When someone tells me, “You should go see this,” for some social reason (and not because they know I’d LIKE it), it makes me not want to see it. It’s why I haven’t seen any of the Hunger Games movies. It’s why I haven’t watched Game of Thrones. It literally has the opposite effect.

It sucks. My gender has an untoward amount of crazy in it.

I was just telling my husband yesterday that it pisses me off there isn’t a safe space for men to air their grievances. I saw a post on the ask men sub yesterday about a guy with a dead bedroom. Talked to his wife, things got better for two years, then she went back to it. He had already warned her divorce was imminent. An hour later, that same post had been reposted to the Am I the Angel sub and another sub - making fun of the guy and saying he didn’t care to figure out how his wife was feeling…

What they really want to do—and I’ve been saying this for a decade—is eliminate the age of consent. They want to sneakily make pedophilia legal. This is just a first step.

Men have to be the protectors of everything. They have to be strong and show no emotion, or they’re “pussy” or “girly.” Men aren’t given space to show their emotions. It sucks.

It’s totally dehumanizing. And it’s not fair that women can just say untrue shit about men like it’s required of them. But if a man says something slightly disparaging, he gets canceled. I’m sick of the double standard. It’s never been a privilege for me.

I still don’t understand this concept as a woman. I can kill a man. I can’t kill a bear. These people are delusional.

That’s why I’m an MRA. Other women sometimes get angry, but I have my personal reasons. Having interviewed and patronized women-owned businesses, I can tell you they are toxic, competitive environments.

No, masturbation isn’t immoral, because there’s very, very little chance that will end in pregnancy. That’s why masturbation is a form of abstinence. So you don’t get pregnant. And, no, a woman shouldn’t be kept pregnant. I have no idea where that’s coming from as I never insinuated it. Both parties should take responsibility for their actions and protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy as best they can.

That Q-tip isn’t going to go on to likely live a full life, either, so, no. It doesn’t need a passport.

They may not have them, but that DNA is there for it all immediately. It's an entire line of what that human will be in their lives. The human genome forms 12 hours post-conception.

Me: "How can it be about equality if the literal name is Feminism?" Feminist: "Men have more rights/Women have been oppressed/Women make less money/Women aren't equal yet." Me: "I'm a Men's Rights Activist." Feminist: "OMG HOW COULD YOU BE SUCH A TRAITOR! THAT'S SEXIST!" Does not compute.

Welcome! I'm a female MRA. Toxic women who only use men as a trophy or decoration are disgusting. I'm sorry you went through that.

It's like they aren't even taking PPD into consideration. A temporary state of depression. There's a reason people say not to make a big decision within a year of having a kid.

That legislators, most of whom are men, shouldn't be telling women what to do with their bodies. The thing is, I don't see it as men telling women what to do with their bodies. I see it as men telling women what they can do with his own child.

The article also said (correct me if I'm wrong) that if a woman's mental health were impaired that only one doctor's recommendation of late-term abortion would do the trick.

Killing a defenseless baby? Now that is low. The fact that some of these women (Michelle Wolf) say that it "empowers" them is scary as hell. It empowers you to murder? Who are you and why do you have a career?

I went to the West Coast Walk for Life and there was so much talk about the fathers. It was refreshing to hear about their stories and see how it affects them as well. As a woman, I really, really appreciate what men do for me and the world.

Women don’t know what it’s like to be a man. Why would we abide by their thoughts on “positive” masculinity? Freaking this! I'm a woman and I don't pretend to know what it's like to be a man. I've been a tomboy my entire life and I tend to get along better with men (I know that sounds like a cliche). I even wrote a book from a male's perspective. But never, in a million years, can I imagine what it's like. If I could experience it for a day just so I could empathize, I absolutely would. Just exp…

I was at Kamala Harris's campaign rally in Oakland and I saw a guy standing with his significant other. They were both wearing pussy hats. My comment to my husband: "Welp, we know who wears the pants in that relationship!"

Good, solid point on surface values. "However, she asked her son to be nice, applying her subjective standard. The husband advised his son to focus on being empathetic which would lead to him being nice." A lot of parents when I was growing up and even more so today are focused more on keeping their children safe than smart or independent. My parents, for instance, never taught me social skills. They recognized I was shy and perpetuated it, telling me it was okay to be shy. They showered me with…

I'd make a complaint. It's not appropriate behavior for a teacher, and it should be brought to her attention so it doesn't happen again. That being said, be prepared for both outcomes. Either she'll change/they'll get rid of her, or she'll single your son out and bully him because she's mad at you.

I went to the West Coast Walk for Life. A group of peaceful Sudanese protesters were also trying to bring to our attention that Sudan is basically in a dictatorship. Militia are gunning down peaceful (mostly male) protesters in the streets and their own homes. No one's talking about it.

You must be really fun at parties! To make things clear, I don't mind the phrase I understand. So if you're trying to hurt my feelings or something, it kind of fell short.

Words are confusing and we can bend them to mean anything we want. I believe I could feel both simultaneously without agreeing. For instance, if a person was set on a "white privilege" tirade, and they shared stories of why they believed in it, I could choose to radically accept the situation and be both sympathetic and put myself in their shoes while still not agreeing that white privilege is a thing.

I'm not clear how one can share the feelings of another without agreeing with them. You can understand that someone has had rough times. You can even comprehend their feelings during those times if you've experienced the same type of situation. For instance, if your parents were abusive and you were telling me that story, I could both sympathize and empathize with you, because, while my parents weren't abusive, I was in a relationship that was.

Empathize means: "understand and share the feelings of another." I can certainly share feelings even though I've never been in a particular situation. Sympathize means: "agree with a sentiment or opinion." I do agree that many women have lied about situations to get what they want. It's something I've done before. I don't think it's fair in the slightest. I don't like that laws primarily favor women, either. For instance, my sister recently told me that if she'd carried every one of her pregnanc…

And I certainly don't agree with that aspect of the law. It shouldn't only be a woman's choice.

How do you know that? Because it's happened to me. I thought I was clear on that. Apologies. I don't think abortion should be a woman-only right. I'm not even sure how that could be read from my statement, but correct me if I'm wrong. I both sympathize and empathize. It is possible to do both.

I've had a medically-necessary abortion from a rape that resulted in pregnancy. I also consider myself a Liberal Libertarian. I am not anti-abortion. I understand that there are many situations in which a woman can decide on the procedure. What I'm against is women screaming out that they've had one as a way to feel empowered. Or women wishing they'd had one because they want to feel empowered.

I've never seen any actual understanding between pro and anti abortion advocates If I can just mention one thing here. I went to a conservative rally and a democratic rally. I will say that I felt more welcome at the conservative rally. They felt more inclusive, whereas the democratic rally was just full of yelling. What I mean by my example is that I know what it's like to have a medically-necessary abortion of a pregnancy that came from rape. Abortion is difficult on women, yes. But I sympathi…

I don't necessarily think I have an issue talking with people. For instance, I've never had anyone tell me they felt I was being disrespectful. I don't tend to assume peoples' motivations because I've had that happen to me. If someone is telling me a story about an experience they had that I never did, should I just nod at the end? I really want to make sure I'm not offending anyone when speaking.

While I agree to an extent, I do know what it's like to be called a Nazi by feminists. Because I'm pro-life. Is there anything I can say that wouldn't make a person feel devalued? I want them to understand that I sympathize even though I don't know what it's like.

Relationships are about effective communication and reciprocity. If I empathize makes him better hear the sentiments you're expressing, that's just learning how to more effectively communicate. I absolutely agree and that's what it came down to. He feels "I understand" is dismissive, so I won't use it any longer. Thanks for your input!!

Thank you! I would also agree. Having looked up the definitions this morning, that's what I gleaned. The definition for "empathize" includes the word "understand."

I can follow that. I do think the English language is taking many hits from all sides - especially when people tend to bend definitions to meet their own meaning.
/r/MensRights28/01/19 05:46 PM

And I think that's definitely the difference he's leaning toward. I notice that in my region, "understand" is synonymous with "empathize." We're wondering if it's even a regional thing.

I agree. I'm from California and he's from Minnesota, so we're wondering if it's also a regional thing. In California, I've noticed that "understand" is synonymous with "empathize." Also having just looked up both definitions, they do seem interchangeable. Thank you for your input!
