That makes it even more opportunistic. The movement is already there, doesn't have to be developed. Just need to transfer ownership of user data, which is effectively what is being done by having people sign up for a new website. Regardless of whether there is monetization now, in one year, or never - that very targeted user data encompassing a strong belief system will be worth good money.

Data is money. Having a userbase is money. Collecting email addresses is worth money. Even Reddit itself has ignored profitability while focusing on growth. The new website is in the same stage. Someone owns that domain and the data on it. Even if you guys are doing it out of the goodness of your heart, at some point anyone can come along and buy all of that data for a 5 or 6-figure offer to sell targeted advertising - then place new rules on the platform. What are you going to do then?

I don't keep an active Reddit account. Regardless, you shouldn't care what I do. Denigrate me to a member of the noise for a dissenting opinion though, fair enough.

This is a pretty solid business strat. See it time and time again. Create a subreddit around an ideology, which is top of the funnel (femaledatingstrategy, nofap, trp) Build up the userbase, eventually take them off Reddit into your own funnel. That's what was done here, can clearly see monetization on the other side. Pretty hilarious. best of luck.
