This should be a “no fucking shit” thing but evidentially it wasn’t to me in my early 20s. The troubled girl that struggles with depression, self harm, addiction is not your pet project and cannot be fixed by you, no matter how hard you try, how much you love them or how long you’ll stick around. More than likely, you’ll just end up getting hurt because people in this situation tend to be a heavy burden everyone around them, especially if you’re someone that’s seen as a bottomless pit of support…

It sounds like your boyfriend is just a human who has blind spots and can on occasion, be an ass. It happens. Your sisters bias beliefs combined with reddits toxic “remove anyone that causes you even the slightest discomfort in life” mentality should not ruin a good thing for you.
