All we can see in the video is that very little, to no effort was made to deescalate the situation and that the offender was shot 3 times. Again, back up was on the scene and they were in no way in a tight or confined space. Being a cop is an inherently risky job. Having known a number of older cops, they talk a lot about the fights they used to get into, the knife cuts, etc. They seemingly were tough guys, and getting injured on the job was understood to be a likely occurrence. Not killed, but hurt. They understood their work to be a public service and measured each interaction with the public in light of the just action, needed to address the situation at hand. (She gets shot at 2:00 😂) I am inclined to think that if this 17 year old or younger, medium sized female, could not be adequately subdued, or at least neutralize the direct threat, AKA make her body spasmodically drop the knife then there would be absolutely no market for tasers. I am not saying tasers always work and guns should not be used. But in this case I think using a gun, particularly when back up was actively arriving on scene was not warranted.
