It’s not arrogance if you’re confident about your actual abilities. If you’re aware of your own natural abilities and capabilities and content with where you stand, that is confidence. It’s silly to think ugly or short or poor men shouldn’t be confident because they’re ugly or short or poor. In fact, their confidence is what will distinguish them.

This implies that if one isn’t any of those things then they shouldn’t be confident. Confidence derives from the self, not any external qualities.
