the article wasn't that bad, people are just sharing clips of it like 'the website had 62 million monthly views' and thinking that it means some rape academy website has 62 million views.

even so, how would the website know whether the content was staged/consensual? I assume most of it is but maybe it should be required for the person who appears unconscious to send some kind of verification.

the issue is that there's no way to verify if the porn was made ethically (consensually) or not. I'm not seeing any discussion on necessary controls on this kind of content

it's not really only 1000, that was only one group that they investigated. It's probably in the tens of thousands (but not tens of millions)

it's not the news that's the issue, it's people who are eager to be outraged at men playing a game of telephone with the headline and cropped sections. Actual mainstream news isn't reporting it because it's essentially fake news

This is why it's yes all men" "that's not true it was about 1000" "It's not about the numbers" The issue is the sensationalism and twisting the facts in order to be outraged, if it isn't about the numbers then there is no reason to misrepresent them either

why would it be half the men in 'the country' (I assume you're referring to the U.S.) when these websites can be accessed by the entire world? (except certain authoritarian ones) Seems more reasonable to go with percentage of global population, at least male population

Why wouldn't I be worried about something painting a demographic poorly when the statistics are being misrepresented? Actually, a good man WOULD be worried about people who misrepresent things.

even if 1.5% of men were capable of rape it would be highly unlikely for them all to be on this one subforum about drugging people in order to do it. That's a very specific method and rapists often aren't even that calculated and premeditated.

the issue is that people are getting outraged because of the 62 million number, if that isn't the case and it's 1000 instead there wouldn't be nearly the same amount of outrage or justifications being made for gendered prejudice. The only reason it was a headline is that it was sensationalized and misrepresented. No one would be surprised by a group of 1000 sickos on telegram existing.
