Honestly, I disagree. I think its the other way around. It seems nearly all the stories we see on a false accusation is because someone wanted revenge/cover up a problem/attention. Often feminists have a idealistic fantasy idea of consent, but I wouldn't think its so drudged in society that those kind of false accusations where the person actually, but wrongly, believes they were raped outweighs the liars and attention seekers.
/r/MensRights21/09/14 09:42 AM

Yeah you're right. Tori, the feminist did seem to have some naive idealism going on with consent as you mentioned, it seemed like she hadn't been asked those particular questions before from how she struggled to answer, but that happens to us all. There were some questions towards her which were poorly phrased but thats being live for you. JB was right that if feminism consisted of intelligent, thoughtful people like Tori it wouldn't be a problem. (or at least a very little one)

Yeah JB's MO doesn't work well with the feminist they have on. Does JB have a phd?

No. That's completely wrong. I have no interest in defending feminism. I have an interest making sure this movement remains intellectually consistent and doesn't make generalizations.

Image is vital in making it clear and easy for people to understand what we are for, what we represent and what we disagree with. I've come across some threads here which I think 'Hey, If I was a feminist seeing this I wouldn't think it was satire, it would look just like a hate movement'.

Thanks for the comment. I agree with everything you said. And there should be room for satire. You're right there is a balance there, I am worried that if satire becomes a main staple of our commentary, well to quote Descartes: 'Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they're in good company'. I think satire can be a very powerful tool when used in your example, a separate article, rather than individua…

Feminist on the other hand take that tendency and turn it against men to get whatever they put on their wish list while demonizing men as much as possible to sustain a eternal guilt trip employing the vilest negative stereotyping they can get away with. some feminists / radical feminists. 75% chance r/AMR will link to this with some sexist 'Mister made up another oppressed-male story!!one!1' title. Regardless of the story, and just sticking with the the law, I'm confident this will change (people understanding female on male rape is... rape). Be patient, and argue reasonably. People are coming around to view female-on-rape as a thing, and soon the law will change. I've noticed more and more intellectual feminists are getting more vocal when it comes to female-on-male rape. And si…

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedophilia End of 3rd paragraph: ' many child sexual abuse offenders do not meet the clinical diagnosis standards for pedophilia and these standards pertain to prepubescents.' Might ultimately be down to semantics... but worth mentioning anyhow. It also doesn't seem hard to imagine an individual who would sexually abuse a child not for their own sexual gratification, but for other evil reasons: Desire to torture, cause pain, revenge etc.
/r/MensRights22/05/14 12:41 PM

This wouldn't be pedophilia apologia, but child rape/molestation apologia. Pedophilia does not mean child rape. In fact, a child rapist doesn't mean a pedophile either. Just nitpicking :)

Yeah, listen to their cries of 'bullshit' and other insults. It's crazy. This is not an audience interested in looking at both sides. This blind anger and ad hominems and pseudo-intellectuals (like the guy who said she was using a strawman because she used one of the most basic tenets (patriarchy) as a litmus for feminism). It has so much in common with religious bigots it's frightening. And where are the feminist groups denouncing the insulting actions? None. Nada. :/

All forms of rape have the potential to be subjectively funny when used in the correct comedy medium. Stand-up comedians use rape all the time, sometimes very directly, sometimes less so. Comedy should not have any limits. Let's not be like some feminists who wish to restrict the freedom of humor because some people find it uncomfortable. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

I remember seeing the '35' false rape prosecutions. So I googled 'false rape conviction' and all the people who are convicted have anywhere between 2 and 20 false allegations behind their belt. Hardly just '35'. And that's just the people who have had a Jury decide the evidence was enough for a conviction. Unless the girl/guy directly confesses to making false allegations, it is almost impossible to prove that it was a false allegation. I have no doubt there are way way more false allegations, j…

It's important that we answer critics questions honesty. Let's not become an ideology which mocks people like some advocates of feminism do. Only by being consistent and answering truthfully can we show others that some peoples idea of us being women-hating etc are completely false.

Some men like the idea of being 'hulk', and having women swoon over them because of their body and being seen as a 'hot piece of ass', it IS their 'power fantasy'. Some men don't like it, or care and it isn't a 'power fantasy' for them. Some women like looking at these bodies, and the media responds to that (book covers etc). Some women like the idea of being hot, lean, reeking of sexiness and having men swooning over them because of their body and being seen as a 'hot piece of ass', it IS their…

Anything said by Jessica Valenti should be taken so very lightly. I brought her book 'Full Frontal Feminism' and honestly it was one of the most awful books I have ever read. It had a handful of 'sources' (including the wage gap >.<), weak arguments and spelling errors sprinkled around. She is not an intellectual, her level of academic writing is that of high school. She shouldn't even be considered anything more than a slightly glorified tumblr feminist.

"My penis was forcibly enveloped against my will." This is the issue that MRA find. That this is not called rape, but labelled 'Sexual assualt'. The whole 'Men are raped more' generally comes from if we count this as rape, and account for prison rape, are men raped more? I guess ultimately there is such a margin of error that it is a worthless statement. Perhaps it's more intellectually honest to say 'There is symmetry between the genders when it comes to rape'

Here Table 2.1 and 2.2, on page 28/29 - looking at 12 month statistics
/r/MensRights07/02/14 03:20 PM
7

I don't think you looked at the tables. Only men have the 'Made to penetrate' filled out, with the 'Rape' row not filled out. The opposite for women. Only men have this special 'sexual assault' called 'made to penetrate' that in 12 months has the same number as 12 month rapes for women. So no, it doesn't work both ways.
/r/MensRights07/02/14 02:57 PM
14

Factoring in the 'Made to penetrate' (come on, how is that not rape?) statistics, it shows men are raped more, does it not? Maybe its ultimately down to semantics.. But any time spent in the MRA world would teach someone to consider the semantics of 'rape' very carefully.

Absolutely, I should conclude: Because of how society is at the moment, for a man to get revenge, pretending to have been raped is a horribly inefficient way to go about it. Its incredibly difficult to be taken seriously. The chance that the man was truly abused seems to me, evidently high. But, as I, and many of us, would ask for sufficient evidence before making up our mind if it was a female we knew claiming the same - I will hold males I know to the same standard. As society becomes more acc…

I think the validity of male word-of-mouth accusations also comes from how the men act. I have never seen a man go around telling, no wait, celebrating his victimhood to everyone that he was raped, or sexually abused, or races to the police in confidence (and anonymity) that justice can be served. They all seem to me more concerned with how they can get proof from their rapist (such as recording a convo). There's a pervasive sense of 'I want to be believed' than 'I want to get revenge'. These fa…

This talks about how DV is pretty much equal yet academic feminists lie, manipulate and threaten to make DV seem to be a gendered crime. What about the CDC giving men a 'unique' sexual abuse called 'forced/made to penetrate'. Sounds like rape? Yeah it is, and once you accept that, rape is also equal, and possibly higher if you include prison rape. What about the notion that gender is a social construct, directly opposing evidence in evolutionary psychology and neuroscience? This is one of the mo…

Exactly. It's brilliant. These posters probably barely get men's rights any traffic, but by making a huge deal out of it and having articles written about their counter protest. They do more to boost support for MRA's than other MRA actions.

Hmm I made the other poster the OP linked, and I got some red pill moments with it. I never claimed that the poster I made should be how we primarily spread MRA awareness, but it should be one method. It simply is the only way to get the message to some people. Yes it can be seen as insulting towards some people, but others it is the red pill they need.

Sorry not to reply completely on context, but I always wondered: If a patriarchy hurts men in any kind of pervasive way then that society cannot be a patriarchy. I know a lot of people here dislike the amazing atheist, but in one of his videos he made the point that generally it's the people with money who have power, and both men and women below them suffer.

It's a valid and good analogy. You're right. And now that I think about it more, I think we should actively call out misandry / semantic violations since the people who will simply shut down when presented with a argument aren't going to be convinced anyway. Feminists who call people misogynists are pathetic. They have warped the meaning of the word to mean 'Anyone who disagrees with my particular version of feminism'. I agree that the emotional trauma of an abortion is there - which is why alongside reproductive rights, I would advocate better sex education and contraception. /r/MensRights25/05/12 01:00 PM

If we advocate an opt-out policy, then that argument becomes weak; Since I could say 'When opting out, a man only has the choice to not become a father, by default, he is to become the parent unless he opts out.' With regards to it being equality of outcome, I honestly don't see the huge dichotomy between that and the equal opportunity.

How is it not a choice to become a mother? Yes, there is a difference because the women has the child growing inside her - but her choice of abortion/adoption is STILL the choice to become the childs mother or not. Choosing to NOT have something grow in her is still the choice NOT to be a mother. Opting in/out gives the father the same choice, without infringing on the mothers rights. Yes, there is a difference, the mother has to have an abortion to opt out while the father just needs to sign/no…

When it comes to irresponsible sex, such as one night stands. If the female gets pregnant then the male still retains right to opt out. Since the option of abortion is always available to the mother, the father should have the option to opt out with (1) document in all the same situations. I've put that into the post. I'm concerned about this. Surely opt in would allow men to go around getting people pregnant with no need to fill in documentation? No consequences, with opting out, if the father cannot be found initially (I.E from a one night stand) then they are stuck with child support. And rightfully so for being irresponsible. That said, with an opt out, that also gives the male a free reign to sleep with whoever he wants and then opt out. Maybe there should be a added clause or two addressing irresponsibl…
/r/MensRights23/05/12 02:04 PM

True, but with opt-in like this, there are troubles with unexpected pregnancy - what happens then? Contraception can and does fail. I think bureaucratically and logically, a opt out is simpler and easier. There's less that can go 'wrong' and requiring extra documents. With opt-out, the 'unexpected' pregnancy are not a problem.
/r/MensRights23/05/12 01:55 PM

Absolutely, but when it comes to an abortion, I believe it's a woman's choice completely, since it is her body. This is about protecting the father financially from unwanted children. Currently, the mother has complete control on the financial situation.

My initial concern is this: Women: I want a baby: Man: So do I! Women gets pregnant. Man: Changed my mind, not going to opt in. I think either way, you will need similar documents to protect the mother/father.

Could you elaborate a little more? Esp. how it would remove the need for two documents.

I think there should be a legal form a man can sign before he impregnates someone. Basically it establishes that in the event of a pregnancy, the male will have no financial responsibility but also no parental rights to the child, unless given by the mother. I.e to protect males who don't want a baby, but the women goes ahead. Giving a man some reproductive rights. I'm pretty sure there's a huge hole there somewhere...

Don't sensationalize the title. "At this point, they're not really looking at this as a homicide, murder-type case," Hutson said. "That could change if new information were found out." With that aside, I think it's awful that, if this carer was abusing Arnold, that he spent the last period of his long life suffering under the hands of a horrible human being.

Saying the only interesting thing a women can provide is sex is not misogynistic. It is perhaps sexist, but it does not in anyway suggest hatred, contempt or aversion for women. It spells ignorance and naivety, not misogyny. Don't use misogyny as a scare word. It's lost so much meaning it's practically synonymous with 'sexist' in some circles. It's becoming a cliché.

I agree that it is likely, I just want to make the point that we shouldn't go out of our way to declare it is a feminist without hard proof. With the subreddit associating itself with us, again, probably a feminist, but it could also be a generic troll trying to fuck things up for the hell of it.

I'm happy to see that in your re-post of this, you didn't do any conclusion jumping. We should keep a watchful eye and correct the ignorance whether we can.

If you give an overview of challenges faced by men, you MUST quote sources. And don't just link the source, tell them exactly what part of the source you're referring too. It's all to easy for white knights and feminists to throw out the 'I don't believe you, you have no sources'. Give it to them straight away, give them no-where to run.

I certainly agree with you on Blackstone formulation TIL the Blackstone formulation! Are you saying that nothing short of a confession from the accuser would satisfy the 10 to 1 ratio in your mind? What sort of evidence would you accept as beyond a reasonable doubt? I didn't mean to suggest that, sorry if I wasn't clear. While I value conclusive evidence like DNA etc, I will also be convinced by the evidence you suggested (An obviously made-up story, points proven wrong, shown she lied about som…

I always stress physical evidence when it comes to the law. I think it is the most valued asset to find someone innocent or guilty (I'm sure you do too). I also agree that allegations (falling apart under scrutiny) are very likely to be false - however it is currently my philosophy that I'll rather let 10 guilty defendants get away rather than let 1 person innocently be convicted. So while I completely agree that there is evidence for (probably) many allegations, if I was on the jury, the eviden…

Since you picked only a small part of my reply to attack. I'll do the same, and much more succinctly as well. Yes, we are equal in worth because both genders fulfill a necessary function, but we are not equal in design, thus not equal in function. Equality = Equal human rights and equal treatment via the law. Doesn't matter that functionally men are better at exercise and women are better at multi-tasking. Treatment via the law and human rights should remain consistent and non-bias. You seem to …

I have a friend who has just been accused of rape - in the papers his full name is displayed, while the girls are hidden. He is afraid to go outside in his hometown as he would get in fights. I think it is also a crime here. However, it has to proven to be false - most rape allegations are unfounded and it's never known what the truth value is. Keep in mind I changed my opinion on the subject here.

I wrote a reply to this, and then another. And in the progress I will admit I changed my opinion. I think despite SOME men and women who would not confess because they would go to jail. It is key to have a sentence for all the other cases that are proven false via DNA testing, other conclusive evidence. I think it will outweigh the negatives to have a sentence. I do only think it should be years IF the defendant also spent time in prison. I'm against long prison sentences, esp. multi-decade ones…

You think it isn't important to have a good image? Yes, using words like 'cunt' to expound our ideology may be more in-line with the anger some of us feel, but it is ultimately dangerous and detrimental to what we aim for; equality between genders. Here's why. The men's rights movement doesn't exactly go out on NBC, CNN and FOX and broadcast its opinions to millions of viewers. We don't have 'head speakers' which can articulate what we all want to say beautifully. If you haven't noticed, the men…

I don't believe in 'setting an example'. The guy was held for 9 hours, it's bad that he was accused, but he didn't spend a decade in prison like some people. There's a problem with setting a sentence for false accusations, and that is that if a women lies, and knows that if she admits to lying and the guy goes free, she will go to prison. She's not going to do it. EDIT: Changed my view, look here. It's a difficult area to address, but I feel what would make a more positive difference is to have …

I just looked into this (from here) While it comes across as gendered since it starts with 'the penetration', it seems to have actually been changed to be less gendered than before. It specifics penetration but not the gender committing the penetration. It's exclusive of whether the penetration was initiated by a man or woman. This is actually great news, I can't believe I haven't seen this yet. The prior definition of rape — "the carnal knowledge of a female, forcibly and against her will" — wa…

Really? Looking on wiki: In any allegation of rape, the absence of consent to sexual intercourse on the part of the victim is critical.[4] Consent need not be expressed, and may be implied from the context and from the relationship of the parties, but the absence of objection does not of itself constitute consent. Lack of consent may result from either forcible compulsion by the perpetrator or an incapacity to consent on the part of the victim (such as persons who are asleep, intoxicated or othe…

MRAs can do the same thing, and present something that isn't a norm as one, but in my experience this is usually met with a pointing out of the fact that it isn't the norm, and it happens way way less than feminists do the same thing. I've been on /r/mensright for some time - and I have often seen someone make a post against feminism, or women in general when they don't have any ground to back it up. I looked at the comments and someone said this: [r/mensrights] operates on the premise that men are oppressed by the legislation and societal standards we have in place, which is quite backwards. Terrible injustices happen to men and women alike, but Men's Rights seems to take a lot of cases in which men have been mistreated out of context, and present them as being the "norm. What the hell?
