I guess that's a big part of what I'm getting at. The last thing you want to do as a restaurant manager is call the cops. It looks bad, it's disruptive, and then you'll need to go to court if it goes to trial. So, the only thing that would warrant calling the police is if the women were being disruptive, yet they didn't get arrested. Meanwhile, if it was the women that called the cops, why didn't the cops tell them that's a civil matter. There's just something off about this story that doesn't s…

AFAIK, from years of waiting tables and bartending, the check is everyone at the tables responsibility. Any place I've ever worked, would have worked out a deal with whoever was left at the table first. Some of the places might even have eaten the check. Past that, it should be a civil matter between whoever was at dinner together. It's rather odd the police got involved.

Job openings and graduates vs. earning power and political power of the lawyers that made it is a different story. The fact that whatever number of new lawyers are unemployed means too many lawyers being made.

12 hours in, I'm shocked at the reaction so far. Ad hominem attacks should be ignored. Our minority, (sadly a minority,) and fragmented concensus is going to take flak. In this case responding to his BS (read: ad hominem attack,) makes it worse, and puts us in the same league as NAMBLA, ( a poor ad hominem attack of my own.) Stay the course, shut up and, of course, never visit the Gawker family of sites again. I got a feeling the majority of readers of those sites are men by subject matter. This…

Though the article is one sided, this can't be overstated. This could be a cause for concern no matter what in direction the male life expectancy is going. For example, in lieu of any data in the article, let's assume the male life expectancy is going up. Traditionally male former construction workers could be unemployed long term or working less dangerous Mcjobs, hence they're not falling off roofs or getting their limbs removed from circular saws. Male life expectancy could be going up despite…

When they played here, he was making fun of specific people, making fun of our city etc. When people got hostile to that, he went after the smallest person. It was a punk show. You mess with people at a punk show, there's a good chance there's going to be a hostile response.

OK, I understand the general anger here about this and usually it would be correct. This kind of thing happens at a Screeching Weasel show because it's a punk show and Ben Weasel is genuine asshole and a bully. I saw Screeching Weasel in @'93 and this exact same thing happened except it wasn't girl but my friend, a 5' 3" Hispanic guy. He's just a coward taking it out on the smallest person possible. Of course, in '93, they were playing in condemned warehouse on the west side with no security and…

Though, I do agree with your point, there may actually be a reason for the Titanic statistic as far as the women, children part. Upper class/rich families were smaller than poor families back then much as now. Rich families were more inclined to leave their children behind when traveling unlike the poor in steerage who were mostly emigrating to the America and thus brought their children. A much higher percentage of steerage passengers died than first class. Once you factor in that large numbers…
