1	On Stable Hypergamous Societies I'll admit, the word has also been used to refer to celibate/impotent men, thus diluting its historical meaning. I also don't doubt that it referred to positions of power. Like I said in the post, eunuchs were often given important and influential roles in society. This still begs the question of where the association (or, in your view, conflation) came from. After all, "powerful" and "physically impotent" don't seem to match.
