I've never lived with a woman but I've had plenty of roommates, both messy and tidy. I don't see this as only a gendered issue. Cleanliness and tidiness standards are all over the place. For instance, there are people out there who flip out over a single item left out of place yet they haven't mopped their floor in 6 months. It's a respect and accountability issue between individuals sharing a space. Expectations for what the space should look like need to be agreed upon, communicated, and acted…

You answered it yourself, men will be critiqued on whatever car they drive. Drive what you want/need, life's too short to do anything else. I'm a man, though. I put a high priority on not having a car payment, that's worth more to me than anyone else's opinion of my car. As long as you take care of the car and keep it clean, I doubt most women would care. I wouldn't carry on with someone who cared what I drove.

Oh, I thought you meant in person. Yeah that's not cool, we'd have a talk/problems if someone did that. Using social media to air relationship problems is fucked up.

I don't take that stuff seriously. If it's teasing it's all in fun, if she's serious then it's a test. What do you mean by "post up"?

I agree. There is an illusion that it is the first when it is in fact the second- especially for men. Of course people want to believe it's the softer gentler society they've been told it is, but that won't get you anywhere for very long. Gotta work with what we have at this point.

I'm not denying the agency of women. But whether a woman stays or leaves is mostly based on the behavior of the man and his responses to the challenges she puts forth. Obviously you can't force her to do something against her will.

Yep, it doesn't always go right. If you fail enough of a women's tests, it can all come crashing down. My attitude was "you cannot lose if you do not play". Well, it didn't work all the time.

A lot of relationship problems stem from men giving in/ not keeping women in check at crucial points. In that sense, it is the man's fault. I've been there. My circle (generally) understands that it takes two, that the responsibility for the success/failure of a relationship is shared. I do not know how many of them share my opinion, although I think that they unconsciously operate under those circumstances sometimes.

"Get therapy" is tossed out so frequently as a solution. Some men do go. It's not a be-all end-all, just a reaction to the individualization of all societal ills. If you pay someone $100+ an hour to teach coping skills, say platitudes, and talk about trauma a few times you start to want to deal with life without therapy. You really think men don't go because they're afraid? How about this: they don't go because it's expensive, inconvenient, and often a waste of time and money. You're telling men…

Idk man, I just threw them into the pit with the rest and they dulled over time. Substances just made things worse. It's like grief, you hold onto a part of it forever but you have to let it fade and make room for other feelings.

I don't know if it's normal, but I feel that way sometimes. Getting nostalgic for a time when community existed and people were more outgoing, music/culture wasn't a cesspit or all pastiche, and design wasn't uninspired like today. I'm most likely thinking of a time that didn't exist. It would be nice to live in a time when people had hope that was linked with reality.

Yeah. Ever try teaching a teenage boy something? They know everything already. It isn't until they can succeed and fail some that they (maybe) will listen to others.

Right? If I were rich (or "UMC") why would I spend my precious time talking about it over there? There is very little input from working-class people, either. Seems like the upper tiers are having their own little picnic.

When it's had a devastating effect on your success, I'd say so. When have horrific trouble with something that is easy for your "friends", throughout your formative years. Gets to the point that it doesn't matter what you look like, you can't stand the sight. It's a shitty feedback loop. There's a reason it's called 'building' confidence. If you build it on sand, you're fucked every time.

Places where people used to socialize, spend time, everyone could hang out in are now shite, our cities have become Potemkin village entertainment districts that you have to have money to occupy. If you aren't wealthy you live in a decaying inner city or way out in a run-down suburb with a bunch of roommates. There is nothing but ugliness available and our spaces are now pay-to-play.

I agree that's how it should be. I feel that attempting to influence any sort of change (larger than yourself) will only bring disappointment. Rather, satisfaction will come from learning to live in the world as it is. I know it's fucked up.

I went through a similar situation, going through some terrible circumstances in the family. They feel emotions then act on them, making up the narrative in their heads that they actually reasoned their way to a conclusion and acted upon it. Can't be trusted.

The pay/hours are shite, the cost of living is cranking higher every year. I do agree, though- a lot of these dudes are way too lazy and shut-in to ever look for a job, much less try to learn a demanding trade.

A male can graduate HS, college, achieve all kinds of things- and men will still see him as a boy, or worse- a punk bitch. You have to earn your place/ prove yourself to stand among men. It's not anything defined, though. Maybe some men on the page could weigh in. I don't know what the comparison could be for women.

How is it a new world? What year did that start? Men and women both select for certain traits they are predisposed to be attracted to- same as ever. I've learned over the years to pay less attention to the words and more attention to the actions- this goes for both men and women. People can talk a big game but they will show you the truth.

Whatever. Been there done that and have the failed relationships to show for it. The moment you show weakness is the moment you're on the waitlist to get left. It's not a few shitty individuals, it's a male/female thing. Don't get it twisted, I'm not bothered that it's this way, but people should stop pushing this. Edit, elaboration: The current year doesn't really have any relevance to this. Men have a selection and range of emotions that are within acceptable norms. These include humor, excite…

Listening to what 18-24 y/o women say they want is a mistake- they do not even know, and if they did they wouldn't tell you. Better yourself in ways that you can. Do not be a doormat for these women, they will resent you because you listened to their problems. Sounds stupid, but it's true. Overall, take it easy. You're young with a lot of time to work it out. You sound like a perceptive guy, you can use that to your advantage. Do not dwell on the downsides of the situation, focus on what you can…

I think it's a net negative (for the NEET and society), a sign of a profoundly sick society. I don't place all of the blame on individual NEETs, it's societal ills and individual choices/circumstances that get them to that place. I can't imagine it's an easy life to escape, either. They must think that trying to eke out a life for themselves is futile and that society has nothing to offer them. I think a lot of people, NEET or not, feel that way- but NEETS have allowed it to stagnate their lives…

That's something that I've been thinking about since learning as a child that my cat saw color differently than I did. I haven't searched much to find research on the topic, besides reading a lot of sci-fi. I think it does make people more open understanding each other and each other's motivations. I've been told that people who take psychedelics have revelations about this sort of thing, but I've never tried them.

Alright. I realize what I said before wasn't coherent, my bad. What people call reality is based upon perception and the stories they build in their mind to explain that perception. People can agree upon what reality and perception of something is- but cannot really explain the stories in their mind built around that. Those are what makes up their individual reality. At least that's the way I've come to understand it. I've thought way too much about this and gotten it very twisted up in my head,…
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/21 04:24 AM

Definitely. I truly wonder what goes through the minds of others sometimes. Do we feel emotions the same, what do different words mean as concepts in someone else's head, etc. My jumping off point for my comment was that I was trying to determine just how locked in another person was to certain propaganda, conspiracies, so forth. Since everyone is living in their own individually constructed reality, the limits are theoretically endless. I don't know, I'm no scientist.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/21 03:31 AM
2

My first point stems from the thoughts I had living in places where the sense of place/belonging/being was either rapidly changing or had vanished. This is relatable to many people who have lived in a growing city or a dying town. Some is the same, but the meaning that the place once had is lost to those who knew it. There was no 'there' there. People's minds are greatly influenced by their environment. Some people hold onto memories with a death grip and let the past define them, while others h…

I'm just thinking too much about what goes through the heads of other people, I didn't take anything. I don't know what I'd want to take or who I'd get it from. I have a tenuous enough grip on reality as-is.

Nope, I never tried the stuff.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/02/21 01:18 AM
1

But what if there is no 'there' there anymore? How much someone lives in the matrix matters a lot in dating There is a whole world that must be locked away in the other side of their brains, for how can this be it? And the burden of proof is on the other to discover how truly tuned in that person is

Boys need to see how men interact with other men, how they interact with women, and how to conduct themselves like men. If a boy does not have enough exposure to these sorts of interactions, or if he is raised by a woman who discourages that sort of activity, it will cause him problems down the road. This is just one example. I am sure that there are traits that girls should learn from male role models ( probably similar) but I can't speak on them.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/02/21 07:08 PM
1

Other posters have described good male traits, so I'll lay out some ways that kids can learn them. There are various tactics to get kids lined up with good male role models. Some mothers put their sons in youth sports, church groups, or some other youth organization. Sometimes this gets the kid in contact with good influences, sometimes you're dealing with a bunch of shithead kids and their shithead dads. I'm not sure how well this works in the present day because these organizations have been d…

At one point I was "mysterious" and "an old soul", a few years later I'm "miserable prick". Still get invited to stuff but I'm not sure why. I still go because I enjoy it and you never know what might happen. My friends' gfs/wives don't know what to make of me, so I like that part.
