No, I think I got your point, thanks. And yes, for the record I agree that giving women lighter sentences is insulting and misguided. But I've explained again and again why helping encarcerated men isn't our first priority. Yes, it is an equality issue, which is why I support reform in that regard. But is it my focus? Gay rights activists want equality, but they don't spend their time fighting for straight people's rights, or any other group's for that matter. I would be fine with this if femini…

There seems to be some miscommunication here. So rapists should not be punished and put to jail? Sorry? I'm not sure where you got this idea. Do you think because I said there's issues with the justice system that I must think it should be abolished all together? Yes, I absolutely believe that rapists should be put in jail. And, to address another of your questions, that sentences for men and women should be proportionate. Is it only okay if a man is subjected to a broken system? Sorry, you've l…

Why not protest and advocate for harsher sentences to female criminals since giving them lighter sentences than male counterparts encourages the idea that women have less agency and are less responsible for their actions? Yes, what we need is MORE people in prison for LONGER. Why would we fight to subject more people to a broken system? That makes no sense. And btw, a lot of feminists do have a problem with the prison system, especially the overrepresention of minorities, and are members of huma…

Sorry I haven't answered sooner. I wanted to wait until I had time to write a detailed response. So your question's a good one - what if you've spent a number of years doing everything you can to improve the situation (eg working with your wife to remove or reduce any barriers that might be inhibiting her, such as stress, medicinal side effects or lack of physical attraction; gone to a marriage councillor; made sure you have time for each other; suggested opening the marriage; etc) and things st…

I was addressing OP directly, and referring to his circumstances - not those of the two authors. OP has not given us many specifics of his own situation, aside from his marriage being sexless and his wife thinking that's normal. We do not know if he's suggested therapy to his wife or not, and I think for the sake of the love they presumably bare (or bared) for each other, that route should be explored before they contemplate divorce.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/05/15 01:14 PM
5

For the record I’m BP and a feminist, but obviously I can’t speak for anyone but myself. OP, I’m very sorry you find yourself in these circumstances. For many people – I'd say probably most people – sex is an integral part of a marriage. Your wife’s disinterest in sex is not normal and not something that should just be expected in an adult long-term relationship. Unfortunately it can and does happen to some people, of both genders, but that does not mean that it’s not a problem. Reading the “wif…

I don't think that's an honest counter argument considering Shitty things can happen to anyone at anytime. I think there might be a bit of a miscommunication here as that's the exact point I was making. In this particular hypothetical situation these two people aren't in the same circumstances, and because of those different circumstances (not their particular genders), one would be hit much harder by the loss of their partner than the other. Your initial argument was that the loss of a spouse i…

I don't see how tragedy, an unexpected death, or illness or job loss is relevant considering those are genderless obstacles. Yes, these obstacles can be set in front of either gender, but in this hypothetical the man is educated, mature, and established in a successful career, whereas the woman is uneducated, still maturing, and dependent on her husband for financial support. Obviously the loss of one's spouse to death or divorce is going to have very different consequences for each of these peo…

To be honest I read it almost a decade ago, but I do remember that it fits the bill of lonely young male outcast. Now that I think about though, I think the protagonist was gay. So maybe that makes it less relevant for you. But then again I felt that I could relate to the main character, and I'm a heterosexual woman (for whatever what that's worth).

This is tangential to your question, OP, but if you'd like to read something where this kind of character is the protagonist, "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" and "Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You" come to mind.

/r/feminism and /r/askfeminists are both run by the same notoriously ban trigger-happy mod. Well it is a debate sub ;). But seriously, this pissed me off: "oh go fight for equality, ladies, but don't presume to join us where you've heretofore been barred. The world would be better if you gals just knew your place and stayed there."
/r/PurplePillDebate26/02/15 03:33 PM
3

Then what, prey tell, does this mean: The world would be a better place now if women and feminists had decided that the way to equality wasn't to join men and be more like men, but rather to be themselves and enjoy it... How important it is is in my first sentence - the world would be a better place. How much more important can I say it is? Becoming like men has made the world worse! I agree with you that belittling and undervaluing stay-at-home parents is wrong, but I have a hard time believing that the world would be a better place if women never won the freedom to choose how they spend their lives. There are many happy accountants out there and accounting is a worthwhile and needed profession, but that doesn't mean the world would be grand if half the population were made to be accountants.

A central tenant of feminism is the breaking down of traditional gender roles, as they pigeonhole people into lives they might not have otherwise chosen, and bring negative consequences (at the hands of both men and women) onto those who choose to step outside them. This is a perfect example of what feminists mean when they say that traditional gender roles hurt men as well, and exactly what feminism is working to change (and have changed, to a large extent - why do you suppose there are more SA…

Well fucking DUH What, are you 12? I'm sorry, but you clearly still don't understand section 2, as it in no way contradicts 15(1) or 28. And it is not MY interpretation, it's what's stated. I'm having trouble understanding if you're just being deliberately obtuse, as you have yet to state what you actually think it's saying. In fact, I'm really having trouble understanding much of what you've said. "What isn't normal is for some other part of a law way down the page to contradict some other part…

Are you seriously trying to say that one part of it totally contradicts another part? No, I'm saying the exact opposite: that it's all cohesive. You're the one that said "Canadian law says sex discrimination against men is OK", which is contradictory to "Every individual is equal under the law" and "the rights and freedoms referred to in it are guaranteed equally to male and female persons." Yeah the laissez-faire right wing is an oxymoron with conservatives thrown in there. No. The right-wing/conservatives support having a "small government." That means little government intervention in the economy (intervention being economic regulation, trade restrictions, high rates of taxation, etc) and the social sphere (eg a limited social safety net, few limitations on personal freedom, etc). "Laissez-faire" and "small government" essentially mean the same thing - that the government should …

TRP is a social theory with a fairly coherent set of philosophical tenants. The writing style is irrelevant. Some people accept this philosophy as true, others disagree with it. So the deal with this sub has been set up as a place for these two groups to debate. As you've posted here, I'd assumed you were also here to debate. If that wasn't your intention and you strayed in here unaware, fair enough, just let us know. If you are here to debate, then I return to my question: could you please clar…

I'm not mad, I'm perplexed. You've written a post attempting to clear some things up, but it's pretty ambiguous as to what those things are supposed to be exactly. As you opened the discussion, I assumed you were taking questions. So again, could you please clarify what your point is exactly?

I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to clear up. Men lack male role models because Feminism - that's already been said a hundred different ways by TRP. Most women work outside the home today. If they're both working, yet the man only "on occasion helps his first mate in the house when needs be" (ie "when times get rough"), it sounds to me that she is doing a much larger percentage of the work that goes into living than he is. Sure, he'll do the "manly stuff" around the house - take the garbage out and cut the grass once a week, fix a loose door handle, change a light bulb and check the engine oil once or twice a month. Meanwhile everyday (or ev…

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand your logic. If a person is in a committed monogamous relationship and sleeps with someone else, that's cheating, and they should be condemned for it. If a person isn't in a monogamous relationship and sleeps around, they may be called a slut, but they aren't cheating. So one does not necessarily mean the other - your statement is a false syllogism. And those links?
/r/PurplePillDebate20/11/14 04:01 AM

You'll have to point me to one. I visit two of those subs occasionally, and I can't recall any instances of anyone claiming that women have free reign to cheat. But you've obviously seen this view expressed frequently there, as you claim they all hold it, so perhaps you could help the rest of us out by linking to a few examples.

Cat calling is highly ineffective, and there's lots of free more alternatives. It doesn't take much money to be introduced to friends of friends, or make small talk with someone, rather than yelling shit at random women who are just trying to go about their day. Also, a lot of cat calling has nothing to do with attempting to engage the target. In my experience it oftendone by guys in cars as they drive by.
/r/PurplePillDebate31/10/14 10:01 PM
2

I'm not sure I agree. For one, cat calling doesn't just occur in economically depressed areas. I've been cat called in wealthier neighbourhoods (in fact, the last time it happened to me was last week, in a notoriously yuppy neighbourhood on a street full of boutique stores), and I've been cat called on university campuses (but you're right that it's certainly worse in some areas over others). Secondly, social change often occurs by taking root in one area or segment of society, and then permiati…

If spending time with other people makes you happy (it's hard to tell from your responses thus far if it is), then I think you need to work on your social skills. A good psychologist can give you a lot of help in that regard, but of course you need to be willing to try.

Oh look, a shitty woman on the internet. Clearly all women are shitty and condone this kind kind of behaviour. For a sub whose members pride themselves on their "scientific approach," a lot of you make inferences that are completely out to lunch.

So basically, because everyone has the potential to fuck with the other person, you'd better fuck them over quick before they have the chance to fuck you over. I'm not exaggerating - this is literally what you're saying. And despite what all your buddies tell you, it is not an approach that's going to get you a healthy, happy, long-lasting and fulfilling relationship. It's big of you to admit that your argument regarding weight was flawed. I mean that sincerely. As for you main point, I see what you're saying, and to an extent I agree. From another post I made in this thread: The TRP is about sexual strategy - attracting and keeping women so you can get your rocks off. That all makes sense; most people want a partner or partners to have lots of sex with, so you behave in a way that is intended to fulfill those goals. I get all that (when I was single, I did a…

Are you employing the tactics we're discussing? In order to keep your wife around, do you abuse her? Do you use coercion and threats, like threatening to hurt her, or that you'll commit suicide? Do you isolate her from her friends? Do you make light of the abuse, or tell her that it's her fault? Because this the behaviour the blogger is putting forth as an effective way to maintain a relationship, and is what we are discussing. TRPers in the thread are saying that what matters is whether it is e…

Your generalizations are ridiculous. Take weight - people's weight can fluctuate for a whole bunch of different reasons, in both satisfying and unhappy relationships. And both men and women try to look their best when seeking someone new (as all of TRP's threads about improving one's appearance are evidence of). Suggesting that that is somehow devious, and that only women do it, is just untrue.

Work to do what? What would be the goal of these tactics? Even when you leave morality out of the discussion, why the hell would you do this? The difference is the prevalence, and that these incidents happened everywhere, including in affluent areas and on university campuses. It seeps into your psyche way more than if you're just worried when in a bad part of town. And no, I don't treat all men on the assumption that they're going to rape me, but I do keep my guard up in situations where this kind of harassment and abuse is more likely occur. I'm often puzzled by the idea self-improvement = putting someone else down on TRP. It's like those childhood bullies, who have to put down others in order to feel better about themselves. From what I can see, while there's some focus on actual self improvement, the bulk of TRP material is aimed at belittling other people (primarily women and "betas"). This way they can develop the typical TRP superiority complex, without ever having to work on themselves personally.

You seem to have missed EvilFuckingSociopath's point entirely. Your thinking is one dimensional in that in that in both your posts, you only focus on what ways women have value to you personally. All of the things you've stated could be said by a woman who generally prefers the company of other women to that of men, but just because she can't relate to men doesn't mean that men are of little value. A person's worth extends way beyond any one person's opinion of them.

I realize that my experiences are not rape. My point is that the fear of rape is legitimate, as it's predicated on experiences throughout my life where my rights of autonomy over my body, and respect of me as a person, were violated for the sexual gratification of men. Perhaps I misunderstood your previous post - you were responding to my having taken issue with the other commenter for dismissing fear over rape as hysteria, so I interoperated your points that feminists seek to maximize women's s…

Rape fear is exploited by feminists - of course it is. And most men will never commit rape, but the number of women who are raped and assaulted is way to high. The fear is legitimate, and calling it "hysteria" is incredibly narrow-minded and disrespectful. The fear is legitimate, and is built upon a lifetime of experiences, not just somebody with an agenda telling ghost stories. I started being cat-called on the street, by grown men, at age 12. You were talking about how gender relations have come to be in their present state. And you seem to be the one who isn't aware of women's experiences. You're the one who said sexism doesn't exist, and that the fear of rape and assault is hysteria (in the same breath as 'try to put your self in other people's shoes,' I might add). I thought, this being a debate forum, we could have a constructive conversation, but your last comment has disabused me of that assumption. Silly me.

I'm trying to get you to understand the experiences of others. That's specifically why I felt the need to comment - because your comment was so one-sided. But apparently I shouldn't have bothered, as you're so self-centred that, because you personally haven't been raped or assaulted, women's anxiety regarding it must just be hysteria. If it makes a difference, I've been assaulted. And yes, the possibility of it happening again, and all the things I need to do in order to protect myself from it, …

You've listed a number of things you point to as why "things [have gotten] this way between the sexes," and why men feel they need game. You've listed "moral panic" over rape and harassment - I assume (and please correct me if my assumption's incorrect) you're saying that this "moral panic" has led women to be wary and less trusting of men, making it harder for guys to pick up. If this is your reasoning, the actual occurrence of sexual assault and harassment is a rather glaring omission.

Well that's not very contrarian of you! But thanks for taking the time to answer (even if it's a non-answer). Personally, I don't think it's true. I think things like looks, ambition, social standing and wealth do influence partner selection to an extent in both genders, but the importance placed on these traits varies significantly amongst individuals. Anecdotally, none of these have factored prominently in my relationship, and six years on we still adore each other. But hey, I'm 28, so maybe i…

My relationship works the same way. Six years in, and while we've had the odd disagreement, I can honestly say we've never had a fight. While it may work for some, I don't think I could be with someone who doesn't respect me as an equal, or whom I don't respect as an equal. He is my partner. We negotiate and compromise, but ultimately both our needs and desires are met.

This is actually a pretty recent phenomenon. It's only been in the last 10 years that it has become acceptable to comment on female anatomy in popular media/entertainment. Prior to that, it was 100% dick/ass jokes. Is it? I remember that being a big thing to say about girls when I was in middle school, and that was more than ten years ago. That's a good question. Whether children were subjected to it I don't know. It wouldn't surprise me if it were only seen as "necessary" after a woman had begun to menstruate or was sexually active. Regardless, the idea that genitals are unclean has not been limited to men. That being said, most people (though not all, as the plethora of products still available testify to) now recognize that douching is harmful as it can throw off the vagina's PH balance which can actually cause infection. The c…

Douching was considered necessary for female genital hygiene until recently. Good article otherwise, though.

No kidding. I subscribed to the sub a few days ago. I'm a feminist, but am admittedly undereducated regarding male-specific gender issues, and I want to make an effort (in good faith) to learn more. I was rather alarmed, to say the least, to see this on the front page. Glad I watched the video before noping the fuck out.

I'm going to get down voted for this, but I think it needs to be said: What's very important to realize in this area is that TRP's goals and views are directly contradictory to ours. Kinda like how the crazy tumbler feminists who boycott MRM activity directly contradict the central tenant of feminism - that men and women should be treated equally? I bring this up as the frustration this sub (and the MRM in general) is experiencing - being discredited by assumptions that the most radical viewpoin…

Men's Rights is beginning to suffer from the same issue Feminism is facing: the moderate majority is being mistaken for, and discredited by, a radical minority.

FYI: American Woman was written and recorded by the Canadian band The Guess Who. While Lenny Kravitz did do a cover in the 90s, Jimi Hendrix (or "Jimmy" Hendrix, for that matter) did not. The "Hendrix" song you linked to is actually The Guess Who. You've also misinterpreted the lyrics. It's a Canadian group singing about their dislike for America, especially the Vietnam draft: "I don't need your war machines/I don't need your ghetto scenes."

I don't know if I've been a "plate," but it's entirely possible. I've had a couple of very casual relationships (if you can even call them that), where it was solely about sex and having our physical needs met. I didn't ask these guys whether they were sleeping with anyone else, as frankly, I didn't care. I've been in a committed monogamous relationship for the last 6 years. As we're going to be apart for much of the next year we've discussed opening up the relationship, but at this point he doe…

The Department of Defence has upheld the policy of barring women from selective service because women were barred from the front line. The front line issue had to be tackled before the selective service issue could be touched. So yes, women have been asking for those responsibilities, and may soon get them: "Department of Defense reviewed the issue in 1994, noting that because women are excluded by policy from front line combat positions, excluding them from the draft process remains justifiable…

As others have pointed out, that's incorrect. Women have been fighting via the American Civil Liberties Union to end the ban on women fighting on the front line since the 1970s, specifically in the name of equality: "Men do not have a monopoly on patriotism, physical ability, desire for adventure, or willingness to risk their lives. Until both the responsibilities and the rights of citizenship are shared on a gender-neutral basis, women will continue to be considered less than full-fledged citiz…

So I don't like to judge on the number. But I found that the minute I hear it, I become uncontrollably turned off. It's a visceral response I cannot control. I literally have no say in the matter. Despite my forward-thinking attitude, it bothers me to no end. Do you know what it is that you find unattractive about a high partner count? Do you make certain inferences about her? I'm not looking to debate the logic or morality of how you feel, I'd just like to better understand it as it's not an un…

This was also my experience in poli sci. Edit: Either that, or there wasn't a difference between the genders regarding who was lazy and who worked hardest.

Interesting. I studied political science as well. The gender split in most of my classes was fairly even. Typically there'd be two or three students, more often male, who'd dominate the discussion. Many had very insightful things to contribute, some merely pointed out the obvious, and some made you cringe inwardly every time they opened their mouths. The rest of the students contributed more sporadically. A lot of them were clearly very intelligent and insightful. Some were complete morons. Some…

Since neither of you seem to be willing to give the context, here it is. His argument is utterly ridiculous. No one ever knows the whole story at a trail. The same standard of evidence is used in rape cases as is in any other kind of trial: in order to convict, the prosecution is required to provide evidence that shows that the defendant is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. If that standard is met (which, in Elam's hypothetical trial, it is) then for justice to be served the verdict must be guil…

If they're sluts they're not worth taking seriously anyway. Also TRP is not manipulation, if anything it's manipulation Judo. Bitches love being treated like bitches. Don't like it? Stop being a slut. This sentence jumped out at me as well. Maybe I haven't read enough redpill to understand this. Why do sluts deserve to be treated like bitches? I understand that you'd prefer not to be in a relationship with them, but I don't understand why you wouldn't just not have anything to do with them. If t…
