I paid for my own ring, but let my ex believe I had no idea. When my ex and I were dating, I was traveling a lot for work (making 5x his salary, I might add). Been there. Took the advice of EVERYONE and went to couples counseling (which I initiated and paid for). Had two different counselors basically tell me the same thing- it was my fault and I needed to work harder. Damn if that didn’t dig me into an even deeper hole! Please please trust yourself- that voice inside your head is truth and the only one you should trust.

Same here Fade- going through it now. I’ve also had family/friends comment things like, “You don’t seem very upset”; what they don’t know is that I was living with severe depression for the last 10 years because of his emotional abuse. I cried enough and making the decision to divorce has finally made me feel whole again.
