So true! I pursued an asexual woman in university for years and, as much as it doesn’t weigh on me particularly and we’re actually still friends, I can admit that I hold a bit of regret for being as thick headed and blindly optimistic as I was at the time. Reciprocation is mandatory in the grand scheme!

This came up beautifully in a recent stream between destiny and tree of life. Highly recommend you check it out if you already haven’t. As a man I’ve definitely found myself in this logical paradox and it takes some real effort to get out of that mindset. Link: https://youtu.be/UHIvBfWujH4

Yea man I think you’re generally right about those early signals. But I’m getting a lot of good signals now, explanations, and ever deepening communication so I’m thinking she’s in it for the right reasons now, even if there were other barriers leading up to this. I’ll keep all this stuff in mind if other bad signs show up, but I’m actually really happy with the genuine connection we’re building. 😁

I, too, am a man of the maths and can’t help but agree with your statement of likelihood. :\ While generalizations have there place to make informed, honest decisions in your life, we allow room for the exceptions if we have other signals to suggest contrary conclusions. I’m getting a lot of those good signals now, and I’m happy with them. I’ve been in a position where I chose someone as a second choice kind of thought process so that’s pretty shitty to accept but hey this is life. It’s not gonn…

Looking at your first chunk of your response I see I definitely didn’t write that up very clearly. I meant we just started dating officially like a month ago after talking for 6 months (she responded to my messages on OLD) where I managed to get her to budge on 2 phone calls (1 video) and 3 meet ups in person where we’d have dinner and walk around a mall, the last one being dinner at my place and a movie. All of that was driven by me after her multiple delays on my various attempts to set up tim…

Some truth to that. But I have traumas and would want someone to afford me a bit more of a chance to prove myself than that.

I was confused at this at first but I realize I didn’t really say in my first few responses but I was really trying to put myself out there for this girl in the 5-6 months we were talking before I started seeing the other girl exclusively. She would often delay my attempts to meet, even delay phone calls (I thought I might be being catfished about a month in with how often she’d push back on that or meeting). Often covid would be the excuse and just life busyness. But I really was trying to put …

Thanks! Nice to hear that from a young woman, considering I’d say a bit more than half of my female friends said she sounds like she was either leading me on or had issues that would prevent us from being able to grow in a relationship anyway. But I do think it’s going well and I’m good about taking the replies and scenarios on here with a grain of salt and watching for bad signs in a growing relationship. I still find this purple pill thread to have some really thoughtful posts and responses (s…

I strongly agree with you from a general standpoint, but there’re all sorts of reasons why a woman might not be able to let down her walls but still be into you. A common one is trauma (don’t think I need to explain much there). Another being stigma (religious, societal, or otherwise). Definitely men (and women I suppose) need to have thoughtful, strong, and personal standards when it comes to letting a partner into their life, but we shouldn’t let too much of a surface/early judgement be a game…

I left a lot of context out of there and they’ve since explained things enough for me to still see where it goes. Things aren’t always as they seem and people have all sorts of things going on in their lives that might prevent them from communicating 100% effectively or conveying their feelings well. We like to think things like “if a person can do this then they’re that” but frankly things are just a lot more complicated than that. I agree with you tho that if it boiled down as simple as it loo…

Great responses! This is my favorite thread right now. I (29m) just started dating a girl who wasn’t really sending a lot of your typical signals of being interested aside from responding to texts. This was for months. I thought she was cute so I kept in touch while still dating other girls to explore my options. We met twice and talked over the phone twice in 5 months of being in touch from a dating app. When I said I was going to be exclusive with another girl to see where things went and wish…

Yea this post is pretty spot on with some solid responses. I love this thread, very objective, thoughtful, and honest. As a heterosexual man (29m) I feel this pretty well in my friend group. Although I do value the friendships I have with women, I notice that the ones I’ve put most effort into are ones where I was sexually interested. Obvious exception being family.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
