Financial ruin (divorce) vs. Wasted life (stay)The kids man... that's where I'm hung up. In my case, a lot has changed about our situation to where I think it is worth revisiting the relationship, and primarily for the kids. I had turned to quite the alcoholic, lost my will to live and love, and once she gave up I had even less fight in me for the future. Now that I've turned that around over 9 months ago, she's still stonewalling and unwilling to address her resentment. I have my doubts too, but seems like a worthwhile experiment for the ki… | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/24 03:16 AM
Financial ruin (divorce) vs. Wasted life (stay)Good insight. I was the first to stop -- largely due to my own alcohol abuse, and doubt about the marriage in the first place. As she "ended the love", I got even worse as all I saw was nothing worth saving or fighting for. Now, 9 months sober, I'm ready to "love" again and in ways I don't think I was ever capable of before -- but she's done. Maybe it is all ideation on my behalf, or I'm just lonely -- but my desire to share my life with someone is insurmountable. Similar to OP, I'm also deeply … | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/24 03:06 AM
It’s not what you thinkA wise man... wish I had your sense. I'm still deep in the throes of divorce right now. 13 years together, 9 married. | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/24 02:53 AM
It’s not what you thinkSecular. Our officiant was one of my best friends, who is a minister of "The Universal Life Church", and we rented out a non-religious venue downtown. | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/24 02:52 AM
It’s not what you thinkSame. As a recovering addict, I was thinking "higher power"... ok... I have my own concept of "something bigger than man". Then the ministry and "God hates divorce" came around and I checked out. But, to each their own! Glad OP is healthier and feeling better! | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/09/24 09:53 PM

When do I stop wearing my ringRight. I don't see how people can take the risk of divorce that comes with marriage after going through it once. I miss intimacy and being affectionate like none other, but I hate divorce even more. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/08/24 04:46 AM
When do I stop wearing my ringInteresting. Not sure how anyone could want to marry after a divorce kind of ruins the whole concept. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/08/24 08:22 PM
When do I stop wearing my ringIn most jurisdictions I know of: it is considered a "gift" and is not part of marital property. | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/08/24 08:17 PM
Shopaholic STBXW and spousal supportI specifically asked about proving standard of living. As to why the delay, while yes: more time = more alimony or debt. However, I had fallen into a bad depression and alcoholism throughout the whole ordeal lasting many years. This of course helped fuel her massive spending, but she is ill to begin with as well. It got to the point, even though I love my kids with all my heart, I was largely absent in their lives, became verbally abusive with my wife, etc. It would be very easy to say that I'd … | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/08/24 01:45 PM
Shopaholic STBXW and spousal support"Gearing up" as in we are currently in a bit of a holding pattern. She filed, and there hasn't been motion. As to why the delay, while yes: more time = more alimony. However, I prefaced the post in asking what I can do about the debt (which I figured not much), but more importantly: establishing fair standard of living. However, I had fallen into a bad depression and alcoholism throughout the whole ordeal lasting many years. To the point, even though I love my kids with all my heart, I was large… | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/08/24 01:38 PM
Shopaholic STBXW and spousal supportYes. I have everything in my own deposit account. Access to all credit cards is gone. We have one joint account I use for providing spending money. Yes, I have a lawyer, but also appreciate input from the internet people. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/08/24 01:05 PM

Low income family ,Washington state, about to be divorcedThat's basically what my "I am a lawyer" told me. The way I see it is: all these assets and debts are communal by this point, so there is no comingling; My W/STBXW and I setup the account for this purpose; it shouldn't hurt, but only help, my bottom line due to reducing interest paid, simplifying payments, credit score as no accounts will be maxed out. We might not even go through with the divorce, that's its own story, but I'm just letting it play out for a few months and not letting it consume… | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/08/24 01:04 PM
Low income family ,Washington state, about to be divorcedOk, that makes sense, I think. But for something concrete here: we have credit card debt, and it is clearly community/marital debt. Which, as you would guess, she largely racked up, but that doesn't really matter. We have a HELOC which is borrowed against our marital property (the family home). What would be the concern, if any, by moving the debt from the cards to the HELOC as it is has a much lower interest rate? | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/08/24 04:16 AM
Low income family ,Washington state, about to be divorcedThe "don't pay down communal debts" thing is something I don't understand. If the debts and assets are split 50/50, then what does it matter if you get less debt or more assets? If anything, you'd be paying less interest during the divorce process. Thanks | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/08/24 12:14 AM
