Right this moment she drops them off Friday after school and I have them until Sunday at 4. ... yeah. Sucks. Fighting for 50/50 (5-2-2-5 schedule) custody because 2 days a week aren't enough.

I am convinced they get a pamphlet on how to destroy lives... all women abide by the same game plan and we, being sain and rational, are stuck to deal with the worst. My ex was 15 years into our marriage, was increasingly unhappy, and right before 40 started acting like a 20 year old... staying out until 430am and then banging on the door because she lost her fucking keys. She comes in one day telling me that she got a lawyer and she could have me evicted. I got loud... she claimed she was scare…

Ok... tough love time. Have the courage of your convictions, man up, and tell her what you believe the course of action should be. If there is nothing to salvage then what's the argument. You are a young kid. Frankly, you shouldn't have gotten married in the first place. My wife called it quits 15 years into our marriage, I Have two teenage kids, and all the headaches that go along with middle age... plus my divorce. Man up and stop stringing the girl along.

Although it's not "easy" per say, your situation is much easier than most. (Take it from me... 15 years, 2 teenage kids) First and foremost, get yourself right. Instead of using try and seek some sort of counseling, start hitting the gym, and get your mindset to a point where you see yourself surviving this. Secondly, drop her like a hot rock. You are young with no ties... take that as an advantageous position. Rebuild your life and find someone that is happy being with you. You have time to do …

Don't feel bad bro, I had the exact same thing happen to me. Me... I grew up in a predominantly Republican household. I never subscribed to the whole "vote the party line" notion and have voted with the lesser of two evils. ... but I have always leaned more conservative. My STBXW will vote blue just to see how upset it will make me. It has literally gotten to the point where I won't talk about politics or even watch the news in my house because it's not worth the potential strife. I feel your pa…

This article is absolutely fact... My STBXW and I where married for 15 years and then, on a whim, she was done. She had decided the best course of action was to file for divorce and uproot my children... all without thinking about where she would go and where she would live. She was suddenly obsessed with "how much time she had left," and "living her best life." ... An aspect of her life that she didn't see me as a part of. Ok... a month into the initial shock and I started to come to terms with…

I would say both yes and no... ... someone always ends up having their feelings hurt during the process though, it's truly unavoidable. My STBXW is the one who brought up the divorce, decided to file, wanted to speed things along, and now is upset because our relationship is ending. ... yep. You heard that right. She legitimately is walking around acting heartbroken because she filed for divorce. I am mostly confused because she ends up making me feel like I made the decision and then I realize …

Feel your pain bro... 15 years married, 2 teenage kids... stbxw tells me about a month ago she is filing for divorce. Why may you ask? Because I was emotionally distant during our marriage. Yep, I was. I also was working as a Police Officer for 12 years on Graveyard Shift for 10-14 hours a night. Just happened to coincide with her 40th birthday and the statement "I don't know how much time I have left..." Yep. So now I'm having to reinvent myself being 15 years older (and wiser) but with double …

Again, let me mirror the sentiment that I am truly sorry that this is going on in your life. First and foremost, you need to accept the fact that the marriage is over. Another thing, which must be accepted, is that she probably had made this decision over a long period of time... ... you were just informed about it. Women, as I am to finding out, have stages that play out over their adult life. late 30s: They begin to feel as if they are losing themselves Early 40s: They feel as if they want to …

So... A: If she is the one bring up divorce, the relationship has been over (at least from her perspective) for some time. I know this will be hard to accept but it's something you need to do. Take your time to mourn the relationship (there is always a grieving process) and then (once the smoke clears) you need to move on. Sidebar ** Your story mirrors mine in some aspects... I met my wife when I was 19, Married at age 20, first child at 21, second at 25. I was the sole provider for 14 of our 15…

I have to agree... playing like nothing phases you is your best option. ... just be sure you don't get in a situation that she can claim DV. Also... I would attempt to record her confirming it happened and that it's not "cheating because she called it off". But that's neither here nor there. Depends on what you mean... I spent 12 years as a Police Officer; - First two on patrol; - Four on SWAT; - Two of my SWAT years were as the team medic; - Three years as a Field Training Officer; - Promoted to Sergeant; - 3rd Shift Supervisor for 3 years; - Field Training supervisor Dealt with my fair share of situations during that period of time... Have I ever deescalated situations regarding my marriage? Sure. Verbal judo does wonders... You basically use key phrases to calm the other individu…

Generally any marital assets and debts are divided in half... so you are more than likely on the hook for the 20k. With my STBX my Jeep is nearly paid off 2k left. I offered to let her have the jeep and that I would pay it off and transfer the title after payments were complete. She will be responsible for vehicle maintenance and registration costs. During the last argument we got into (after she walked in at 4 am) she told me I was lecturing her... and at the end said "ok, whatever DAD..." I about flipped my shit. I was like... no, I'm not your dad. MY kids have more fucking respect for MY house. If you want to go be 24 again, go ahead. I'm not trying to turn back time to something that I'm not. So my STBXW and I have been married for 15 years, 2 awesome kids, and she told me two weeks ago that she didn't love me anymore... I was a Police Officer for 12 of those 15 so I understand, I worked off hours, lots of OT, and I'm not the warmest when it comes to relationships... in fact I can be very cold. It's completely understandable, honestly. There is so much emotional trauma that occurs during the divorce process that just isn't recognized by "the other half". We, as men, are supposed to be able to handle everything that comes our way with minimal support... that's just not the way human beings cope with loss. We need time to process the emotions well up inside. That's why groups, such as this, are important for the mental health of our community... a community that grows exponentially with …

Without concrete evidence saying as much it wouldn't matter if they did... It's her word against his... My stbxw called my parents and accused me of having an affair, 15 years ago. ... no evidence to prove that anything happened (and it didnt), nothing to support the possibility, just her word against mine. Generally when that type of thing gets brought up its to drag someone's name through the mud.

I think the reconciliation failure rate is a solid 70% ... once the stbxw decides on divorce its simpler to accept it and move forward. I'm still in the process of learning that but thankfully my brain is catching up.

Hey there bud... I'm in Texas as well and kind of in the same boat.I have been married for 15 years, was a Peace Officer for 12 out of the 15, 2 teenage children... my wife was a SAHM and worked maybe one year out of our 15. She notified me two weeks ago that she was filing because she no longer loved me and I was emotionally unavailable during the marriage. Was the home a gift from a family member to you? If not, the house should be sold and proceeds from the sale split 50/50. If you have child…

Ok... "studies" and actual real life events are two completely different things. I was a cop for 12 years, responded to DV calls, the officers on scene have no bias in the situation what so ever. If you fail to provide relevant information in regards to the DV investigation it will be detrimental to your overall case. Also, the state files charges against the agressor... not the victim. That is regardless of whether or not the aggressor is the male or female. If the cops come to the door it is a…
/r/Divorce_Men16/08/22 05:17 PM

Its allowed or accepted because men generally don't report acts of violence because of a fear of appearing weak. The victim doesn't file charges, the state does... regardless of the sex of the victim. Call the cops, have them file reports, and have her spend a few nights in jail. Now she has a documented record of domestic violence. Your word against hers doesn't mean shit... and then you look vindictive when it comes time for court proceedings.
/r/Divorce_Men16/08/22 01:41 PM

My other concern in this situation is your children... Say she goes and smacks one of your kids. you are (in essence) teaching your kids that this kind of behavior should be tolerated when it shouldn't be. Dad just stays quiet, it must be ok. Also, by not filing charges you are displaying (to your wife) that there are no consequences for her actions. A little story for you... the first partner I ever had when I became a cop was going through a terrible divorce. He was always a great guy, never w…

My STBXW told me she wanted a divorce, I said fine... but I'm not moving. She literally looked at me and asked, "so you want me to leave my kids?!" I'm not the one who wants a divorce so make your decision... (She knows she has zero claim to the house seeing as my parents bought it and I never took it out of their names after she tried leaving once before.)

So, speaking from the perspective of a law enforcement officer, Did you report the Assault? No? ... not much you can do. If you don't report domestic violence (yep... thats what it is) immediately after the occurrence then it's as if it never happened. If you try to come back later and say... "oh, she hit me this one time," is literally putting your word against hers. The judge will ask for a copy of the report, it won't exist, and then it will reflect negatively on you... as if you are being vi…

I was a police officer for 12 years of our marriage. I admit... I spent a lot of time away from my family, working. I put the job first and that was my mistake. My wife ultimately felt unloved and unappreciated by me. I'll be the first to say it... I'm a cold individual because of my job, you are almost reprogrammed to be that way. I think that it would be very hard to prove unless there is evidence to suggest that the affair took place prior to the visa being obtained. It seems like the affair happened after she began working... that suggests it was after she got the visa because she couldn't work without it. If he cosigned... he's on the hook for 10 years. If someone else (like a family member) cosigned they are on the hook for the 10 years. It's a difficult situation because it seems like she was in it 'for the green ca…

Nope... she needs to be with the other dude then. ... file papers and wish her the best. I wouldn't be playing that game. Sir, I completely understand your predicament. I have been married for 15 years with two teenage children and was a Police Officer on the graveyard shift for 12 of the 15. (I've been married 15 years with 2 kids... my wife informed me last week that she is divorcing me) The cruel joke is that, no matter what you would do, you are damned... I don't disagree... A relationship isn't a car. You can't change the oil and expect it to run perfectly forever. Regardless, negotiation is a key factor in either route that is followed... Divorce requires negotiation but so does a relationship. Individuals negotiate to achieve an amicable outcome in the situation. If you refuse to compromise then what's the point of being in a relationship in the first place? It's not a point of contention... it's a fact. No relationship works without some comp…

That is a very good point... However, the social stigma behind masculinity also has a negative context. So, being to masculine can be a negative... but not being masculine enough is also negative. Men are in a constant status of "catch 22" (damned if you do, damned if you don't)

My belief, at this point, is that divorce is more accepted in today's culture. In the past you were expected to deal with the issues and work through them... no longer. Off-topic at best... and last time I checked geiko wasn't selling insurance to guarantee marital bliss. Did you file a report for the incident? If not, there is nothing on record proving that in fact happened. ...It would literally be your word against hers. Now, you don't file charges in a DV case... that's a common misconception.
