This post is a cope. If you can’t build a life that has potential romantic interactions outside of the dating apps you are in fact the problem.

It’s not a market.
/r/PurplePillDebate21/08/24 03:38 AM

So you talk to hear the sound of your own voice or to preach to the choir.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 10:21 PM

More likely wasn’t what I was saying. Just that promiscuity is still very much a frowned upon thing. Most people aren’t progressive or sex positive.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 10:20 PM

25 and under. I used to say 21 but I think people are having prolonged childhoods these days (not that this is bad).
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 10:09 PM

When you make a claim it’s with the tacit assumption it is worth making and that you want the other person to consider it. Without sources you’re just saying something—if you want to change the mind of anyone you are speaking to (why else would you comment?) the onus is on you. Otherwise you’re just some guy saying random things. There are lots of those.

Let’s hit that first point about having sex with the physiological response. Men can sustain an erection in terrible situations. It’s often an undesired response- completely devoid of sexual content. After all otherwise it would be impossible for male rape to occur. Given that this is a thing wouldn’t that mean that one could similarly sustain an erection for undesired sex that they’ve chosen to have? What do you think?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 10:04 PM

I have worked in mental health and tech and have a wide circle of friends. I don’t know what progressive bastion you live in but I know many women who are still very aware of these standards. Are you very young? Do most of your socializing online?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 10:00 PM

You should source these kind of claims immediately when you state them to save upheld time.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 09:59 PM

Such cultural foundations are impossible to rip up in the space of a couple generations. Most women are still sensitive to being called a slut and promiscuity is still frequently used as a way to dismiss women.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 09:58 PM

Could applying averages to demographics of people and how you behave towards them ever be harmful or counter productive?
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/24 09:56 PM

Why do you need to stereotype as broad a group as women?

What is the important fact that this theory would point to if it were true? What is a set of conditions you would accept as proving it false?

People don’t make collective decisions though. When you’re talking about why things happen on a societal or larger scale material analysis is more descriptive than moral or individual analysis. The individual framework is for individual change.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/07/24 12:04 PM

There’s a huge assumption here that parenting style or societal change is what got us into this mess when it’s pretty clear that the culprits are more tangible material conditions. The quickest ways out, the handles to this machine, are going to be changing these conditions not lifestyle projects. Things like changes in the economic makeup of the modern economy, the destruction of the classic community, the rise of algorithmic social media feeds, and dating apps are all much more profoundly inte…

Christian Nationalism is behind or attached a ton going wrong in the US right now. They’ve abetted a wannabe dictator and are still a huge part of his base. They’re largely behind the Roe ruling. The alt right simply was absorbed by the larger anti democratic movement in one form or another. Mostly via either the tradwife Christian patriarch or ethnofascist pipelines. These movements have infiltrated law enforcement and have more than a few violent militias and terrorist attacks to their name.

I highly recommend the book The Two Income Trap by Elizabeth Warren for a long form nuanced take on this but short answer is yes- and beyond that entry level jobs which led to home ownership were plentiful.

What? Why would anyone “date down emotionally”? You could just as easily frame this from the far more easily provable premise that men don’t take their mental health seriously enough. Or that men are lagging in life milestones. Why would you expect people to date men who are likely going to cause them problems? Beyond this analysis of large scale behavior like you see in the male loneliness epidemic needs to be done from an environment first perspective to get any kind of bang for your buck.

That’s wild you think that. There are plenty of conventionally attractive poly people or people in moderately open relationships. And I cannot for the life of me see where self respect comes into it. Monogamy is just one way among many to choose to pattern your relationships, not some one size fits all thing.

Average screen time is 7 hours or so a day and that’s thrown off by people who work in front of screens. Anecdotally most people I know clock about 4 on their phones. The terminal online zone is probably somewhere in the realm of 8 outside of work or 12-15 total.

Most successful abusers are exceedingly charismatic and can smell a victim from a mile away. There was a study done one sociopaths and they can identify former victims of sexual assault simply from surveillance footage of them walking through a hallways.

/r/PurplePillDebate03/05/24 03:35 PM

I sometimes think people who act like rape is worse than death are a little disrespectful to all the people who overcome it and live full lives. Almost every SA victim I know, and I’ve known many, would prefer to still be alive.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/05/24 10:10 PM

It’s a rhetorical failure though- and I say that as someone who is firmly a feminist. The initial reaction in any man who is say, dealing with loneliness caused by the fact that he literally can’t talk to women outside of dating apps without them shrinking away or outright rejecting them, is going to be to relate what they’ve seen to their own experience. Meanwhile if you so much as mention this possibility people treat it like a gotcha. Earlier yesterday I said that this whole thing feels kind …

Bro no one ever has been right by when they’ve said oh yeah if you don’t think X group thinks this check this subreddit 🤣
/r/PurplePillDebate14/04/24 02:30 PM

I’d expect someone your age not to use such a silly response as thanks for agreeing with me but beyond that The idea that you do in fact have to bring something positive to a relationship is in no way indicative of the idea that you have to compete with every other male and every memory of men. Relationships are more than just cost/benefit calculations- they have never been that for the vast majority of people.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/24 08:50 PM

Literally not what I said 🤦 How old are you?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/24 08:37 PM

Date different women if they say you have to compete with their present happy life. I have never had a woman say this to me irl ever.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/24 04:55 PM

This is different than the take that all relationships are a competition between you and every other man in the world. Of course you have to positively effect someone’s life to maintain a relationship with them. The only relationship this doesn’t apply to is maybe that between a child and their parent (which is pretty revealing IMO about the origin of this desire for unconditional love in romantic relationships people seem to have.) If you provide nothing as any kind of person you are likely a b…
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/24 04:54 PM

This is perhaps the most unhealthy attitude towards romantic relationships I’ve ever seen on here and explains a lot about the insecurities rampant in this board.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/04/24 02:28 PM

Being a “beta” or whatever has little to no correlation with how good you are at sex. It’s a skill that you can get better at and which doesn’t correlate 100% to how good looking you are. That said as many other people pointed out about the post you’re referencing- OP needs therapy. While it’s normal to have a negative reaction to the news that you’re not the best in bed it is not normal to break off an engagement and move states over it. Sex is a single facet of the relationships we build. It’s…

From a normal guy- non red pill- I know it’s maybe not as bad as the fear of physical violence but it can still feel very alienating and hurtful to be viewed as a danger by people. Like I love children but me waving at a smiling child often doesn’t get the reception I think it would get from a woman. Or just randomly talking to strangers I feel like I can only approach other men. idk there are like a bunch of little things that accumulate?

Wanted to add too that it makes the man extremely unattractive- it shows cruelty, laziness and a lack of respect if a man doesn’t pull his weight.

An observational study is a specific type of study and OP is right that it’s more important than survey data. For all we know this survey data could have very little impact on what happens in the real world. That is often the case with survey data. I’m going to look into this when I get off work to see what there is out there but dismissing OPs evidentiary demands off hand isn’t helping too change their minds, especially when they have a good point.

These aren’t the same people. A lot of abusers are very good at hiding who they are. The people here aren’t or they wouldn’t be here.

I’m glad you got something from it :) A masculinity they don’t fit into can mean a lot of things really. A big thing I see is gentle and sensitive men struggling to exist in a world where being a man is often associated with being assertive and skilled in violence. I think of this a lot with the Jordan Peterson quote I see bandied around a lot "A harmless man is not a good man. A good man is a very dangerous man who has that under voluntary control" Which is absolutely bananas. This sort of male…

The majority of people are pairing with people with similar SMVs for long term relationships imo. Women’s standards haven’t gone up necessarily but the average personality of the men around them has suffered along with a variety of other factors from economics to mental health. This means that since you can get casual sex at a swipe that these men bringing very little to the table. This is exacerbated by the existence of echo chambers for these men that actively lower their SMVs by encouraging m…

Not really- if you want to learn about a subject or organize around a subject you don’t need to constantly argue on the internet. There are other subs for that- like this one and there is actual study for that which is more effective than debates which are structured on winning and losing. Debate is not an effective tool for changing minds.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/03/24 12:47 AM
2

I mean there are spaces for performative debate and spaces where people go to discuss common interests- the two do not overlap and that’s fine. No one wants to field the same argument from the passing sea lion over and over. Especially if you have a polarizing viewpoint the same people with no lives just show up over and over to “debate”

No one would ever frame it that way in a documentary because it’s not the goal of doing these things- or rather it can’t be. The only way to undertake the work successfully is to not do it for the sake of getting laid or finding another person who’s going to somehow fix your life. You can have anxiety over these things, that’s normal, but planning your self improvement around the desires of another extremely distorts any self awareness you have immediately. It’s like starting a boating trip out …

Being high functioning won’t even get you a diagnosis in most medical circles anymore precisely because it’s not a hard set disability and there are huge leaps being made by patients as the attention towards this has grown. Clinicians hesitate to give people this diagnosis because it often hampers improvement more than it helps. A lot of developmental disorders behave similarly. The focus on relationships being transactional at all is the issue. With love you get what you want or you move on. You communicate where you want change and maybe it happens or maybe it doesn’t but you have to accept relationships on their own terms- they cannot for the most part be put through a rigorous cost benefit analysis. Less brain more heart.

I just don’t think those are common beliefs to exist in one person. I do believe women tend to have some solidarity with each other and understand better how sexism impacts them than how it impacts men.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/02/24 02:28 AM
4

These two beliefs are actually two separate camps of feminism with older second wavers believing that it’s impossible for women to have any agency- it’s not a popular belief to have. Modern feminism is pretty sex positive and it’s one of the reasons the term ‘sex worker’ had caught on like it has.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/02/24 02:07 AM

It’s common enough unfortunately.

People prefer to be approached in settings where they and the other party have a common goal or interest and where they put themselves in that setting knowing they were going to be socializing. Dating apps have become popular simply because everyone is atomized and mostly don’t have a life outside of their phone and close relationships.

I never said there was anything inherently destructive about sex- simply that the decision to breed is one that can be managed by rationality if the situation calls for it. If you will not be afforded the opportunity to breed in your lifetime that is not societies or women’s problem. You have the rational ability to limit the scope of your engagement to those things which are in your control. You have a responsibility to do so if you’re to be a moral person in this instance. You’re right- For high functioning individuals you often see a concentration in high intelligence fields like engineering and programming but there are portions of the IQ test that Autism hurts you on which would suppress your score. /r/PurplePillDebate22/02/24 01:11 PM
1

It would seem like one but it’s not so straight forward. The issue with this philosophical stance is the separation of man and by extension rationality from nature. Nature has made humans capable of rational thought. Through rationality we reach natures purpose and we arrive at the idea of individual agency. We have seen that through rationality we have also, little by little, sublimated many of humankind’s most destructive behaviors. Go back far enough and your average human was a murderous lec…

/r/PurplePillDebate21/02/24 03:15 AM
2

It’s not quite so simple. The very existence of these “negative” inheritable traits is from the greatest leap forward in evolution any species has ever had- civilization. Hominids began to care for their sick and elderly. Then humans began to self domesticate by killing violent and antisocial elements in their communities. There are a lot of negative pressures from this but they are outweighed by massive benefits gained from group cohesion and organization. Essentially development to the mind an…

And I was just trying to explain the issue with the naturalistic fallacy. You’d be surprised how often I encounter otherwise rational people who think we should defer to Evo psych for how to behave. But yeah for most people romantic relationships are extremely important.

The entire existence of civilization is us doing that. Rape? Totally natural and increases breeding. Pedophilia? It’s completely natural to breed as soon as you can procreate. Assigning causality to random factors? Positive evolutionary impact yet we are becoming less superstitious not more. This is a teleological view of purpose which assigns a “purpose” to nature. Most people’s view isn’t that nature has a purpose that we must adhere to and even if it did you could just as easily value the natural capacity for rational reasoning in humans as being above the blind breeding drive of the animal body.

/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 05:10 PM

I feel we’re probably overestimating the extent to which fathers still control this but for sure , in any case, you’d have to put in some time. I think it would help most of the folks here though anyways. A lot of people I see here are accidental nihilists who need a moral philosophy given to them because otherwise they’d default to the prominent attitudes of modern materialistic society.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 05:08 PM

That’s really weird honestly. I’ve seen it maybe five times and some of those folks aren’t even religious. Maybe it’s an American thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 05:02 PM

And you’re basing this on? I know a lot of people who have done this and a lot of folks who haven’t. If I had to guess folks who would like it (not require it) are probably like 10% of the population conservatively but I can’t find numbers so it’s really hard to shake out.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 04:52 PM

In an ultra cult like one sure. But I grew up Baptist and shuffled around a lot. Presbyterians, Baptists, and Pentecostals are all so welcoming and just the community alone would put most of the guys here at a much higher chance of partnering through shared interests.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 04:44 PM

I read the Bible and it awakened the love of Jesus in me. I joined this church looking for that.
/r/PurplePillDebate20/02/24 04:40 PM

It’s still generally expected by a lot of people. My father in law sort of hinted he would have liked me to do that and he’s a JW.

On top of this most of the men here would benefit from religion. It doesn’t even have to be a conservative church. Literally any church would fix 90% of their problems.

Objectification refers to being treated as an object by someone else- if you’re making the decision to engage in sex work you aren’t objectifying yourself. In fact you can consume pornography without objectifying a person. It’s in how you treat the sexual material.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. Have you ever actually tried to forcibly move a human being? I’ve had to corral Alzheimer’s patients and I’m a big guy, still could barely manage it. I’m like 260. Even if you knocked me out what are you going to do? Drag me? This is why cops work in large groups. Edit: the second place rule is something I’ve heard from people in law enforcement- the logic is that if you let them take you to a second place you will no longer have a chance to resist.

/r/PurplePillDebate18/02/24 09:21 PM
-1

You’re moving the goal posts here. Emotional intelligence has little to do with success in a marriage where people change over time and have a wide variety of other pressures which are likely to drive up divorce rates. The context of this entire debate has to do with how the majority of women can tell they are being lied to when betas try to pretend to be manly men.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/02/24 09:16 PM
-2

I’m speaking from an empirical basis (I can give you studies if you want)- you’re talking about anecdotes. Not to mention that sociopaths are not your average manipulators but highly intelligent attuned ones. This is like saying that men aren’t stronger than women because a female MMA fighter can kick my ass.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/02/24 07:48 PM
2

Anyone can do that to anyone- the existence of exceptions doesn’t preclude the norm. There’s a dirty of data demonstrating that women in general are more perceptive about people. They are culturally conditioned to be this way either to avoid the danger of angering men or to be better mothers and caregivers.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/02/24 07:38 PM
0

The fact that some people are fooled doesn’t change the fact that in general women are more attuned to things like facial expression and emotion. In fact half the issues with the people who post here are from them wanting to turn dating into a mechanistic transaction, indicating their low emotional intelligence.

I don’t really think anything can ever convince me because the fundamental move that red pillars make from describing general trends in romantic outcomes to using these trends to justify their current situation is NEVER warranted. You cannot min/max life and if anyone tells you you can they are trying to hurt you.

Autism is so much at the root of this and it really makes me sad as someone who didn’t get a handle on genuine socialization until I was nearly 30 due to my late life diagnosis. Everything was formulas, rules, and jargon. People were objects or puppets pulled about by strings that I was somehow free from in all of my “logical” glory. Nothing is worse for the autist than being intelligent enough to justify his lack of emotional intelligence.

Have you tried not being a misogynist is way deeper than people here are willing to understand. If you can’t purge yourself of the resentment and inability to humanize women as being the same as you then you can never properly relate. All socialization becomes stilted or disingenuous. No relationship is ever equal but is always transactional. It’s a mind virus.

The issue is thinking you HAVE to be hot in the first place. It’s a defeatist ideology. Whoa there. We’ve run into very long response territory I’ll try to pick a specific thing to reply to then let’s go from there. The first assumption is where you lose me. I didn’t “assume” that patriarchy has a major influencing force. I’ve studied the history of many of the components of it and thought about how they have changed over time. It’s a very complicated subject for certain but whether it’s your opinion that we’ve separated from historical patriarchy and it’s effects enough or whether…

I think it’s because actual parenting is viewed as an extension of domestic labor predominantly assumed by the mother. 50s dad drinks a bourbon in his study, spanks the errant child, and dispenses short nuggets of wisdom.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/24 03:09 AM
7

Domestic labor is the exchange that a house husband / wife makes for the labor value of being supported. Pay is what’s needed to survive and the providers essentially paying them in room and board. That aside because again this isn’t my point and we’re drifting. I’ve not moved any goal posts. Simply put your comparison doesn’t work- no one would say paying the bills is parenting. It’s a precondition of parenting. Fathering in parenting is seen by most people in things like dispensing practical w…

The overwhelming majority of men are not sole providers for a household. So I don’t know what that’s about. It’s certainly an expectation that you be able to keep your family safe financially but there’s only like a 8% difference between the genders in workforce participation rate and that’s even smaller than it sounds because women live longer and make up about 5% more of the retiree population. (US) Meanwhile I meet dudes all the time who have their wives doing the majority of domestic labor a…

Conventions are another good one, and hobbyist groups.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/24 02:48 AM

None of this really connects with what I’ve said. No one thinks having a job is fathering even if they think fathers should provide financially for the family more than the mother( a misandrist idea). Must folks seem to think domestic labor and handling everyone’s emotional needs is mothering, really it’s just parenting. See what I mean. One of these is a role the other is the basic thing that you have to do if you don’t want to be homeless (work)
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/24 02:46 AM

I’ve never seen a man criticized for that but also these aren’t the same thing. Wanting someone to provide for you financially is pretty much universal. I expect my SO to work unless I’m rich- most other people do regardless of gender. If you don’t want to work then you aren’t making the other person approximate the role of father because that’s not a very important part of that role anymore. The two income household is the rule for most people. Those people are just gold digging, and hey that’s…

Honestly you didn’t even approach responding to anything I’ve said here. You can’t blame broad groups of people like men or women for their actions. That’s nonsense. That’s how you talk about individuals not 50% of the population. Group behavior is a matter of historical forces. When people say patriarchy they are talking about just such a historical force.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/24 02:04 AM

It’s a common mistake people make. Individual events require individual analysis. Collective population issues require systemic solutions. One can never say that a group as broad as men or women is bad without revealing that they possess a misanthropic worldview.

The patriarchy as it’s preoccupied with power makes demands of men. In a sense it’s function demands a set of cultural values. Why it does this is actually kind of complicated I suppose right? I think it’s a sort of anxiety since being in power above someone. It means you have to mentally justify it somehow. Similar to how racists during slavery had to create reasons why black people were inferior. So you start with original old school patriarchy and as an effect you wind up with an unhealthy ma…

I defer back to the “your partner isn’t your therapist” thing. Still it’s always going to have to be judged on a case by case basis. I would say though, if you have extreme trauma you cannot reasonably expect an SO to guide you through that. The line between medical intervention and social support is blurred but I find taking full responsibility for my own mental health has always been the best case scenario.

I’m not certain how to approach this comment. I’ve never been in an abuse relationship to be clear. But I have for example been in a relationship where any mention of a girls ex put me in a bad mood. To which she said “God you’re so insecure. Grow up!” I was 20- and she was right. Was it nice? No. But people are allowed to be angry and it’s not some huge violation.

I’m glad if you’ve never encountered it but every person I’ve ever been with we’ve done this to each other to one extent or another. I’ve also seen it many times in other peoples relationships. It’s wrong- tolerance comes down to the context though. For instance without being controlling your insecurity can still end up being something which saps the fun out of a relationship, turning the SO into a free therapist. Insecure is generally used as an insult where insecurity is the primary cause for a shitty behavior. If I for instance don’t let my wife have male friends without throwing a tantrum it’s correct for her to point at my insecurity as a problem- as adults we are responsible for our own mental health.

Your issue here is the IRL bit- dating apps have an asymmetric looks based relationship because you can’t deal with intangible- it’s just butcher store window. I know plenty of dudes with tons of pull who would think they were irredeemably ugly if they used those disgusting ass apps. My brother is 5’4” and gets more ass than anyone I know. Why? He’s funny, kind, and has a vulnerability to him that attracts a certain kind of chick.

Rightfully. Point was that the use of the language of therapy is both problematic AND everywhere.

For sure- part of the issue is just current material conditions. We are part of the first generations who are experiencing declines in standards of living in the global north- the overall issue in mass shootings and stochastic terrorism in North America is a mental health one. Inceldom is just a facet of that mental health crisis. A lot of this is downstream of capitalist atomization imo. It turns everything into markets. Attention? There’s a market for that. Dating? There’s a market in the apps…

Found quite a few in the last year, most thwarted and a few successes. Texas mall shooter was active in incel forums and that was May. A broader sociological approach to the problem would link inceldom to larger pattern of online spaces used by mentally ill, often younger, men. This ties into a network of media figures and the overall mental health epidemic.

This is classic black and white thinking (autism?) There will never be a hard rule, get over it. Learn to read social cues. Life isn’t black and white. Obviously whether or not the woman you’re approaching perceives you as attractive will effect whether or not they want you to approach them. Almost no women will react well to being told they’re smoking hot by a stranger.

Conditions during a natural disaster are not indicative of anything larger than that. There’s no large scale statistical proof of what you’re saying. Women also want attractive partners. I don’t know a single person along the near 50 or so female friends I have that would say they would date a guy they aren’t attracted to. Just wanted to say that this is a great point, people act like fashion is this dumb shallow thing when it’s really an art form, one where you manage the impressions of others with a variety of signifiers some of which are extremely subtle. Left and right aren’t just political viewpoints they also have philosophies that apply to cultural change. People have the individual right to do what they want in terms of mate selection. Good point. I should have said primarily- that would have been a much better way of saying that and more exact. I’ve never said people can’t change. Humans have an immense capacity for change. However relinquishing the desire to be someone else is how we find true freedom and it allows us to become who we were meant to be rather than a pale imitation of someone we admire. It’s a journey each of us must undertake. We can paddle against the current or we can raise a sail to catch the wind.

The thing about the ‘alpha’ archetype is that it’s a dumb framing. There are no alphas. Hierarchies are localized not generalized. Any move besides trying to be a more confident, less neurotic version of yourself is a dead end. You cannot be someone else. Improving yourself starts with YOU as the base image, not an ideal you move towards. Nothing puts people off more than someone attempting to counterfeit a personality or confidence.

I don’t think anyone’s assuming that but this is a space that focuses on men’s issues with dating. Aside from the ‘mentally’ bit none of this is terribly controversial. Women do on average outperform men at a ton of mental tasks. It’s more like men have a set of cultural pressures along with a few biological features that cause them to be more physically violent on average combined with the strength advantage. You’re 33 which is not so old and experienced when you consider how much of that time you’ve spent plugged into virtual worlds or alone. You may have life experience but it’s not the kind that equips you to understand other people. You’re projecting your view of yourself on to other men. I know no shortage of men with inflated self image. That said general statements like ‘women / men are X’ are just stereotypes which don’t help anyone engage with the real world.
