I think this needs explaining further. Lifting weights will not lead to weight loss, only a caloric deficit will lead to weight loss. So even if you're busting your ass in the gym you'll gain weight if you're eating over your TDEE. The question is loaded. 'Worshipping' any alpha is much the same, you could replace sport with just about anything. E.g. can we all agree someone worshiping alpha musicians is blue pill as fuck? Worshipping alpha movie stars? Worshiping alpha weightlifters? Etc. Etc. If you don't get anything productive from watching sports, then don't. There's a lot of grass roots level sport that provide a lot of opportunity for socialising, learning a new sport, and forming admirable ideals to aspire to.

I don't understand your point about UK politics? British politics is considerably less 'sky falls and everyone dies' than the presidential election. Especially so when you consider that the Prime Minister has a lot more control over government than a President has (given Congress). That said, New Labour did a lot to blur party lines and drag everyone to the centre. This has been reversing as of late though.

Im a fairly open and emotionally available chap, but if my SO suggested she didn't like me going to the gym/travelling for work -I'd tell her to develop some interests, I'm not her hobby. In my opinion the point of a LTR is to share your life with someone, not to become each other's lives.

These sorts of posts come up quite frequently and the advice is almost always to drop the friends. What I don't understand is that if you're willing to absorb feedback from authors, guys at the gym, Reddit, etc. -then why ignore the social cues you're getting in real life? I'm not saying kowtow to every word someone says, composure is important. But surely it's worth analysing why people react the way they do, and no true analysis would lead to the same advice every time.

Well, yeah. It's a meaningless truism that the 'right attitude' is always better than the 'wrong attitude'. And that was my point. This shouldnt be on TRP. There's /r/depression and /r/SuicideWatch where you'll get better advice, nobody telling you to change your attitude.

I'm not an expert (which is my point, nobody offering advice is), but it's consistent across all the sources I've found that the vast majority of those who commit suicide suffer from mental illness. Of course exercise and diet has been proven to decrease depression, but not always, and citing a change of 'attitude' as a way out of suicidal thoughts is wrong.

So ignorant. The vast majority (90%) of those who commit suicide have a mental health illness or substance abuse issue. It has nothing to do with attitude. In fact it's that sort of backwards thinking that drives so many people to blaming themselves for their illness, rendering suicide more likely.
