If by "giving up" you're talking about killing yourself, no, it's not ok. It's selfish and will condemn anyone who cares about you to a lifetime of agony and pain. It never goes away. They'll literally never get over it. As a chaplain, I've worked closely with the parents and loved ones of people who commit suicide, and the anger, guilt, and crippling despair they feel is horrible to see.
