fortunately, taking someone's life over petty cash isn't something you just dust off and learn from, she needs to be locked away for a long time. unfortunately the US prison system doesn't do shit to actually rehabilitate or help prisoners and mostly just hardens them and makes them more likely to return if they ever leave.
