I've been to GenCon a few times and didn't really pay attention to panels and stuff. Just play tested custom games all day. Hopefully this kind of shit won't have a widespread effect on the nerd gaming industry as a whole, even if GenCon does get fully corrupted. OP is on the money here. I started out thinking I needed IOIs to keep the interaction going but in reality, looking for IOIs and IODs is extremely advanced strategy and was my biggest hindrance to improvement.
