You are making a wrongful assumption she only earns in clothing. She still has an interest in cutting off the husband! If she has stocks in sectors that are doing well-- he gains as well. Zoom, Proctor & Gamble (Clorox is booming) if she owns any medical stocks- she is earning millions more probably. it's boilerplate language for a divorce lawyer to ask for all relief upfront (health insurance, alimony, attorney fees), even if I have the monied spouse with more money. If something tragic happens during the divorce (I.e. she only has stocks and they are worth $0- or if someone becomes crippled or gets cancer and can't work) I have the request in and the client is protected.
