What's interesting is the media had so much concern for the kidnapped girls but didn't report on the 800 boys were were KILLED in the same raid of villages. As far as I understand, all of the studies done on the amount of radiation given out by these machines (and thus the safety of said machines), were done using the dosage figures given out by the TSA. There have been no private/independent studies to confirm that the amount of radiation that the TSA says the machines give out is the actual amount given out. I'm glad I knew I had the right to do so because the TSA agent definitely didn't offer that choice up. The metal detector has been the default and then every once in awhile they'd select someone randomly to go through the scanner. In this case it was not. They had their stretchy rope thingy (that's the technical term) in front of the metal detector to stop men from going through it and they opened it only for women. You are correct in that if you request a pat down, they are obliged to do so. I requested it and it was granted.
