And the guys in the line of fire usually go out of their way to avoid injuring civilians, to the point that they take injuries and sometimes deaths to protect the civilian population.

“Let not the eyes be dry when we have lost a friend, nor let them overflow. We may weep, but we must not wail.” — Seneca. Grief and hurt are not to be ignored but to be embraced. Tears are part of embracing it. This is the stoic perspective — embrace it but don’t let it run away with you. You’ll be okay. You’re embracing it. Think of those tears as the stitches to close the wound in your heart. They begin the healing and stop the wound from growing. They’re painful but necessary. Temporary but r…

I hear ya. I’m pretty happy by myself and this isolation still getting to me. I have my daughters in my house and it’s still not the same. As for caring about rejection — it’s difficult at first, but if someone rejects me I have all the other aspects of my life that are important to me and all outweigh the rejection. By having my hobbies and family and the confidence that comes from doing things if I’m rejected I can shrug and say “No problem; I’ll go watch a movie with my kids or go back to wor…

It’s been hammered home here — work on you. With my separation I started focusing more on making myself better. Still got a long way to go but I’ve done great at work, and although it slipped lately, I dropped weight and got in better shape. I do more of what I like and succeed at — motor work, writing, building things, playing guitar, etc. What I stopped doing is caring if I was rejected. Why? Because despite my faults I’m a good and capable person. I make good money. I work hard. I am learning…

She’s stuck in the anger stage of grief. Unlike when mourning a death, she has somewhere to lash out and is unable or unwilling to move on. And she’s unwilling to consider her role in the whole thing. Glad your husband has gotten a victory. It may be small but it may be enough to force the ex to start to change.

This. A dispassionate yet empathetic outside perspective is extremely important. You’re in the weeds right now and the counselor will be your eyes to see the horizon until you can rise and see it yourself.

The dating thing is all attitude. Three rules of Steve — Be without desire. Thirsty is not attractive. Be excellent. Show that you’re a worthy person. Be gone. We only chase that which runs away.

“Men do not file for divorce. While the majority of divorce cases are still filed by women, about 30 percent of all divorce cases originate with men. This has been true for the past 100 years, despite a common belief that wives are far more likely to file than their husbands. In reality, nearly one out of three divorces is filed by the male partner.” A two to one ratio is definitely far more likely to file. This is utter ignorance.

The Instagram doe eyes are just weird af. Why do women do that? It just looks alien, as though they come from a distant world to swallow the life energy of their victims. Which actually isn’t far from the truth...

I’m forcing myself to slow down and let decisions percolate a while before acting, and in the process look at the decision’s impacts from as many angles as I can. I know logically that I don’t need to rush probably 99% of the decisions and can and should take the time to think it through. Thanks again.

Thanks; it’s much appreciated. I’m selling stuff, hobby and otherwise, and I’m back to work making good money (not quite where I was but close). Once we’re settled in the new place I’ll be back to side contracting as well. And you’re correct about the denial; I’m working through it and getting some outside help as well.

Hey, the suggestions are greatly appreciated. I’m getting checked out under the mental hood as well. I’m going to correct my attitude, habits, and behaviors.

Thank you for the reply. Part of the reason I posted here is to start owning my shit and to begin getting my ship on the right heading.

Nope, not a troll. I could show you a ton of supporting evidence, but not in a public forum.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
