This is the issue I am highlighting with empirical approaches to these kind of fundamental social questions, regarding how ubiquitous social identities like gender develop in the first place. There aren't easy ways to establish uncontroversial metrics and disentangle all the impinging variables. Any data for/against my position needs to be pored over very carefully. We can't naively pose these questions.

I am basing my post only on my own experiences and observations. Consider it a hypothesis rather than a theory. There seems to be a body of literature which observes social differences between men and women, but that doesn't necessarily explain the causes of those differences.
