I kinda understand his point but you're right it's not equivalent. When I started earning good money in my late 20, I would fly ppl to Puerto Rico or Iceland and stuff for dates (from NYC.) Drive them to the Hamptons and show them a great time. Meet my friend groups etc. I just wanted my special person that I was looking for to feel special. And I wanted to do those activities.
