You think that abortion isn’t a practice that dates back to premodern times? That it’s not referenced going back thousands and thousands of years and was legal in numerous societies. I'm sorry, but that's just insanely ignorant to state that "pregnancy is the opposite of a health issue". The sad part is that this type of attitude is exactly why the US has such shockingly poor maternal outcomes. That’s some specious reasoning. Pregnancy is not viewed as a disease in the above scenario I described, it’s a healthcare/public health issue, in the same vein as contraceptive access and other women’s health services. Prohibiting abortion and just saying “well people shouldn’t have irresponsible sex” isn’t going to magically make abortions stop occurring, it will just drive it underground/internationally. 100% agree. Government prohibition of drugs has been a complete disaster. If we followed a model like Portugal with full legalization and treated it as a medical problem instead of a criminal problem we’d see a reduction in usage and improved outcomes.
