How do you do it- child support and alimony. This situation is asinine. My guess of how this happened is that child support tends to be calculated separately, post-divorce while alimony is calculated during the divorce proceedings itself. Depending on the state, there is little variation for child support amounts which is how someone can end up broke and homeless. Its a stupid, unrealistic system. What needs to change legally, is all of these things need to be calculated together. In addition to that, calculations need to be made based on … | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/04/25 03:39 PM
How do you do it- child support and alimony. How long is the alimony for? When was the child support amount determined? And have there been any changes to your situation since the child support was determined? I would definitely look into seeing if in your location if there is a way you can file your modification due to hardship. Or to appeal the child support order. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/04/25 10:29 AM
Why is it always the same story?That just sounds like a mid-life crisis. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/12/24 11:48 AM
Leaving my pregnant wifeAnd yet she fibbed how long it would take her to be fertile again. It doesn't take a genius to see this was the plan. He should have done his due diligence and that is wrong of him but why would he not trust what his partner had said? | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/12/24 01:31 PM
Leaving my pregnant wifeIf she wasn't interested in moving and knew he was happy there then she should not have tried to get pregnant. That is using a pregnancy to try to force his hand and the situation. What SHE did is incredibly selfish and short-sighted. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/12/24 01:28 PM
My brother in laws divorce settlementHe should have divorced immediately when she decided to quit her job and especially after she would back to Korea (wtf??). The longer the length of marriage the worse financial outcome. You can’t always predict someone’s actions / the future, but after those 2 events, your brother had every power to limit the damage. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/12/24 08:15 AM
Change concern orders years onDepends on how the consent order is worded. Is it “the husband will support the home until the wife’s business is back in the green” or “the husband will support the home for the next 2 years in order to give the wife more time to build her business”. Most likely it’s based on the 2 year timeline and not “whenever” the wife gets her business is the green because that could be never. Just a note, the purpose of consent orders is to finalise things so the other spouse can’t keep coming back for mo… | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/01/24 12:00 PM
Spouse says she wants to buy me out of our houseIf you have children, it could potentially affect custody agreements as courts like to keep the children's lives as stable as possible, so she would be more likely to be granted primary custody. Just more food for thought. | /r/Divorce_Men | 23/11/23 11:52 AM
I don't know what to do!Looks like Nebraska is: “Nebraska is not a 50/50 community property state. This means that a judge will determine the division of property during a divorce under equitable distribution policy and not automatically divide assets in half.” So it will depend on your wife’s salary, your salary in comparison, the assets you two have together, how long the marriage has been. Make a list of all assets you both have together and separately, bank accounts, retirement accounts, investment accounts. Determ… | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/11/23 10:13 AM
I don't know what to do!Some additional advice: Research anything and everything you can about divorce and the divorce process - particularly in your state -Learn about laws regarding how your state divides assets, child support, spousal maintenance etc. Read/watch videos about dirty divorce tricks. Be careful about what information you expose, and any emotions you expose as this can be used against you Determine what you ideally want out of a divorce, but then ask for more. Common divorce tactic is to ask for everythi… | /r/Divorce_Men | 21/11/23 10:28 PM
Am I being unreasonable?First of all, those allegations are incredibly serious, get a lawyer ASAP. They will advise you on the best way to handle those allegations. I don’t know the best way necessarily, if I were you. If I were in your position, I would not respond to texts sent at inappropriate hours until a reasonable hour the following day. This sets a boundary that she just can’t message you whenever. Also, I would download a parenting app and only communicate with her through that. She is playing dirty in this di… | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/09/23 01:40 PM
Am I screwed for the rest of my life?I would have conversations with her about what her plan is with work and a baby. Will she stay home while the baby is an infant but return to work as soon as possible? Or would she like to stay home till the child reaches school age? Don’t give your opinion initially let her state her opinion without influence of yours. If she has any hesitancy about returning to work, I’d be very careful. Even if she is adamant about going back to work, she could always change her mind. In that case, get divorc… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/08/23 02:33 PM
Am I screwed for the rest of my life?Does she have a career? Make decent money? No ambitions to become a stay-at-home whatever? Then you could probably get away relatively unscathed. If you have kids it will amplify the risk and you most certainly will owe child support unless you are able to get primary custody and she makes more than you. Even in 50/50 custody cases, whoever is the higher earner will still owe child support to attempt to balance out the incomes of both houses. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/08/23 07:30 AM
How do you mentally cope with paying alimony?Where are you located, how long have you been married and do you have any kids? Yeah, alimony is completely fucked. Unfortunately we’re still caught in this system where the higher earner is punished. Depending on circumstances, it’s about reducing the damage (either through amount or length of time) rather than completely getting rid of it. Fortunately life-time support is on the way out and more than likely it will be for a limited period while the other party “gets on their feet”. The fact th… | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/07/23 12:12 PM
Is marriage that bad?Don't marry someone with the goal to be a housewife, don't marry someone with no career goals or a really shit, low-paying job or career. If your partner were to just stop working or if you had kids and they decided to never return to employment, seriously consider divorce sooner rather than later. If you're with an unemployed partner for too long or someone who makes low wages, you'll probably end up paying spousal support so they can "continue to live the lifestyle they enjoyed during the marr… | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/06/23 07:06 AM
