I thought it was a great movie, one of the best of the year. The politics in it were definitely stupid, and overly dismissive of men that face the exact same pressures as the woman monologuing described. My girlfriend and I had a brief discussion afterwards that ended with agreeing to disagree. But the bad politics and cringe monologue wasn’t enough to ruin an otherwise very fun and well made movie.

I don’t accept ‘power dynamics’ as a valid complaint when women make it, and I’m not going to when men do either.

17 is reaaaaally stretching the limit of how much I can care about this. This is the realm of technically illegal, but not morally wrong.

She wasn’t a real person. She was a character in Homers myths. Homer was an omnipotent narrator, so when he says she was the most beautiful person in the world it is true.

Helen was said to be the most beautiful woman in the world. The issue isn’t that men are now going after beautiful women, it’s that they’re calling all women beautiful.

Eh this is different. She didn't accuse a specific person in order to ruin their life. She apparently was just desperate for attention. It just sounds like she has some sort of mental disorder. She needs therapy, not prison. Or maybe a bit of both.

Mmm I dunno, I can think of another group that is held much more sacred. At least you're allowed to criticize white women.

But how is it different than saying “I don’t see why keying somebodies car deserves punishment? Just be angry then move on!” Getting cheated on causes lifelong mental and emotional trauma. Do you also think the guy in the OP was an asshole because he embarrassed her publicly? You must draw the line somewhere.

I think most reasonable people would agree that cheating is immoral. It’s also not illegal. There is no legal punishment for cheating, so if the cheater is to get any sort of punishment it has to be outside of the law. Sure, if you beat the shit out of them or total their car, that’s too much. But keying somebodies car is gonna cost them like a hundred bucks. I’m just not gonna cry a river for them.

The law doesn't determine morality. I would certainly rather be friends with somebody that keys a car over a cheater. You're right that we shouldn't encourage people to destroy property, because it could get them in legal trouble, but I'm definitely not going to consider them to be the bad person in the situation.

It’s still justified. Fuck cheaters. They are far worse than vandals.

Child support is immoral in either case. This isn’t a win.

I remember that classic part of my childhood where I punched girls in the face and then two human noodles.

Any male would have been. What she did was blatantly aggressive.

It's still stupid. It's like getting mad about googling "doctor" and pictures of dentists don't show up. Are they literally doctors? Yeah, but we both know what is commonly meant by doctor and we both know actor most commonly means man.

And she's a doubly terrible person, because the implication is she cheated on Luke and then lied and said it was rape to cover her ass.

It's certainly true in the sense that ex-convicts and especially ones convicted for rape have a very difficult time finding work again. Not really sure why being black, other than for the joke he was making, would play into it though.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
