Obviously it isn't the same. They would be shocked at the state of it today. Baelish was properly in love with Cat and you can see that most of his actions and decisions are based on getting revenge for being seen as low SMV and unable to get the love of his life because of this. He wants to prove to everyone else that even the most bastardly of bastards can get to high places. They all have their weaknesses though and his are due to be exposed.
