At some point, sparing someone’s feelings hardly becomes worth the effort… though I can see the need in some cases when subs like r/whenwomenrefuse exist.

It can turn into a marital asset but it is not inherently a marital asset. Her mother died. He still has his and I’m sure she’d rather have the person than the money. He can cope without the money that she got from her parent dying. She’s not the asshole, and he wouldn’t be either if the shoe were on the other foot.

All things you don’t care about, you mean. You have a pre-conceived notion of what a woman “should” bring to the table and that is obvious to everyone here. Anything that a woman brings that doesn’t fit your notion of what they “should” bring is deemed to be of no value. What a self-centered and insecure way to view actual human beings. Whew. Maybe ask yourself what you bring to the table first.

I’m playing the victim by advocating for men? Make it make sense. Men are not as shallow as you may want to make them all seem. That’s all you, and trying to push your perspective as that of the whole is disingenuous and harmful to your own demographic. I’m not going to answer your question because I don’t indulge bullshit. My point has been made.

This is funny because inheritance is commonly categorized as a non-martial asset under the eyes of the law and Google is free.

Do you believe that all men only care about sex or the physical appearance of their partner? It’s an even simpler question. EDIT TO ADD: But wait. If this is your own personal priority, just say that. Own it. Just say that you don’t want an educated partner. You want to ogle her body and have sex with her whenever it pleases you. You may want her sole responsibility to be washing your underwear. You don’t care about her personal interests or ambitions. Say that. That’s your prerogative. But are …

I honestly don’t care who the post is “for,” and I don’t care to answer the question because my concern is that you’re portraying men in a terrible light here—as if they want nothing more than glorified sex toys for partners. Are you saying that all men are that superficial?

All this post did was try to paint men as slobbering animals that don’t care if their life partner brings anything to the table other than their body and the prospect of easy, guaranteed sex. This post is a bad take that does zero justice to men. Did you think about the implications of your post before you started typing or…?

The biggest factor that sticks out to me is that the girl passed from suicide. It is still highly stigmatized and you run the risk of developing suicide contagion, which could initiate a suicide cluster. Students are also a highly vulnerable population, and a susceptible person could internalize the attention placed on the girl as being a goal. From a psychology perspective, it makes sense, but I would’ve limited the time spent on the boy to ensure some measure of equivalence.

I think it’s important to specify which type of intelligence you’re referring to here. I tend to agree with the theory of multiple intelligences. It sounds like you’re talking about logical-mathematical intelligence, and to be perfectly honest with you, I don’t think it has as much impact on someone’s sex life as you might think. The type of intelligence that does is interpersonal intelligence. This is essentially your social/emotional intelligence. It is important to note that being emotionally…

There are—don’t get me wrong—a plethora of things to fight over. I’m talking about in the context of this sub, where the prevailing problem being discussed is the dating/mating system. To be honest, none of this comes up in my daily life. I’ll probably be in a different sub next week asking a different set of questions related to something else entirely. I do appreciate the analogy—I take it to be an argument against challenging the status quo. I don’t necessarily agree with it being that black …

I agree with you on the concept of masculinity. My question is centered on why we can’t challenge that concept as a society, because the system itself is broken at this point. It may take a more radical approach to break even again. With that said, I’m right with you. I love being a winner, damn it. Edit to add: flair checks out!

I’ve seen this contradiction in play. I know a man who openly stated that he wanted to be a stay at home dad when he had kids. Loves kids; spoils his niece rotten. He valued himself as something other than a provider. His goal was to contribute as a caregiver/homemaker by finding a woman who wanted to have a career. It was the other men that he worked with that would tell him, “that’s not how it’s supposed to be. You provide.” Men have been told for so long that the only contribution they can an…

It seems like the core of this idea is improving emotional intelligence. “Deeper and more meaningful” friendships—how OP phrased it—theoretically helps hone that intelligence in women who have those relationships. This is not to say that men inherently have less emotional intelligence, and that all women have it in spades. There are men and women that lack it, and they’re the most common subjects of discussion in this sub. But I digress, focusing on emotional growth would have a positive impact,…

I think that while you’re taking care of your physical health, it’s also important to take care of your mental health. Consider seeing a counselor or therapist. In any relationship (platonic or romantic) that defensiveness that you displayed is going to affect communication in a significant way (you may find yourself in a position where someone doesn’t want to bring issues up to you because you shut down and curse them out). Just consider therapy, doubly so with your history of abuse from your f…

To be honest with you, I’ve seen this argument made multiple times in this post alone. I refuse to speak for “most girls” as a “girl” myself, but men are pretty confident in their ability to speak for what “most”—or even all, if they’re really bold—women like, what they think, and what their goals are. At some point, talking to people who won’t listen and parrot the same tired answers gets boring.

I’ll be totally honest with you, that’s terrifying. I consider myself to be a relatively upstanding person—though I find it difficult to like most people—but knowing that the person (regardless of sex, really) I’ve chosen to spend my life with has considered multiple ways to ruin me if I cross him/her… that’s going to be a cloud hanging over my head. I understand it to a degree. Once burned, twice shy, etc. I can sympathize. But it doesn’t make it any less alarming.

The rule in question needs to be defined. I refuse to speak for all women—we are not a monolith—but in my region, I fall in with the majority of women that I know. What I was saying—and I’m not sure if you’re deliberately interpreting my words in bad faith—was that I was raised in a household where my parents were bigoted in a variety of ways. I chose differently, so anyone can choose differently. You do not have to internalize every kernel of shit that is spoon-fed to you without thinking about…

That may be the case for some women. It is not the case for all women. Some women are secure enough to date a man who could feasibly be “competition” or who has “more options”, some women are not. The same can be said for men. Black and white statements like those you’ve made almost never reflect reality. You’re making an argument based on emotions rather than logic. I will say that in my region of the world, the people that most commonly stigmatize men who display feminine behaviors/traits are …

It matters because if we’re going through the trouble to distinguish between categories of men, then the same needs to be done for women. Women are not a monolith. Otherwise, it can be seen as a bad faith attempt to paint a full picture with incomplete or insufficient data. Considering the subject matter, intent comes into play pretty quickly. It’s not that you’re challenging the norm or common narrative—I welcome that—but I would question all data before I reference it myself in a debate.

I didn’t see you suggesting surgeries, but I wouldn’t judge even if you were. Steroids are dangerous. Chris Benoit is the poster boy for why those are a bad idea for everyone. I think you’re right on that. Men likely are less selective in rating women than women are when rating men.

I’m mixed. I was raised by two racists who were also bigoted in a number of other ways as well. I learned to think critically because they are small-minded people who are stuck in their outdated ways and don’t care to change. That life wasn’t for me. I’ve consciously chosen to be more open-minded. It’s a big reason why I joined this sub; to engage and see how other people think about these topics.

I consider tinder/clubbing as a means to find a sexual partner, so it makes sense that educational/occupational assets don’t really come into play for most. (If they’re not digging for gold.) I have three degrees and I’m working on my fourth. I work full-time and am in the top 20th (edit: half awake) percentile for income in my local area. Most RP men would probably look at me and say I’m a bad choice because I would prioritize work/school over the relationship.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/22 06:41 AM

I think that both sexes have choices. They can go the surgical (quick) route and risk looking unnatural, or they can hit the gym (time-consuming) to obtain more natural looking gains. Genetics will always tip the scales in one way or another, for both men and woman. My take is that it’s a more even playing field than people think.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/22 06:35 AM

In my experience, men are more often mocked by their in-group (other men) than women. I’ve been in the room with a friend as he curled his lashes before a date; pulled the eyelash curler out of his gym bag. Never even occurred to me to comment. He was more concerned that he wasn’t seen by other men doing this.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/22 06:33 AM

Agreed, but the burden of time and effort is also equal. My point is that a lot of the statements I’m seeing here can and should be applied equally.

If the lipstick is his shade, I’d be fine. (Edit: as in it is flattering to him.) It has never made sense to me that makeup has been made a gendered product. Note that makeup being feminine is a relatively recent change in societal standards.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/22 06:26 AM
2

There are specific glute workouts to get your ass big. Also secondly, there are a ton of models with small tits. But, we’ve established that hitting the gym to avoid having surgical implants is too time and effort-intensive for men. Why not for women? Also, there are tons of men with little to no muscle definition that women find attractive. Why is this a valid statement for one sex but not the other?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/07/22 06:22 AM

A woman can fix her skin tone and spots with some foundation. A man can’t. But then she’s accused of catfishing and told that any man that goes out with her needs to take her swimming on the first date. Also, masculine-branded makeup products are becoming more popular. I don’t know a single woman—myself included—that would judge a man for using concealer and powder. It’s often other men that stigmatize those things.

It sounds like the statement being made is that ‘a woman can only be nice if she is romantically accessible to me.’ When extremes like “always” or “never” are involved—or “all” / “none”—it’s a dead giveaway to an argument that is based in emotion, rather than logic. This is an emotion-based argument, which isn’t inherently bad, but it is making black/white statements. There are instances when you’ve encountered a nice woman who was simply nice for niceness sake, but she wasn’t your type or she w…

That is true. I have enough (work) relationships that I could post something and get feedback from them. I figure it might be the same with strangers, but less likely. I just said I wasn’t a nice woman, why would you expect me to approach a random, ugly man to ask him anything? That’s a joke, by the way. Does that metric about women spending 90% of money differentiate between single and married? Or between women who are employed and those that are not? It seems strange that you would specify married vs. single when it comes to men but lump all women together. When presenting data, please present all of it, not just the data that supports your narrative. Cherry-picking ain’t cool.

To me, there’s a difference between masculinity and hypermasculinity. The latter places a heavy focus on posturing and exaggeration, often at the expense of others. It’s bad theater with repercussions not only for women, but for men. So I think it’s important to dissect what it means to be masculine, and what it means to cross that line into hypermasculinity.

Some of these (mostly the behavioral ones) can be legitimate turn-offs. However, I would like to understand what the difference is between conditions 9 and 18. Any “rule” in a relationship needs to be equal between partners. Otherwise, it reads rules for thee and not for me. 28 is nonsense. “Can’t really declare a major.” Really?

Hardly anyone gives a fuck about discussing what makes women “happy” in a cerebral seance, because that’s the easy part for most guys. Seconded. If I die tomorrow, I don’t want to have spent all my time and emotional energy pissed that a pretty person didn’t have sex with me.

I am very bisexual. Dating a woman instead gets more appealing by the day.

I think it’s great that we agree on the importance of loyalty as a deciding factor for relationships. I think we may continue to disagree on virginity as a metric. With that said, I really enjoyed the debate! Thank you for sharing your perspective with me.

But there are clearly differences in how attraction is expressed between individuals. It is possible to compliment someone without fetishizing them. It’s wrong that people are made to feel objectified, regardless of whether they are men or women.

It isn’t right that short men are demonized. That’s cruel. My brother is probably around 5’9 and he’s a wonderful man. My father is 5’11 and he is awful. Height isn’t a metric by which we should judge character. I agree with you here.

People—man, woman, whoever—who will fetishize each other can be together. Or they can be alone. Whatever. Like u/nemma88 said, just leave the rest of us out of it.

Everybody has to meet standards. I prefer personality over appearance or sexual history. The men I know are not wired to be shallow. Speaking of standards, have you ever heard of punctuation?

My criteria on what makes a good partner is irrelevant here. I’m more or less focused on why non-virgin men can be given the benefit of the doubt—in your words, “getting to know him and see[ing] how he Interacts with other people”—but we can’t give non-virgin women the same benefit. Any one person can either become more promiscuous or become more selective after losing their virginity. This goes for men and women. Hinging an entire potential relationship on such an unreliable metric doesn’t make…

He’s assured me that the groan was “at the absurdity of that analogy.” Direct quote! You don’t have to believe me, I promise. I’m glad we agree on how unreliable a measure virginity status is for projecting the course of an entire relationship. Some people on this thread definitely didn’t get that far in their thinking. I understand wanting a loyal partner. I think that in most cases, it’s a basic expectation for a healthy relationship. However, equating potential for loyalty to the number of se…

He was a fine guy until this moment. He bluntly expressed to me that his interest in me was solely due to the fact that I was untouched. My character did not come into play. That is what differentiates a preference from a fetish.

First, I will say that I read this reply out loud to my brother and he groaned. I’ve been talking to him to guarantee that I have a male perspective throughout. It sounds like your primary concern is emotional baggage. How might you tell physically if a woman has had sex before? Even once. Chances are you can’t. If we’re going by the logic that emotional baggage is the primary concern, you could encounter a woman who has never had sex but has a ton of attachment issues that could manifest in you…

Fellow redditor, I think we’ve reached the end of this debate. It’s clear to me that you’ve attempted to draw equivalences that even you admit aren’t really equivalences. With that said, your entire argument seems to have fallen apart. Best of luck to you in the future!

So you agree that it is possible to gain and/or lose muscle but it is impossible to regain your virginity. Yet, such significant value is being placed on a woman’s status or non-status as a virgin. So, how are these things equivalent? We can agree to disagree on body positivity. I want to re-add the context to my choice to label it as fetishization instead of preference. I was fetishized by the man I mentioned in my first comment. He did not give a single fuck who I was; he only cared that—in hi…

I think that universally, it shouldn’t matter. People are more than their sexual experiences. Men are more than their expertise in bed, and women are more than their chastity.

Maybe I’m speaking for just myself at this point, but I honestly don’t care if a man has muscles. Most that I’ve been attracted to I would characterize as squishy. Note that I’ve only specified that men who fetishize virginity are creepy. If you’re not doing that, you have nothing to be concerned about. As far as larger men being shat on, I believe they have just as much right to body positivity as women do. They are bad as fuck and should be able to flaunt it. With that said, I’m talking about …

Are men without muscles demonized or looked down upon? Are there people who love men without muscles without judging them for not having muscles? Let me be clear, I’m not saying that men with muscles aren’t fetishized by some. I’m saying that the attempt to draw an equivalence between fetishizing muscles and fetishizing virginity is failing here. Fetishizing virginity is creepy because it’s predatory. It calls to mind the idea of enjoying “barely 18” content because of the moral association with…

So they can learn and grow together as a pair. I’m talking about men that have clearly had their own sexual experiences but expect the women they pursue to be completely untouched. The double standard is unsavory, to say the least. But you already know this.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 11:18 PM

Is there some cognitive or moral association that we make with men that have muscles? Thinking of how the hymen is associated with purity and innocence… can you match that?

This is 100% of the variety that I’ve run into. It’s disconcerting. I’m not ashamed of the fact that I’m a virgin but men like that make me want to hide it.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/22 11:05 PM

Depends on why he has that policy. If it’s some fetish about deflowering the virgin, then no. If he can articulate to me that his reasons aren’t creepy as hell, then maybe. However, I’m assuming that this hypothetical relationship would end permanently if we were to separate for any reason… because he only dates virgins and I clearly wouldn’t be one on round two.

I find men who fixate on a woman’s so-called “purity” strange. So far, I’ve encountered more than a few men who have pursued me purely because I haven’t been with another man. My personality and other features don’t factor in. I’m a successful woman that’s worked my way through college to get a Master’s and I’m working on getting into a PhD program. That’s treated as a side note. I might date a man that prefers virgins if he can appreciate the other aspects of me that I bring into the relationsh…

I had a man tell me—after fucking my roommate the night before, where I could hear them—that he actually wished it were me because I was a virgin and he really liked that about me. How I hadn’t been touched before. The only thing that man could say he liked about me was the fact that my hymen was intact. I can’t imagine why one would react well to blatant fetishization. I object to the “preference” because it’s weird and creepy.

I think that historically, what we find physically attractive changes over time. The ideal woman has changed from thick to thin and back again multiple times over the last few centuries. I remember when the “dad bod” started trending. Is it still in now? I don’t know. People change. Their preferences change. Androgynous men are popular now on social media. How long will that be the case? Point is, there are a lot of possible answers to this question and I can’t guarantee you’ll be satisfied with…

I’ve been in a position of encountering both the nice guy and the cocky asshole in the span of one short period of time. I worked with both. Both were interested in me, for whatever reason. I am single by choice and I have a rule against dating coworkers. They both had aspects to their personalities that I found attractive, to be honest… but they also said iffy shit from time to time that gave me bad vibes. Looking back, I’m glad I stuck to my guns and said no. The nice guy (26) ended up going a…

I’m less interested in the control aspect and more in the emotional aspect, to be honest. It honestly comes down to what one values most, and your values appear to align. If she’s happy and you’re happy, good on both of you for finding something that has worked. I place an extremely high value on autonomy because of how I grew up. My mother was completely reliant on my father for everything, and he used that control to abuse her and me. So, I find it interesting to explore and see how this dynam…
