and all future repairs. Optional upgrades are excluded.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 04:20 PM
3

That's a fair argument, and I thank you for taking the time to be civil, courteous and thoughtful in your response. I'm afraid I feel I am unable to reply to your post, though, as I'm coming to the end of a rather tiring work day and the other people in this thread have somewhat sapped my will to continue debating. Would you mind if I got back to you?
/r/MensRights25/10/12 04:16 PM
-1

First, where did I say sex was not acceptable? What I said was that you should have to face the consequences of having sex. For your second paragraph, you are essentially stating that a financial abortion is the same as blackmailing someone into getting a real abortion, and that's A-okay.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 04:13 PM
-1

That one's easy. You can't have a financial abortion because the child still exists. An abortion results in neither parent having to financially support the child. A financial abortion results in a single person financially supporting the child. This is unfair.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 04:11 PM
0

That's not even a comparable argument. Paying to repair a car is not the same as supporting a child you fathered. Of course you shouldn't have to pay for the upgrades, because it's not your car. This would be more akin to damaging a shared car and leaving the other person to foot the bill.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 04:09 PM
0

no one needs to have financial support Coming from a low income family I vehemently disagree with that. Next paragraph, she can choose the outcome of her pregnancy, but both parties were involved in intiating it. She shouldn't have to bear the financial weight of caring for a child alone just because both parties were irresponsible or unlucky. And I'm sorry, but having sex is a choice. Having unprotected sex is a choice. You deal with the consequences of those actions. Even if the child was an a…
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:59 PM

Agreed, but I'd change that last part to 'those that chose to initiate it,' which is better accountability. If you started something you knew would end badly, but shifted the reins to someone else, why should you get off scott free?
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:53 PM
-1

A good attempt at spin there. Well done. Either way, it sounds about as nightmarish as some irresponsible douche knocking someone up and then going 'fuck it i'm not paying for that.'
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:47 PM
0

That's a fair argument. At least in the first instance. However, in that second argument, the mans financial freedom means the loss of the womans. The man is not contributing to the upbringing of the child, and the mother has to do it all. I agree that some women use their child support irresponsibly, but the child still needs to have financial support.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:39 PM
-1

Then why cannot father's opt-out of 'future fatherhood responsibility' when the 'child' isn't actually a child, but a fetus? Because the foetus develops into a child. That would be a fine argument if the foetus stayed a foetus that required no additional support, or if the foetus was aborted and never developed into a child. That's the fundamental difference; a financial abortion doesn't mean that the kid will never be, it simply means someone else has the sole duty of looking after it.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:37 PM
-1

That's makes more sense, but the problem stil lies with the fact that giving up all responsibilities to a child is not the same as giving up a (potential) child altogether. It's not even equal to adoption, which is a stance in this debate that would be more appropriate, because this is more akin to forcing someone to raise a child on their own rather than letting someone else decide for themselves if they want to raise it. Perhaps if both parties were given the option of a financial abortion and…
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:34 PM
-2

A fair point. An inequality exists in the first place though; a woman can get pregnant, and a man can't. That's why the options are open to women more than they are to men, because it's something that a man can't go through or experience. I said it below, and i'll say it again here; the option to not support a living child is not the same as choosing to not go through with the pregnancy. The first lasts the whole of the child's life, whereas the second removes the child from the equation altoget…
/r/MensRights25/10/12 03:21 PM

A child is a child from birth only. Prior to that it is a foetus. The best interests of the child, in this case, refers only to the post birth being. Sorry, should have specified.

/r/MensRights25/10/12 02:40 PM
1

Hmm. Fair points. That's the best I could do off the top of my head, I'm afraid. As for in utero DNA tests, they do exist, but are invasive procedures at present. Needs to be developed further before it will be considered as an option.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 02:36 PM
7

I'd like to hope so.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 02:33 PM
24

Agreed. You won't find much love here though.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 02:01 PM
1

True, and again, I think both parents should be made to sign a legal document saying that this is what they both wish.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 01:51 PM
-1

I think that would be a better solution for all. Ideally, for an abortion, both parents would have to sign separate forms/contracts stating agreement to an abortion, then they would both need to be together to sign one final form. Or something similar. In the situation where one wants an abortion and the other does not, that kind of relationship is unlikely to last given the strong emotions attached to parenthood. At the birth of a child, whoever wants it should be named legal guardian, and whoe…
/r/MensRights25/10/12 01:43 PM
-5

Well it's nice that you've taken the time to be condescending. I like how you are still painting this as 'a pregnancy is unfair to a man' rather than looking at the end result and thinking 'lack of financial support is unfair to the child.' If a man is lied to or a condom is sabotaged, then yeah, there needs to be some recourse. If two people slept together without a condom, while I agree neither consented to having a child, they were both stupid enough to do it in the first place. Pregnancy is …
/r/MensRights25/10/12 01:41 PM
-1

First, thanks for actually debating my responses. Second, what if she still wants the child?
/r/MensRights25/10/12 01:28 PM
-2

Now you're being deliberately obtuse. The difference is that when a pregnancy is terminated no one has to pay for raising the child. If the pregnancy comes full term then someone is left holding the baby in the most literal sense possible. Both people responsible for it's creation need to pay for it. Yes, there are more options available to a woman, and I agree there need to be similar options for a man, but saying 'I'm not paying for it' is irresponsible. I'm all for child support being cancell…
/r/MensRights25/10/12 01:18 PM
-2

I'm not talking about men vs. women, I'm talking about what's best for the kid. Having financial support will makeit easier for the child to have a normal upbringing with only a single parent. At the end of the day, if the child is not aborted, it still exists, and that's why you should look after it. That goes for all genders. Perhaps it would be better if, in the case of parents being unable to agree to an abortion, custody defaults to the parent that wants it and the other pays child support.
/r/MensRights25/10/12 01:08 PM
-5

I want to preface the following statement by agreeing that, currently, the child support situation is unfair and that it needs reform. I really can't get behind financial abortions for a simple reason; With a normal abortion, a foetus is terminated. No one has to look after it, no extra financial costs involved. With a financial abortion, a child is still born and lives in the world. You're just shifting the burden of caring for it solely onto the mother. That's a bit of an inequality right ther…
/r/MensRights25/10/12 12:44 PM

So if you can't choose to get pregnant, how will you give pregnancy notice? Your argument is deeply, deeply flawed.
/r/MensRights24/10/12 12:57 PM
1

Okay, two things here; You can try for months and months to get pregnant with no result, and you can also get pregnant from a broken condom. You can't plan a date in in advance. You clearly don't know what an ad hominem is. So this is where our conversation ends.
/r/MensRights24/10/12 12:53 PM
1

You're right. Being fired (and thus not getting paid) and having to shell out £800+ per month plus whatever your former employers decide is fair is not going to have a negative effect. On the plus side though, you were the first one to resort to ad hominem attacks, so well done on that.
/r/MensRights24/10/12 12:43 PM

No, it reads exactly the same, only more aggressive when you read the word 'retaliate.' Either way, you're not going to change your opinion and I'm not going to change mine. Evidently though, everyone disagrees with you.
/r/MensRights24/10/12 12:16 PM

Actually that's exactly what the asker was suggestion. This retaliation may include termination of employment, and litigation to make whole the business owners. That would be the reparations.

I'll pick apart this one 'cause it's short; desertion is a punishable offence. You equate pregnancy with desertion. Therefore, desertion is a punishable offence. Edit: Being made to make reparations to a company for causing them unspecified losses for something that isn't actually an offense is a punishment. Also, if you say that giving birth costs nothing, why should someone who got pregnant be forced to make reparations?

My point is that pregnancy is purely elective, you cannot choose to never get sick, but you can choose to never get pregnant. Suggesting that people have control over whether they get pregnant is really false. They only have control over whether or not they take steps to prevent or terminate a pregnancy. That's female logic, you either consent to having a child or not, you cannot change your mind at a later time. I would suggest a woman get written confirmation beforehand. The biggest tell here …

If the costs are that high then that doesn't mean you should make other people pay for it, it means you should save up or get a better job. As if it's that easy. By your logic there should be no such thing as socialised health care, because if someone needs anything they should just 'get a better job.' I have to somewhat disagree with the answer of this question, it leaves out whether the biological father consented to having children which for me is the deciding factor as to whether or not taki…

Opinion? Guy sounds like a douche. A women must bear all costs related to her pregnancy & delivery, with no forced assistance from taxpayers, hospitals, or health insurance customers who cannot or choose not to become pregnant themselves. The issue there is that the costs of pregnancy would be sky high, and unaffordable save for the wealthy few. Child support payments from a biological father cannot be forced against his will, whether the mother chooses to notify him of the child either before o…

A fair response, and a rational and well reasoned one. Thank you. As for the judgement call, I'll admit that's a fair point. We don't know how much force was used on either side. The uppercut looked vicious, certainly, but then again the camera was aimed away from the woman when she attacked the driver, so it can't be said for sure how much force was used. I concede that point.

Yes. You're picking up on the small things individuals say, blowing them out of proportion and stomping around sulking. Or at least that's what it looks like to an outsider. MRA's look like a bunch of toddlers screaming in a store because they're not allowed a candy bar when you do this.

That's putting it concisely.

Yes, they do. However the big picture here is not 'let's point out that other people can be stupid too,' it's 'let's point out that inequalities go both ways.' And we know the best way to be taken seriously is with well constructed, well reasoned arguments, informed debates and dialogue with the opposition.

That we're petty. I'd be inclined to agree.

And miss the point of the reply entirely. I'm saying people aren't downvoting posts like that and then walking away from it to find important things to post. People are upvoting the miniscule stuff. Vilifying someone who says stupid things on twitter is not proving you're right.
/r/MensRights25/07/12 06:18 PM
9

In what possible way is saying 'hey maybe we should pay more attention to the important stuff' trolling? Yeah, you can downvote, but that stuff still gets to the front page of MR, which is the issue here. Not enough people ARE downvoting and walking off.
/r/MensRights25/07/12 06:10 PM

You'd think so but the amount of inane drivel posted that gets to the front says otherwise. If you want this to be taken seriously, you need to realise that it's not about MR showing each other stuff, it's about opening a dialogue and remaining respectful. I've seen people come onto thus sub trying to talk to various members and they just get shouted down or mocked. This is not helping.

OP, my guess is it won't stop, judging by the responses here. It seems weird that people call 'concern troll' when others say 'lets focus on relevant stuff.' I wonder if we can make an /r/MensRightsBot, like the /r/AtheismBot

1984 The Man in the High Castle Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Brave New World House Of Leaves Not sure if any of these will be well recieved, but when I was sixteen/seventeen, I read 1984 and it really changed my life. I know that's cheesy as hell but it did. Anyway, take my little list for what you will. I'm sure there're more that I've missed.

I suppose it makes sense in the context of the game. After all this is a prequel, and Kratos was a family man who and flipped his shit after Ares tricked him into murdering his wife. Doing it to avoid annoying Anita Sarkeesian is just stupid though.

I feel the same as I always have; I love that man in an ambiguously gay way. On topic though, he was commenting on how hot cosplayers looked when they dressed in those costumes to look hot.
