I think it’s similar to drug culture. Drugs are great for awhile, but the hobby-becomes a habit-becomes a necessity. I used to work with kids, and if young boys don’t have a solid male role model in the house during the major formative years... it’s usually fucking over for them. It’s not their fault they grew up in a single mother household, but they’re sure going to pay for it. Poor kids almost always end up with substance abuse problems, jail is a close second.
