I thought laws of consent are born out of age demographics, hence the term 'age of the majority.' I could be wrong though.

If I understand what you mean by exploitation, I would say that's relatively rare. It's the worst case scenario, but what seems more likely is that the older guy is either somewhat insecure and that's playing into their choices in women or they're in the mind of making up for 'lost time' after a divorce. Whatever the insecurities are, I don't think necessarily means that there's gonna be harmful/abusive stuff going on. Generally, I agree that it is important to take into account what the intenti…

A lot of people apparently, which is why I decided to make this post to begin with, which was cleared by the active mods of the sub. I wanted to see if there was a different perspective on it in a sub like this compared to what I've seen elsewhere.

Stuff like this feels like the male super agency vs female agency dynamic I'd seen brought up before, where it's you get this comparison between the two where the woman always comes up short. So there's this infantilizing, like you mentioned, that you might not get if the older individual in the relationship was a woman.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but the age gap is 29 years. She is 20.

Reread the title. 29 years his junior, not 29 years old. The woman in question is 20.

That's a fair assessment. And I agree with the age equations. People say it's arbitrary but at least it's something of a guideline to follow as opposed to none at all.

Usually participants are not made aware of the intent, which reduces instances of 'gaming' them. And yeah, results can be beholden to mood or anything else transient, but how well the answers actually depict real, feelings depends on how well the questions are constructed.

Debunked how? I don't think you can debunk a methodology. Every method of measuring an abstract concept has issues. None of them are perfect. You always have to take a grain of salt regardless of what's used unless there's tons of corroboration.

Yes, actually. Critical thinking is actively discouraged on both sides of the aisle. Just one giant snake eating it's tail.

That seems to be true for the extreme ends of a number of different beliefs systems. It doesn't help that the more extreme takes get more attention as well because of their outlandish nature. Social media after all is a cycle of 'Who can I piss off the most so more people engage with my content?' It feels like this illusion we haven't caught onto yet where the most vocal appear more numerous than they are because their takes generate this kind of engagement due to their outlandish and controvers…

The study involving the implicit attitudes assessment is a better and more honest means of looking at whether or not someone who identifies as feminist holds any misandry. Explicit accounts of one's beliefs holds less weight because of the presence of bias that makes anyone asked these sort of questions not want to look a certain way.

I think it comes down to being willing to tell those stories both in our own spaces and outside of them, regardless of how they're taken, as well as being more cognizant of harassment/assault as it pertains to the male perspective.

Why would they talk about men in general when the subject of the article is men who have committed DV or display risk factors for DV? Yes, that is victim blaming. And I don't know where the last bit is coming from.

In the article itself, it noted that the focus is on building the foundations for healthy relationships by addressing the risk factors for abuse which are often childhood maltreatment/neglect. It's the same approach most professionals would apply to someone in the throes of something like borderline personality disorder. It's a well established and evidenced based approach, and I do think it would serve to help women (in the way of preventing violence), and men (in the way of preventing them fro…

All I'm asking is for people to do what they can and are willing to do. It has to start somewhere.

If this is the attitude we're gonna have, then are we just talking about Men's Issues just to whine. Why are we here? Just to bitch and moan?

June is MMM in the states. If I'm not mistaken that would make November MMM for the UK. I don't mind the idea of shining a light on this twice a year.lol

To be fair, there's only 12 months in a year and a lot of things worth talking about and giving attention. We can hold two things in our heads at the same time. It is what it is.

There is room still for different perspectives on the subject. What I'm suggesting is a bit out of the bounds of an r/ask post. It's a step beyond that. If anything, what notoriety there is can be used as a springboard to get actual useful information out there while also growing the sub and getting it's messages and various viewpoints out there.

Fuck'em. Has nothing to do with us. If people wanna complain, then complain. Doesn't mean that this isn't something worth pursuing. Besides, I am not opposed to advocating for men and men's issues purely out of spite.lol

I do wonder if that can be taught out of someone. Perhaps it depends on one's temperament. It's hard to say, but it should be noted that these are automatic responses during percieved and acute danger. It would be difficult and mostly unethical to do a straightforward study on whether freezing has a gendered basis. Maybe it does or doesn't. But I do think being able to assert yourself in a situation like I described is a virtue. Someone might not even have the intent of harm when the person on t…

To implicitly bear a greater responsibility in heterosexual relationships because of something you have no control over (in this case, being a biological male) is, on the surface, seems like a deeply unfair thing. Especially when both parties are capable of harm. This also doesn't account for individual differences as, of course, we like to paint with a broad brush. There are small men and big women. Men who don't bother with strength training and women who are powerlifters. There are meek and p…
