"I don’t want anyone thinking I hate bad boys. I don’t hate them; I’m just done with them." Oh you're just done with them? Or it didn't work out for you? "I don’t know you yet but I’m so ready to date you. Seriously, I am." Seriously! Anyone!!! Any stable guy! I'm so ready! Hello? I'm desperate here!

It's not that she does everything exactly her way. She just wants to be a part of things. I believe I should let her take the lead sometimes. My FH isn't going to make me do every little thing her way and he wouldn't even keep track of her way vs. my way. I want to be genuine and learn how to work with her as a team, not pretend to stuff my bad attitude way down, cover it up with a fake one, and play passive aggressive games. downplay what you've done and let her be the troublemaker not you. I'm…

Is this sarcasm? I feel like it's some bad sitcom storyline

...what my FH doesn't give a shit if I move the glasses from where his mom put them. I doubt he would even notice. If I played passive aggressive games like that I wouldn't even get an audience. My FH and MIL aren't chess pieces in a fucked up mind game...that only I would be playing

Being competitive is not an attractive attribute in a woman generally and also very rarely makes us happy in the long run. Seriously I need to cross stitch of this as a reminder

Thanks for the advice. I will try and pick up on the little things she does because they are important to him and I want to show his mom that I do respect and value her opinion. This is a great way to show that without being a competitive weirdo DIL.

If you really feel this way, I'm sure some of it might show. It does put him in the middle and I'm not good at hiding anything from him, he can always see through my BS. That's why I'm focusing on changing my crap attitude. I always thought I had to come up with ideas of stuff to do with her - stereotypical "girl" activities, like beauty, shopping, or cooking but she's not really interested in stuff like that. I don't have experience with a big, involved family, so I didn't realize I should just…

Thank you for the advice. I will start asking questions and her opinion. I've made an effort to spend time with her and involve her a lot in wedding planning...but I'm realizing I rarely outright ask her for her opinion or ideas. I really needed to hear that. Change your resentment to respect. Affection will follow. I will keep this is mind.

Guilty of being nuts. I'm going to focus on being a help to her, instead of my SO. That's what he wants anyway. When I read my post I realized that in this situation, helping his mom is more helpful than helping him. That solution honestly never occurred to me. I don't have a close relationship with my mom - I always offered to help her out or do things with her, but my own mother isn't touchy feely - even hates hugs haha. So having a mom that wants to be around me isn't something I'm used to. T…

We are always doing all kinds of things to help each other out, it's not about feeling needed, it's just what we do. My SO has said this before and it seems like his family is like a family I've only seen on TV, it's so foreign to me. I'm not used to it and due to personal issues, instead of help it feels more like I didn't do something up to par, they don't trust me to get it done for him, what I did wasn't good enough. I looked at what I just typed and gee I'm self-centered. You can make massi…

Stop feeling the need to have a supportive role all the time, or stop trying to match my MIL's help? I re-read my post and decided that instead of focusing on being supportive to my SO, I'll focus on supporting MIL and being a helpful DIL. -make coffee and MIL favorite baked goods for morning of the move in -set up her guest bedroom -check off the list as she gets things settled in, be her helper I think it might be a good solution because I know my SO wants to see me bond with her and wants me …

mmmmm pho. I always get my fix with takeout but I've been meaning to try making it at home. Care to share any recipe tips? :)

1: How did you get moving this week? I'm just getting back to exercising post surgery, so walked trails with SO. Walked a trail today and he got doughnuts for us. I picked only one but the nice (not so nice!) lady put an extra one in the bag for me for free. I also joined a new gym with him. 2: What was your go-to healthy food item or meal? I made pumpkin pie paleo bites with coconut milk whipped topping. I'm not paleo but they were energizing and healthy to make. They're basically mini super he…

It actually says that weighing more will fill in wrinkles and keep people from that haggard look. Only the last woman who looked younger weighed less than her twin the rest weighed more. Looking at these pictures terrifies me. Even the "younger" ones look pretty busted

I feel like I'm taking care of his needs Stop right there. His needs aren't taken care of just because YOU feel that they are. Question is how does he feel about it. Edit; just wanted to add that it may seem silly but it would be helpful to change this mindset. For example, a few of my gfs will interpret actions based on what it would mean if they were the one doing it..."he was really touchy feely the first couple dates and really affectionate, then he just disappeared. It seemed like he was in…

Thank you, this does help! Sometimes I wish I went into nursing because it's a wonderful career that also gives you good options if you want to spend time with your family. But the blood, though. Nope. I'm sorry to hear of your health issues and I hate that you feel judgement from other women. I can relate a little, because right after graduating recently I found out about health issues and I've had to put off job searching, while my bf supports us both. It sucks because you don't want to give p…

The first step for me was realizing how unpleasant I actually was. I was abrasive and cool and very devil-may-care and quite downright bitchy. And I thought these qualities made me attractive to men, after all, there were (beta) guys falling all over me. Yes this. Realizing how unpleasant I was got me thinking. I would see other women nagging, throwing tantrums, being disrespectful and I was embarrassed for both them and the guy. Then I realized that could easily be me....I did some of those thi…

You're right. I guess I haven't really grown up with a lot of good feminine role models to begin with, and I've seen a lot of negativity toward SAHM. It would be nice to have friends who didn't think things like this are a bad thing. I need to learn to not look to others for validation anyway.

Thanks for the reply! I'm with a guy who is on the same page as me, and I know that is all that matters. Sometimes I feel like I've disappointed my family...or just women in general...ha. My mom has her doctorate and maybe that contributes to some of my feelings because I want to please her. I feel like going back would be a good thing to have so if I did work later on, I would have more job options = could contribute more. It sounds like you have a lot keeping you busy and I admire you making e…

I agree, I've been trying to practice that. I'm trying to work past caring what other people think, but I'm also wondering if any SAHMs here have felt this way or not, how they dealt with it, and what they do to go above and beyond as a RP SAHM.

Have you tried 8tracks.com? It has a ton of playlists and you can make your own. You can also search playlists by mood. I've found great playlists for chores just by searching "cleaning."

I don't think it's a requirement but it's important to me. For awhile I dreaded the possibility of having kids because it felt like an end of the road thing. But it's just the beginning. It helps that my bf has always wanted kids. A future family is part of his motivation to succeed professionally. Also, at one point I was afraid I couldn't have kids bc of a cancer scare (I'm 25) that made me think about it. It's funny to realize how badly you want something once the option could be taken away.

Thank you! Ugh, this: "not wondering constantly what was going to happen next." It's a hard habit to break, since we didn't have much responsibility in the beginning at 18. I realized if we were going to be happy in marriage I would have to step back and trust him. We are lucky to be with men comfortable with their role.

Thanks for all the advice I've been reading! It's funny how people comment here assuming RP relationships are one-sided. My bf is the most caring, respectful and generous person I know. I see that women here think the same of their SO. Doing these things for him helps me contribute more to our relationship. So RP has helped me make our relationship LESS one-sided, if anything.

Thanks. Completely agree. I thought since I wasn't into the club scene or drinking much that it wouldn't get to me. It was fun at first to watch how ridiculous people act at these places, but it's easy to get pulled in. The bar scene is really good at making young people think they are missing out/missed out by not partying every weekend. But it's actually a joke.

I usually brush olive oil or butter over it and stick half a lemon up it. I have Nigella Lawson's "How To Eat" book and it has some of the best kitchen advice ever, especially for basics. I read that you can cook the chicken breast-side down for the first hour so all the fats/juices trickle down into the white meat. It's not as pretty as right side up, but it will be tender. Spices: Try Za'atar spice. Soo good. It goes great with savory and light dishes. It doesn't get easier than this -http://w…

Thanks!!! I'm happy to be here! For some reason, people seem to really look down on women who make a point to cater to their BF, SO, and maybe that's why I never tried really making a habit of it. All the advice seemed so obvious once I made it a priority!
